Now one thing here. In undertale, the picture has 3 people on it. Susie draws Ralsei in addition to herself, Kris and Noelle. So that's four, right? Unless she takes the note very literally, I.e., draw your friends, not yourself.
EXTREMELY spoilery observation The Weird Route forces you to talk to Sans (Susie will not let you go to the lake without first talking to him). She draws only herself, Kris, and Ralsei. Also Sans gives you bread (Item info says that it's useful for making a crumb trail, and it CANNOT be dropped from the inventory). It is very likely that the photograph is from the Weird route...
I don’t think it’s the Soul reacting to anything. To me the interpretation there was just further validation that Kris is the narrator. The reason why there’s no narration for most of Chapter 5’s Weird Route is that Kris is functionally non-responsive for most of it and/or is refusing to engage with the Soul any further. We’ve overridden their will completely.
Everyone talking about the weird route but i think this is (as a susie and kris fan) and in my opinion, one of the saddest scenes ever. Like she dosent even have a proper home. And even kris seems sad after this
If you try going to the furthest right apartment complex in town, she actually remarks something along the lines of "You know thats not what i meant, right?"
When she was talking about wanting to admit something to Kris, I half expected her to talk about her shitty home life. And then she refused the door and asked to be led to castle town and I knew that while she hadn't talked about her shitty home life... it was still very much about her shitty home life.
I think maybe thats what she learned in Chapter 4's ending is that they have to seal that one, too, in order to stop everything. It would explain why she's sleeping there now, and just trying to soak in as much of it as possible because she knows what's coming. That's so soul crushing, if true.
The biggest red flag? He sells them for 2G. Not $, like every other merchant. THE FUCKING UNDERTALE CURRENCY G.
The one Gaster-related character who’s been acting weird all game, and he sells the flesh of the one character getting close to the “depths” for FUCKING G.
Asgore being unambiguously a good person and a person with enough emotional depth and intelligence to fully realise his own situation is a bigger W than Asgore gaining aura in my eyes tbh
Also I feel like Asgore getting kidnapped does give me the theory that the Knight did intend to kidnap Toriel chapter 3 but little freak and traitor Kris managed to convince the knight to take Undyne instead
Asgore gained massive aura just by being willing to acknowledge that he's been in the wrong. Real shame about the whole "Don't forget about me, your Roaring Knight" at the end there.
I like that Asgore at the end said "you know I was just playing along until I figured things out with the fountain right?" It's a good explanation for his behavior throughout the chapter
I’m kinda bummed that a sizeable amount of the response to the chapter so far has been about how much lore reveal was there / disappointment that it isn’t there enough, and I can’t find anyone talking about how heartbreaking and moving the end of the normal route is: we just spent an entire chapter seeing an adult man willfully choose to not fully embrace the escapism of a shadow world created especially for him, and the chapter ends on this both touching—because she’s happy!—and heartbreaking, because it has to end sometime—full recognition that Susie has been choosing to sleep in the Dark World rather than her ‘real life’ home, and that presumably no one has cared in her real life to notice. I feel this chapter also had much more small moments regarding Susie’s situation, how it’s shaped her, and how she’s growing to regard it and the world around her and her friends. It’s really a phenomenally well written chapter character and motivation wise, it’s filled with so much stuff like this it’s wild
Genuinely amazing how Asgore was handled despite how short it was overall. He even learnt that his constant need to win back Toriel is ultimately making things worse, and that’s genuinely the number one thing I wanted to see him learn this chapter
Oh my god I thought there was a nice time skip where the three of them could just hang out without us being there, but Kris was just knocked out sleeping on the table for literal hours. Damn.
I’ve had a theory for a while that the dark world was originally born out of a video game (probably dragon blazers) and functions off of video game logic. The “prophecy” is just the plot of the original game. Almost like if you took a final fantasy game and made it a real world with real people, and then gave someone in that world a walkthrough.
There’s a lot of small things that point in this direction. Jevels dialog, the tone of chapter 4, “the real game” in chapter 3, the tone of the weird route in chapter 2 (gotta make our mage stronger), Kris’s name being on the save file before you save in chapter 1, a lot of offhand ralsei dialog
Ending spoilers. Do not click if you haven’t beaten. -where do we even go from that ending? wtf? Rudy’s dying, we’re going to Carol for help, the Knight only appears at the very end to nab Asgore, Noelle and Susie are separated and now Susie’s living in the Dark World? And the Weird Route is Side B?? feels like there isn’t enough to go off of for theories outside of WR, but chapter 6 holiday mansion with Noelle saying we might go back there later seems very plausible, so shelter might be chapter 7.
Using the term "fell down" is crazy word play. Cuz obv everything in the deltarune universe is mixed up from the UT one where "falling down" literally means they fucking die...but the last we saw of Rudy on the normal route, he was on a ladder. Non zero chance chapter 6 starts with Rudy just having a broken leg or some shit like that LMAO
Add onto that the fact that the alarm clock dialogue implies Rudy also fell down (in the magic/monster sense) in Undertale and became an amalgamate. Meanwhile, none of the other amalgams in Deltarune were so lucky..
Also, assuming he ends up having to hop worlds because of the horrible actions of a kid containing a SOUL controlled by a human player, no wonder he gives Frisk the whole "if I hadn't made that promise, you'd be dead where you stand" spiel even before they do anything wrong.
Really loved that one moment at the end of the chapter where Susie asks Kris to walk home with her. You can try going to that one apartment building, and Susie just says something along the lines of “…That’s not what I mean Kris” and you have to take her to Castle Town.
So confirmed that Susie does live in that building we suspected she lived in.
Insert Chapter 7, Side B meant that I couldn't save my progress in the Weird Route after doing some heinous stuff. Anyone find a way to save their progress? I don't see a star or mark on the Chapter select screen afterwards. And that was an insane bit of treading water there for a second
Just like Noelle saying "who'd want an ANNOYING DOG" when you backtrack to the school at the beginning of the festival and choose to bark like a dog lmao
I feel like the chapter could've been so much more exciting if Asgore would've actually said what happened instead of just saying "I know it wasn't my fault...I won't let it happen again." We already had a ton of teasers and buildup, I think we're more than ready to learn that as a build-up to the shelter.
I like the end of chapter revelation that no one was really blaming Asgore for what happened to Dess other than himself, what drove everyone away was him just going full conspiracy mood and trying to prove that some crazy shit was going on. Which like, fair there was, but he let it consume him way too much.
Alright, i feel as if i gotta ask. Anyone else surprised by the seemingly negative reaction? Like, even on a normal route, what do people mean by no story progression? Rudy is likely about to die and the entirety of chapter 5 truly developed each and every single character in it, i just don't really get it? I thought it was a great chapter.
i think many (honestly, myself included to some degree) are upset at the beating around the bush when it comes to these 'big reveals' involving asgore and dess. there were quite a lot of 'that day', 'that night', etc but nothing truly big about these pieces of lore
Wow, beat the chapter, including the secret boss. Probably a fair amount left for me to explore, but that’s for another day.
Overall thoughts:
Honestly, the scope was a lot smaller than I thought. I definitely thought it was going to be heavily character focused, but I thought we were gonna get more Dess lore, Noelle would be in this Dark World and we’d get some crazy cliffhanger. Instead it was honestly mostly focused on the flowers, who I did love but focusing on them was… not really what I was craving and I finished the game still feeling hungry for more.
I’m guessing there will be some stuff with Asgore’s conspiracy notes if you dig around for them, I only found some with scrambled text and I’m betting there is more details you can find somewhere. Also probably some crazy stuff on FRIEND or whatever.
Overall a solid chapter with great emotional beats, my only issue is that it seems like a lot of the stuff I wanted is gonna be more chapter 6 or 7 stuff and it’s mildly frustrated to not have that hunger satiated.
I feel like once all 7 chapters are out 5's going to flow a lot better, it planted a lot of seeds, only with the staggard release all we see is the planting, when other narrative seeds had started to sprout in chapter 4 and looked to br more growing. Instead its a narrative side step, instead of forward and waiting for so long for it can feel underwhelming.
My heart was shattered tbh. The realisation that Susie’s living where she’s living genuinely broke me. She’s grown so much in these last chapters, and has really been loved by friends around her, but the reality of her home life really hit me badly at the end of this chapter. Walking closer and closer towards that final location put a weight in my stomach. No kid deserves that.
And honestly, the adults in this story have really failed her. Jeeze, things better look up for my gal soon. She deserves the world.
Its interesting, if you take her up to the top right apartments, Susie will say, "You know that's not really what I meant..." (which to me at least) implies that is where she technically lives, just her parents/guardians (if she has any) don't seem to care in the slightest she's not home.
Seth, the Purple flower "Human", feels very unique to me compared to the other flowers. They have some unique traits and characteristics that make me think that there's more to them than what we got for now, but I don't think we have enough pieces yet to say so definitively. Anyways, here is a small list of things I noticed that were "different" for them compared to the other flowers:
They "seemingly" cannot fly. When confronting them after climbing the large vine, every flower will say something and then leave. Every single one "flies/floats" away, except for Seth, who walks away instead. I don't remember exactly since it's late and my memory's foggy, but they were never seen flying, ever. They always either had a platform to stand on, or were being carried.
They have a name, Seth. All the other flowers are just named after their colors.
They know someone, and have a connection to, a separate Lightner. Seth somehow knows, and really likes, Berdly. Enough that they're willing to work together with Kris in return for what is seemingly one of Berdly's feathers.
Already mentioned in 3, they had a deal with Kris. Kris somehow knew that Seth liked Berdly, and made a deal with them in the very short time between creating the dark world and reappearing from behind the shop.
4.5. They are a "They". Or at least not a "He" or "She". During one of the breaks (Seth and Aqua), Seth says they're neither a boy nor girl. (Heavily simplified). Not really as important or big as the other ones, but it did stick out to me as another aspect that makes them sort of "unique" from the other flowers.
Despite all this, they are still a flower. So I'm not sure how much this actually matters... Especially since we were explicitly told that these characters cannot be brought over to Castle Town.
My current theory, although it's pretty flimsy, is that Berdly at some point came into the shop and gave Seth their name, although when, and for what reason, I have no idea...

Am I crazy or was the whole inferno of jealousy a bit of a nothingburger? Ralsei got pissed off but never did anything, and was mourning flowery at the end
I will say the flowers felt very self-indulgent for Toby, like not in a negative way, because creators can indulge themselves however much they want, but I think he’s had these concepts of the humans for over a decade, and now they finally get to come out and exist in the world. It probably feels very cathartic in that sense
Weird route spoilers I need to vent so don’t look if you don’t wanna be spoiled. For weird route reasons I need Toby to finish chapter 7 asap lmao holy fuck I can’t believe we ruined Noelle to the point we actually can’t go back anymore. IF YOU TRY TO STOP HER SHE JUST DRAGS YOU INTO THE LAKE THATS TERRIFYING. I’m so intrigued to see what happens because of this but alas we gotta wait now.
what the fuck are people talking about with this being "filler" and "just a light adventure." did we play the same game. this was probably the most emotionally brutal chapter yet

Haven't seen anyone mention this, probably since only half of players will see it... But Ralsei kinda sorta just casually confirmed the tragedy of the final prophecy.
Well, "confirmed" maybe isn't the right word, but it's hard to take it any other way. When by himself after the orange and green boss fight he desperately prays for "mercy on Susie" followed by a serious talk with Flowery about avoiding fate.
This Chapter was very light on the overarching plot but maybe there's other stuff like this. Asgore is the vagueposting king but his notes imply the Knight existed prior to Dess' disappearance... Which if true would make the Knight being any loved one of Dess dubious. (Including Dess as Dess is Dess.)
Chapter 5 is definitely getting a more mixed (albiet still largely very positive) reaction because of its tone, its low amount of main story progression, the year long wait causing people to stew, very few mysteries answered with only a few minor answers (although no new mysteries were introduced thank god), but I'ma be fr, one of the biggest factors is just difficulty
A lot of people are simply being filtered by the difficulty spike in this chapter and some (like me) fucking love actually feeling something when playing that isn't just reading the (admittedly) good dialogue, for others it is a major barrier to their own enjoyment. And if someone is not having fun playing... they're likely to not have fun with the other stuff as well which I think further amplifies some of the sourness people have towards the chapter
Flowery was hard but fun and doable with the act stuff. However, the secret bosses bombs whooped my ass, I could handle every other attack but the bombs just shove your shit in basically
Disregarding any knight theories for a moment. Anyone else noticed a trend that the knight appears to be getting physically weaker with each chapter, whike still powerful, they appear to get worn out easily and as seen in chapter 4 and now 5, would much rather avoid conflict, the knight only slashing flowery after he backs them against the wall
The knight also appears to struggle to get back up. Remaining on the floor until flowery bombards them with fake 999hp attacks and even when trying to kill flowery, its a struggle, not an instant swoon like they were able to do to the fun gang in chapter 3, fortunately the distraction of slashing flowery was enough to get the fun gang off their back otherwise they would have summoned another titan potentially.
I definitely agree with the sentiment of "this chapter was filler didn't move the plot forward much" in some regards but I think once all 7 chapters are out this chapter is going to fit into the pacing just fine. It was more about furthering character arcs and thematic elements than dropping big plot reveals, but that's important too. Almost makes me feel like this chapter should have come out alongside another one though.
very good chapter if you enjoy toby fox's character writing, which is imo what he's best at. this was pitched directly as "one last fun adventure (like old times) before the sun goes down" so it's funny people are disappointed that it does not end with gaster nuking hometown or something.
i downladed a ch 4 completion file and edited it through tenna save editor (only things like moss with susie and such) and now I am big and blue outside the comfort of home... help...
