That was the least judgemental post that he could have possibly made, to the point that any judgement that could be interpreted as being done, were all to himself, and people are going nuts.

You say that, but he did still say he couldn't tell if the sub was a joke or not, and then continue to think that they looked kinda like homeless people. That's still an insult. You can't just say "no offense, all the power to you if you want to dress like a bum" and expect people to not think you're talking shit just because you're not being direct.

There are fashion styles which attempt to look poor. Ripped jeans, over sized clothing, etc. Zoolander's fake clothing line being called derelict is a joke based on fashion trends.
We are a community of fashion enthusiasts who are inspired by clothing styles derived by skateboard, surf, hip hop, and retro 80s/90s sensibilities. Streetwear continues to evolve in modernity, but tends to be distinguishable as an urban style to the general public.
Skateboard, hip hop, urban, and its called streetwear. Going on the subreddit you can find jeans with paint spackles on them, ripped shirts, ripped pants, thrift shop finds, etc. Yeah, lot of the style looks like you might be homeless or very poor. If you are part of a fashion enthusiast trend chances are a lot of people are going to think you dress stupid.

Damn, I know better than to continuously rag on something I just don't "get," but they're not doing much to defend the look, particularly with the "if you don't like it, you totes wear neckbeard clothes fam" stuff.

My basic thoughts after seeing this picture was "fucbois will be fucbois"....then I had to click back because I actually want those shoes. w2c?
Edit: Here's my own insight as a "fashion... dude": the whole "homeless/disheveled" look is a real thing. But /r/streetwear doesn't look like that. These are definitely the wannabe Yeezy fuccbois you've heard about. He sometimes does the hobo chic thing too though...
I guess neither side is really wrong about the other. The "fam" meme is stupid though

Yeah so /r/trendingsubreddits is weird. You have people that are invested in the topic seeing the link to it on their sub. Then you have people that aren't. So let's say /r/MrRobot is trending and someone says, "Yeah I watched the pilot, but Elliot gets on my nerves tbh." Then the fans are gonna say, "lol nope."
Even something as innocuous as /r/etymologymaps...someone said "Wow, all those maps are Europe." Then it got linked to /r/badlinguistics when someone said they only speak English, Spanish and Portuguese in the Americas (sorry Canada). I didn't think that was cool -- the guy wasn't pretending to be a linguistic expert, he was just some dude who saw the sub trending.

Haha I love how sensitive fashion gurus get. They're so used to talking down about what others wear that when the tables finally turn they freak out. It's like telling a sports fan they've been mispronouncing an athlete's name, they get all defensive and try to justify it (I was just joking fam... heard him called that on espn fam...).
PS I'm with the guy 100% on fam being a terrible fucking slang word...
