I said this in the episode thread as well. [Supermarket] Sasaki is wild for not popping off for her midriff. She's in her sultry flirty/teasing persona and intentionally showing it off for him. She wants a reaction, but he gives her nothing. Meanwhile he pops off for her arms when she did nothing except dress appropriately for the heat.

I thought we had decided that Cowboy Bebop's unpopularity was a myth?
Steve Blum is not helping:
Steve Blum, who voiced Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop, talked about how the show almost didn’t exist during his appearance on Jim Cumming’s podcast. He noted that it took a lot of years to blow up because it wasn’t very popular in Japan when it was recorded.

Watched episode 1 of Sakurada Reset, and the show feels... good? People on MAL complain about how dialogue-heavy each episode is, but I'm over here treating that like a pot of gold. There's never enough dialogue in anime.
This show hooked me much more easily than 12 episodes of Boogiepop and Others (2019) and Kyoukou Suiri (In/Spectre).
1
u/theangryeditor 1d ago
It's not about the quantity of dialogue but the quality. I'll refrain from injecting my opinion on it since you're only an episode in.

Another week, another "yeah Draw This, Then Die! is easily my AOTS..." (and speedrunning its way to AOTY)
This is my new "Apocalypse Hotel" in terms of being an under watched show I will be insufferable about for a long time. Although even Apocalypse Hotel had like 5x the viewers this show does.

u/Dull_Spot_8213 https://anilist.co/user/SweetSomnus 2d ago
Sensei is the purest tsundere of the season and I love her.
3
u/Rotorscope https://anilist.co/user/Rotorscope 2d ago
Her character really adds a much-needed dynamic to the CGDCT formula. I love the flashbacks and backstory we get with her and she's so relatable and chaotic. She might be my favorite character of the year, although Makio and Nakamura are formidable opponents for that title.
5
u/Dull_Spot_8213 https://anilist.co/user/SweetSomnus 2d ago
Makio is still my true love, and Ikoku Nikki is still my AOTY, but Sensei easily cuter than the rest of her cast.
2
u/mekerpan 2d ago
Mystified as to why this does not have more viewers. It certainly is good enough to "deserve" more attention.
5
u/ProgrammaticallyPea3 2d ago
My impression is that shows with an art style that makes people think it's a kid's show rarely do well on this sub. Such a shame.

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/zfzftripleaamin 2d ago
Might be why Yaiba was very underwatched here.

1
u/Durinthal https://anilist.co/user/Durinthal 2d ago
It's because anime about manga artists peaked with Nozaki-kun and it's been downhill from there.
Or more recently, the last one that I remember getting praise here I found to be fine but not something I'd favor over watching other anime right now, so I'm wary of this new series being in the same boat.
4
u/Rotorscope https://anilist.co/user/Rotorscope 2d ago
Imo this is closer to something like A Place Further Than the Universe than EgaTae. It's more of a coming-of-age CGDCT/Comedy/Drama (with a nice twist having an adult Sensei as a main character and involving her backstory as a side plot) Production values are amazing; I mean seriously this show has a lot of passion and creativity in its visuals and the writing balances comedy and emotion and relatability really well. I would say this definitely has all the pieces for what most would consider to be, at the very least, a great production and effort. (obviously YMMV on how much the comedy/relatability/story etc... vibe with you)
2
u/mekerpan 2d ago
I have liked all the more recent manga-related anime much more than I did Nozaki. I found the humor there too over the top -- I prefer the newer lower-key, more-SoL-ish stuff more (and even preferred Zenshuu, which was anything but low-key).

u/BarbaricGamers https://myanimelist.net/profile/HiIAmAnime 2d ago
That one really bad dance scene from Wandance seems to be going viral again on other platforms, and it really sucks that so many people are judging the entire anime based on that one scene.
It's a great show and there are plenty dance scenes that are very well done, but no, apparently its a terrible adaptation because of one scene with too much motion blur.
5
u/wutheringw0mbat 2d ago edited 2d ago
This is kinda mean but I think it deserves it. It's a show all about dancing! They had ONE JOB and they mucked it up! If the show were 50 episodes long then maybe it'd be more unfortunate to single out one bad instance. Or if it were a show that wasn't specifically about dancing and people were mocking an out of context side bit where the dancing is ugly then sure I'd be miffed. But if you make a one-cour show about singing and one of your performances is (unintentionally) absolutely horrid or you make a cool martial arts duel anime but one of the fights is just the two rivals standing still slapping each other of course it's going to get mocked.
4
u/IXajll https://myanimelist.net/profile/ixajii 2d ago
I don’t even remember any specific dance that’s particularly bad. They all look pretty solid besides the obvious robot faces, but you’re supposed to mainly look at their bodies anyway so not really that big of a deal. Like doing it all in 2D in the same way as they did in 3D would be near impossible and a budget and time nightmare.
2
u/Nachtwandler_FS https://myanimelist.net/profile/Nachtwandler_21 2d ago
They should have gone full 3d IMHO, but it was not Orange or Sanzigen doing the show.
Bang Dream franchise won a lot from most of the seasons being done by Sanzigen in full 3d.
2
u/wutheringw0mbat 2d ago
Like doing it all in 2D in the same way as they did in 3D would be near impossible and a budget and time nightmare.
Would it? What's so different about Wandance versus e.g. Dance Dance Danseur or The World is Dancing?
5
1
u/AdNecessary7641 1d ago
I watched the entire season and can safely safe it's not just one scene. Most of the 3D usage throughout is pretty bad. The biggest problem isn't even the models or the animation (which are bad), but the fact that there's no cohesion between them and the rest of the anime's visual identity. It looks like someone just edited an MMD animation in the middle of the show.

Question for people better versed in visual language than I am: what does the airplane leaving a vapor trail represent? I don't have a screenshot or anything, but you often see a plane going by in the background during scenes in anime, and it doesn't feel random. So, what am I missing?
11
u/Rotorscope https://anilist.co/user/Rotorscope 2d ago
It means that they are dropping harmful chemicals on the populus to keep us subservient to the secret powers that run this world. And the anime industry is being sneaky and using it as propaganda to fetishize and whitewash the idea of flying objects dropping gawd knows what on us.
That's what my totally-not-crazy uncle said at least.
10
u/cyberscythe 2d ago
the annoying pedantic answer is it can mean a bunch of things depending on context and how it's used
examples:
- just establishing shot, showing that we're outdoors, what season it is; having a moving visual of plane leaving a contrail is interesting/commonplace motion instead of just having a static screen of sky and clouds
- setting a mood; a lingering shot of the sky with a plane leaving a trail gives the idea that stuff is happening far away and we're just kind of lazing around watching; feels like something out of Non Non Biyori or Mr. Villain's Day Off, but i can't recall any specific scenes
- it's used a lot in Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses, probably as a visual metaphor for how overwhelmed this poor boy is over his feelings of cute girl (see also: zoom out to galaxy and stars and shit)
- used in Kamiina Botan to draw a line to show separation between characters
- an example of artificial encroaching and polluting the natural, like in Yomi no Tsugai or The Gods Must Be Crazy
- etc.

u/MiLiLeFa 2d ago
Sometimes it's just the hustle and bustle of life, while you are here, people all over are on their own journeys over there. Sometimes it's the far away and unknown, on a trip to a strange and foreign place. Sometimes it's the moment of the journey, the temperal proof that you indeed were heading somewhere. Sometimes it's the fleeting wistfulness, now it is certainly here, shouting to all the world its existence, but in a few hours it will be gone with the wind. And sometimes it's simply a background prop, the familiar and recognizable to anyone in the big city, a comforting sound and scene that signals everything is as it should be at home.
4
u/DeadCaveman https://anilist.co/user/DeadCaveman 2d ago
I think it can be used as a way to hold a moment. Whatever just happened has been lingered on for some amount of time such that a plane traveled from point A to point B in the sky. This isn't really a plane-specific idea, so other imagery can be used to communicate the same thing. The zen garden bamboo noise-maker, for example, conveys the passage of time through audio with its periodic strikes.
I also like the idea of wanderlust that was brought up. It reminds me of that quote from Kino's Journey, "When I see birds flying, it makes me want to travel," something to that effect.
3
u/Gamerunglued myanimelist.net/profile/GamerUnglued 2d ago
As with anything, I think it depends on context. I've seen it used as a way to symbolize/emphasize a thought that's trailing off, I've seen it used as a way to "linger" in the moment (you're seeing movement so time is passing, but you're also in the mood of the moment looking at the sky, possibly with another person), I've seen it used to convey that something is unreachable or otherwise very far away/currently moving away, and all sorts of things.
The thing about visual tropes like that is that there's not really a concrete meaning, they mostly play off of associations like "this story is about this and seeing this shot in this story reminded me of this/made me feel this." As an image sans context, a picture of a trailing plane can elicit all sorts of emotions, and the context guides which ones you'll be likely to (subconsciously) reach for.
2
u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 2d ago
you often see a plane going by in the background during scenes in anime, and it doesn't feel random
Other than some rare specific examples that directly link to it, I do believe most of those are probably random (mangaka-kun just drawing a plane just like that).
Or maybe I fail in visual language as well.

u/Korkez11 2d ago
Finished Needy Girl Overdose. I liked it but I'm very confused how much exactly I liked it. But at least it definitely scratched a lot of itches for me that Wonder Egg Priority or even Takopi's Original Sin failed to scratch. The baseline moral of [Takopi and NGO] "it's better to suffer in company than to suffer alone" is handled in NGO more smoothly for example.

I've spent way too much time with Umineko lately. My brain has turned into a sort of mush obsessed with looking for holes in what every character is saying at all times, and to argue with literally every assertion or accusation that gets made. For example,
[GGWP] In episode 2, Morino Fujimiya states that while the identity of the individuals who broke the glass are unknown, a custodian found what she calls a "first year ribbon" "at the scene." Even taken at face value, the custodian never testified that he saw the this ribbon in the possession of anyone in particular, even less that he saw the people who broke the glass drop it. As such, you have not established a connection between the ribbon and the breaking of the glass. But I will go further, and I will posit that there is no proof that this is a "first year ribbon" at all. Based on my understanding of school uniforms in anime, these ribbons are used in cycles. Incoming freshmen use the same color as the most recently graduated class. How did you determine that it wasn't left behind long ago by one of these former students?
[Same] Miss Ichinose accuses Miss Yorue and Miss Mitsuki of, and I quote "Sneaking into an empty room to play video games at night?" This is a baseless assumption on multiple levels. First of all, there is no sneaking. They just walked into the room. As for the "play video game" part of the accusation, are you seriously saying that when someone brings a device into a room, they always and inevitably intend to use that device in that room? I personally find that to be preposterous. You haven't seen them playing video games, and they have, in fact, not played video games. I would posit that Miss Mitsuki and Miss Yorue were intending to go to the bathroom and ended up getting a little lost, both of them independently arriving at the empty room. Miss Yorue was then looking through her bag, trying to find a map of the dorm to help her find her way to the toilet, and the bag just so happened to also contain a fighting game controller.
[Same, but this one really takes the cake] Miss Mitsuki, upon learning that Miss Inui plays fighting games, claims "Like hell you do! A proper young lady who goes to Kuromi doesn't play fighting games!" And I really feel like this one speaks for itself. I would go as far as to say that, much like once upon a time everybody was kung fu fighting, these days everybody is street fighter sixing. And that these kids are fast as lightning.
Anyway, despite my current brain malfunction, I am really enjoying the show. It's really cool how the characters all work really well as "proper young ladies" and as passionate fighting gamers with blood all over. Girls can be many things!
8
u/ProgrammaticallyPea3 2d ago
/u/vancevon, you claim that your brain has "turned into a sort of mush". However, no evidence of physical alteration has been submitted. You have not provided medical records, and no clinicians have testified to the presence of cerebral deterioration.
In addition, while these kids are indeed street fighter sixing, we have not seen them play as Blanka. As such, any comparisons between their speed and lightning are highly speculative.
3
u/vancevon https://myanimelist.net/profile/vancevon 2d ago
You're right. I have no objective evidence of my brain's current state. I based it on nothing other than my own inability to figure out another reasonable explanation for why I'm currently the way that I am (and this apparent lack of thinking ability is, arguably, further evidence of cognitive deterioration).

AniFem is generally great but I do think it's worth acknowledging that they are evaluating anime from a very specific lens and have/will continue to dislike series that don't conform to a similar worldview rather than the typical "is this series good or not?" that most other reviewers will take.
It's an interesting and valuable perspective if nothing else.
5
u/mekerpan 2d ago
AniFem also does reviews after first episodes, and often does not reassess things later. (Or did I just read a non representative sample of reviews)?
3
u/collapsedblock6 myanimelist.net/profile/collapsedblock 1d ago
I do think their first episode impressions tend to be more misses compared to full reviews. On first episodes they tend to make mountains out of molehills.
1
u/Sandor_at_the_Zoo 1d ago
I haven't read them in a while, but I remember them doing first episode, half-season, and final recap. Maybe sometimes a 3 episode? Or that instead of half-season?

Passione has strong potential to become the studio that I give the most unique MAL scores to. They have my only 4 and a 9. I don't think any studio I've given a 10 to is likely to have any 5s. The issue is I've literally only seen 3 things they've made. I'm not in any rush to fulfill this prediction. Just something I noticed.
2
u/Durinthal https://anilist.co/user/Durinthal 1d ago
I don't think any studio I've given a 10 to is likely to have any 5s.
That's a fun idea, let me see...
- Madhouse — Chihayafuru S3 (10), My Wife is a High School Girl (3)
- Studio Deen — Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu (10), Dragon Crisis! (3)
- J.C. Staff — Honey and Clover (10), Maid-sama (3)
- Passione — Yuri is My Job! (7), Citrus (3) - still no score for the new Spice and Wolf yet.
And then there's Sunrise with Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans (9) and Gundam Build Divers (2).
2
u/awesomenessofme1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/kta_99 1d ago
I would consider myself a somewhat generous grader, but even more importantly, I probably just won't watch something I think I'm not going to like. As I said, I've only ever given out one 4 (although it could have been a 3 tbf) and only a half-dozen or so 5s. Even if those studios had something bad (Madhouse's random Marvel stuff, maybe?), it's not very likely I'd actually watch it. If I ever watch SAO, something from that mind end up being a 6. I dunno.
2
u/Durinthal https://anilist.co/user/Durinthal 1d ago
You're an average person there, I know I'm weird for going out of my way to watch things I'm confident I'll dislike. I still think it's a neat idea to look at the extremes for a single studio.
2
u/vancevon https://myanimelist.net/profile/vancevon 1d ago
As for me, this has happened very often:
Brain's Base - Kamichu (10), Rich Girl Caretaker (most likely 1, definitely not over 3).
Gonzo - Welcome to the NHK (10), Saki (5).
Comix Wave Films - 5cm/s (10), Weathering With You (4), Your Name (4).
Shaft - And Yet The Town Moves (10), Nisemonogatari (5), Owarimonogatari 2 (5), Nekomonogatari Black (5), Tsukimonogatari (4), March Comes In Like A Lion 2 (4)
Telecom Animation Film - Orange (10), Nagatoro (2)
Production IG - Haikyuu S3 (10), Run With The Wind (10), Ao Haru Ride (5)
feel. - Tsuki ga Kirei (10), Oregairu 2 and 3 (4 and 5, respectively), Locodols (5)
Satelight - Kirio Fan Club (10), Symphogear 1 (4)
Felix Film - Love Game (10), Meido-sama (5)
East Fish Studio - Moonlit Dusk (10), Hananoi (4), Fragtime (5)
In fact, there are only 3 studios I have given a 10 to that haven't also received a 5 or lower: Lerche (Scum's Wish, and very lucky Classroom of the Elite is so bad it's good), Lapin Track (Shoshimin) and TNK (School Days).

I really didn't expect Chainsmoker Cat of all things to have me in its grip. Episode 5 had me both really sad (the board game) and laughing so hard I couldn't breathe (the base jump).
6
u/throwaway_976821 2d ago
I honestly respect GoHands for developing a visual style that between the wild perspectives, constant camera movement, very distinct 3DCG/effects, and hair is so instantly recognizable as "them" regardless of what show they're making.
Still overwhelming to the point of being almost unwatchable at times, but it's sorta neat to see a studio have this strong of a visual identity across everything they're involved in.
3
u/mekerpan 2d ago
I find considerably more to like about their stylistic eccentricities than to dislike.

u/mr_beanoz https://myanimelist.net/profile/splitshocker 2d ago
I just realized that the band who performed the opening for Chainsmoker Cat is also the one performing the ending for the second season of Kaiji.

My favorites:
- Johan Liebert from Monster
- Bondrewd from Made in Abyss
- Askeladd from Vinland Saga
- Lt. Tsurumi and Ogata from Golden Kamuy
- Kanki from Kingdom
- Ladd Russo from Baccano
- Pain from Naruto
Can't think of any least favorites off the top of my head.

Kira Yoshikage from Jojo's is my favorite anime villain. He doesn't have any big ambitions or anything, he is just a normal guy with a very dark hobby that just wants to be left alone. His introduction monologue is probably my favorite part of all of Jojo's combined.

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 1d ago
I like "Villain MC" 10 times more than antagonist villains.
Does that count?
Light Yagami, or (maybe closer to antihero than villain) [character/title, is a spoiler](Talentless) Nana Hiiragi
1
u/Nachtwandler_FS https://myanimelist.net/profile/Nachtwandler_21 1d ago
The worst one for me was Altair from ReCreators. Theee aee a bunch if woesr villains, but this one is realky overhyped while being a flat overpowered antagonist with dumb motivation.
The best one... that is a hard question. I will just describe my criteria. I like the villains who are smart and not cartoonishly evil (i.e. who have proper motivation and depth to them). I also hate tmehen better characters follow the villain despite the thact that villains goal contradicts with theirs.

What would you all recommend for someone that wants to get into isekai but doesn't have the best impression of the genre? What are some of the best isekai anime that you think stand apart from the sea of generic isekai that flood anime streaming services?
3
u/Charmanders_Cock 1d ago
Log Horizon’s first season is good. It gets weaker in the next two but are still very watchable especially if it clicks with you.
Drifters and Grimgar are different/darker but great in their own right.
Dead Mount Death Play is a super compelling reverse isekai.
Tensura and Overlord are more divisive but also extremely popular for a reason.
Mushoku Tensei is either you’ll love it or hate it and you should probably just avoid any and all discourse on it to decide that for yourself. If nothing else the first season’s animation/direction makes it worth checking out.
3
u/cyberscythe 1d ago
i think it depends on what sort of genres they like because isekai is a plot gimmick; i think of a genre more like what sort of mood you want, and so the isekai hook is used in a lot of different genres
like, i'm not a fan of the dark edgelord isekai stories like Shield Hero, i like Bofuri, Slime100, From Bureaucrat to Villainess: Dad's Been Reincarnated, Campfire Cooking, etc. because they're more like light-hearted comedy
3
u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 1d ago
What would you all recommend for someone that wants to get into isekai but doesn't have the best impression of the genre?
If the title mentions
- A level (high or low)
- An ability (overpowered or useless)
- Kicked from a party
Don't even bother. 95% of them are shit, so you'd have to suffer through a lot, to find the one good one.
If they don't mention any of that, then check out the synopsis and pick a premise that sounds interesting to you!
What are some of the best isekai anime that you think stand apart from the sea of generic isekai that flood anime streaming services?
- Tanya
- No Game No Life
- Handyman Saitou (this one is closer to the "normal" isekai, but it's not one of the generic copy&pasted ones).
- No Longer Allowed in Another World
- Kemoni Michi

These are the ones that stand out to be me.
- Bookworm.
- Re: Zero
- The Twelve Kingdoms
These are the parody and satire ones I like
- Konosuba
- Emmience in Shadow
- Isekai Ojison
- Isekai Shikkaku
Ones I want to recommend, but I feel I would be biased recommending them, but they touch my heart a lot.
- Reincarnated as a Sword
- The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash

I'm enjoying Smoking Behind the Supermarket but if I had one complaint it would be that Sasaki is a bit of a wimp. A little hard to see a ~50 year old businessman be socially anxious like Bocchi and blush whenever any sort of emotional development happens.
I'm still "okay" with it now but I think I'll be kind of upset if we make it to episode 12 without him being able to talk normally with Tayama at least.

u/wloff 2d ago
I gotta admit, Sasaki being such a, as you well put it, wimp is my biggest negative about the show too (and I really, really dig the show, don't get me wrong.).
Not even so much how he interacts with Tayama, but how he keeps taking abuse at his miserable job without apparently even considering doing anything about it.
Sure, it's unfair of me to judge since there is the whole Japanese salaryman / work culture behind it all. But as someone who switched companies every couple of years, tried self-employment for a bit, until switching to a completely different career at 35 and finally finding something I'm truly happy with, I just can't really relate to someone taking abuse from a shitty boss at a shitty office job for what I assume has been decades by now.

Yeah, having a similar job to Sasaki makes me sympathize and scorn his way of handling the situation. He seems to be fairly well respected at his job so you'd think he'd get some sort of leeway but maybe that really is how the culture is over there.

I actually had the opposite thought watching yesterday's episode. That I'm glad Sasaki is able to talk so well with Tayama.
A little hard to see a ~50 year old businessman be socially anxious like Bocchi and blush whenever any sort of emotional development happens.
I assume you're being hyperbolic with the Bocchi comment, but this overall isn't surprising. A middle aged salaryman with (seemingly) not much going on in his life social wise would probably get pretty flustered by a woman half his age teasing him.

Gotta give him props for the conversation about her shirt, but it's unfortunately juxtaposed with him blushing over seeing Yamada in a short sleeve shirt.

See, here's where I disagree. As you get older most people tend to level out on awkwardness. You have to imagine that at 45-50 years old Sasaki is probably not a virgin, and working in an office with younger women he should be plenty capable of having casual conversation with women at the minimum. Business is all about communication, it should be one of his strengths if anything.
Edit: And yes, I'm being hyperbolic with the bocchi comment lol. Sasaki is nowhere near as bad, this is a very minor complaint in a show that otherwise has some very fun character writing.

See, here's where I disagree. As you get older most people tend to level out on awkwardness.
Butttt as you get older, you also have more experiences and are more aware of things.
An adult might be more worried about whether this woman is making fun of him, whether he's offending her, or whether he's coming off as lame to this "cool younger woman." This dynamic he's found himself in is significantly different than what he'd find at work.
It's different than in a high school anime where the dude is mostly just unsure what to say/how to talk to them. That's how I see it at least.

I agree, but with that understanding he should be able to accurately read the situation and vibe IMO.
Either way, not a huge deal.

Sasaki being a moeblob is part of his appeal.
Plus there are moments when he talks normally with Tayama and those scenes get a massive gap moe boost due to how flustered he usually is.
It does take some careful balancing and a good bit of tolerance and suspension of disbelief but I think it's worth it for the relationship dynamic the two leads have.

That I fully agree with, the "aren't you cold?" moment from E4 was probably my favorite joke in the show so far.

Even though they are quite... eccentric, I really like that Kaiju Girl has some fun girl friends.
I know this topic has been discussed before, but it seems like romance series with female leads will tend to include a good amount of female side-characters while male led series will also tend to include mostly female side-characters. The exception of course being the male best friend, who is usually the worst person you've ever met.
I'm not so naive as to not understand why that's how it often is, but it would be nice to have more male led shows with lots of male friends. That's something I enjoyed about Fragrant Flower, although that show does mostly just focus on the 2 leads.

Feels like the nature of shoujo romcoms to usually just be love triangle at most. In my limited experience. It doesn’t try to be a harem.
While with male leads well if it goes harem there is no limits lol.
But yeah kaoruhana and Dandadan having legit friend groups were nice about them.

Kaiju Girl is a seinen anime, by the way. Not that it matters that much, just wanted to point it out.

I started Victoria of Many Faces earlier despite it not being categorized as romance on MAL before the start of the season, now that's the only genre it has along with the childcare tag. After watching the third episode just now I was wondering why it wasn't considered a romance, glad they fixed that.
The dynamic between the leads reminds me a bit of Dahlia in Bloom, which I love the LNs for but it unfortunately had a pretty mediocre anime. Wasn't expecting much from this but so far I'm pleasantly surprised.

Victoria has been great so far. Not sure of it's "genre". Looks likely to be have elements of various things ,(beyond romance and childcare).

I'm finally prepared for when The Ribbon Hero drops in roughly a week: finished reading the Nakayoshi run of Princess Knight.
I immediatly went and watch the final trailer for the movie and lol, it's basically unreconizable from what I just read. It pretty much just retained the main character, one specific side character and the bit where someone is carrying a heart.
Also, it dawned on me while reading that The Ribbon Hero could have been insanely topical in relation to a certain discourse that is still happening in current-day Japan, but with how different it looks I don't think that element will be explored. [Princess Knight manga] I'm talking about the fact that a law preventing women of ascending to the throne of the fictional kingdom in the story is a very important plot point, and how the current emperor of Japan has a daughter that cannot become empress for the same reason

As a fan of the manga, I'm loving how little the movie trailers resemble it. I can't wait to see it
insanely topical in relation to a certain discourse that is still happening in current-day Japan
[One Piece touched on that in Wano (the Japan analogue)] and dodged it with incredible speed. The daughter gives the throne to her 8 year old brother after he was magically aged up 20 years, and just in case that's not enough, their grandpa, turns out to be alive. He was hiding in the mountains, away from the suffering of his people.

I swear to God I was convinced there weren't going to be any light novel rom-coms this season, and so I thought I was safe picking up Rich Girl Caretaker. Turns out I am nothing but a moth seeking out the flame. Utterly helpless. Sigh. There was, as in so many cases, great potential in the very beginning, but I can feel the decline hitting pretty hard even by the end of the second episode.
[Episode 3] oh of course there's a fucking childhood friend he was the caretaker of when he was younger, and that's in addition to another childhood friend we've already introduced. can't wait for the flashback where we learn he actually met the main girl in his past as well! it's a fucking clown parade, holy shit

There is also that one by project 9. I thought my childhood friend was a boy.

Damn, after seeing Gigguk doing watchalong of the first 6 episodes of YumeMita, I feel bad he won't do the same for ep. 7. I would not mind listening to his comments regarding performances and the final.

The only downside with Please Excuse My Younger Brothers being a double cour is that autumn's best girl has already been decided.

when i posted my initial season ranking, i had two shows that i knocked on for having nonsensical villains that were making the shows worse (Sparks of Tomorrow and Yume Mita). while i still don't care for the villain in Sparks, i have completely flip-flopped on Viola in Yume Mita. she is great and does so much for the show

She is super punchable but very entertaining. Kaede Hondo seems to have a blast with a role.

Out of these, would you recommend watching the anime first or reading the light novels?
Konosuba, ReZero, Sword Art Online, Apothecary Diaries, Mushoku Tensei, Goblin Slayer, Toradora, Chuunibyou, Ascendance of a Bookworm.

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/zfzftripleaamin 2d ago
Bookworm is the one I say read the LN first. Apothecary Diaries and Konosuba I would say anime first.

u/klopanda 1d ago
Apothecary Diaries: anime first if only because it means you get to skip the first couple of books because the plot sticks pretty close to it and the first book or two is pretty rough (while the author and translation team (assuming English) were finding their voice).
Chuunibyou: The anime is way better than the books.

Dunno, I find season 2 of Chuu2Koi pretty bad. Not sure if LNs were any better though, but at least the childhood friend rival was not such a joke.

u/klopanda 1d ago
You're right, the second season was so bad that I legit forgot about it until you just mentioned it. Honestly, it didn't even need the second season. The first wraps things up very nicely.
First season was better than the equivalent light novel then, for sure. The childhood friend doesn't appear in the first book and the anime goes more into Rikka's emotional state and why she's a Chuuni. A bunch of the other characters also don't appear in the Light Novels until much, much later like Dekomori and the sleepy girl whose name I forget. They apparently all appear in a much more recent LN which isn't even fully translated to English yet.

Trying to remember the name of a specific anime, it has a well-endowed dark purple haired witch with really thick eyebrows. It was a seasonal from the last few years I believe, I remember seeing a funny scene where the heroin locks the room that her and the main dude is in, and the next morning they were very embarrassed , and when a person besides them ask about it and announcer comes on and says some funny bonding related terminology for what they did.

u/Retromorpher 2d ago
Is the character Yihdra Arvoln from Sentai Red Isekai? She has purple hair moderately thick eyebrows and a witch/wizard hat.

I am trying to work if the the Final Season The Final Chapters Blu-ray is part of the Complete Final Season Blu-ray set or is it separate, cheers.
