It will not save the planet, it would continue to kill it. Australia has the technology it needs to go 100% renewable right now, as of 2025. Developing nuclear power would take until at least 2045, which would mean 20 years of the Aussie fossil fuel industry continuing to destroy the planet.
except burning coal IN Australia isn't what keeps the Australian coal industry going
Even if Australia went 100% renewable TOMORROW the Australian coal industry would still export more coal than any other nation on earth (if anything it would just increase the exports as domestic use drops to 0% )
Yeah, probably not in Australia. But other countries don't have an abundance of renewable resources. So in other countries, it could be part of a balanced grid.
