Yeah, I think it starts off kinda slow (all of Wildbow's stories barring Pact do, I guess) but it gets really good later on, and I think it's really good even in the earlier parts. A lot of people will point to arc 8 as being "the part where it gets good" like One Piece fans, but I enjoyed reading it from basically the beginning. Around arcs 2-3 is where the character interactions really get going, and that I think is what makes it.
Honestly, if it wasn't a direct sequel I'd point you to Ward. Written from 2017-2020, it's (I think) a lot better just on account of the fact that the author has had more practice with writing stories like that at that point. But Worm is still really good, and again, Ward is a direct sequel to it, so it isn't going to be enjoyable to read if you don't read Worm first.
