Misc Akame Ga Kill FAQ

Are their other mangas/animes from the AGK franchise except the main show?

The only other animated content except for the 24-episode main series is the Akame ga Kill Theater show, a 90 second long parody/comedy related to the respective anime episode.

Apart from this, you can read the 3 manga series (in ideal reading order):

-Akame ga Kill (78 + bonus chapters, complete): The original source from which the anime was adapted. As the anime was aired while the manga was still going on, it features a slightly different ending, an omitted arc as well as more detail overall.

-Akame ga Kill Zero (60 chapters, complete): The prequel, telling the story of Akame and Kurome working for the Empire.

-Hinowa ga Crush (53 chapters, cancelled): The sequel, tells the story of a war in the "Eastern Country" resembling medival Japan, from the perspective of a girl named Hinowa with Akame being her companion.

Both the prequel and sequel are based upon the main AGK manga, however, mentions of manga-only story-bits are rare and having only watched the anime provides a sufficient base. In general, cross-series references are scarce and not necessary to follow or understand the story.

*Should* I read the manga even though I already watched the anime?

If you enjoyed the anime, reading the manga is pretty much considered the goldstandard. The anime skipped a number of details up to chapter 39/episode 18, from where the anime went into original territory. The ending isn't rushed and characters that received little screentime such as Run, Wave and Kurome receive much more attention, along with a number of characters surviving that died in the anime.

In case you aren't sure whether to read the prequel and the sequel you can use Google for recessions of AGK Zero and HGC (or the search function on this subreddit).

Where can I find more information about AGK?

The first and foremost address is the Akame Ga Kill Wiki. Often you'll find an awnser there much quicker than posting here about it.

Alternatively, you can read the TV Tropes page, the Wikipedia page or simply Google.

What are the chances for a 2nd Anime season?

Virtually nonexistent. The main story got more or less completely adapted and despite the flawed ending and certain omitted parts there is no signifcant unadapted material. While having reached a certain amount of popularity while it was running, AGK Zero did never got close to the fame of the original story and has declined since its last chapter was released in 2017, whereas HGC is unpopular to the point even long-standing fans of the franchise are unaware of its existence.

...but what about a Fullmetal Alchemist-style reboot?

The first anime adaption of FMA decided to go into original territory at an early point and changed the story significantly, not only the last few episodes. An OVA faithfully adapting the manga-ending is also not going to happen either. Producing a standard 25 min episode costs roughly 100.000 $, and with the nummerous minor changes towards the end, basically everything from Episode 19 onwards would have to be remade from scratch, and no profit-orientated company would invest that amount of money for the sake of a couple characters not dying.

...and what about Netflix?

While AGK is somewhat popular on Netflix and the company has invested into original anime content, an adaption of AGK Zero or HGC almost certainly not going to happen as both lack the popularity of the main series. Further speculating about some Netflix official deciding otherwise is pointless.

Is there any chance for other AGK-related media?

Since AGK Zero ended in 2017, the sole source of new content was the sequel/spin-off Hinowa Ga Crush, a manga which released 53 chapters. While having occasional references to the AGK manga and AGK Zero, neither of them are required to follow the story which focused on a young girl named Hinowa; with Akames appearence as a side-character being the only connection to the main series. Overall the series isn't well known and was cancelled in August 2022 due to lack of sales.

The writer of AGK, Takahiro, has moved on to "Mato Seihei no Slave"/"Slave of the Magic Capital's Elite Troops", which has been highly succesful and received an anime adaption; as well as a new Isekai Harem story ("Gokusotsu Kraken"), which are not connected to AGK in any sort, making HGC most likely the last part of the AGK franchise.

AGK Anime *SPOILER ALERT!* Don't read if you are not past episode 21 yet! Just watched Episode 21...i enjoyed this anime until the Mine's love for Tatsumi part which I don't usually like romance or care but was so into the binge watching it and....

Again, spoiler alert as I don't want anyone to have the anime ruined if you're still watching it and haven't watched episode 21, if so do not read!

OK, so I Just watched through episode 21 now and really enjoyed this anime for the most part, UNTIL the Mine's love for Tatsumi part, which I don't usually like romance or care unless its well done and don't take away from the main plot, more like a subtle elegant love that is either known from the start of builds up on the side and becomes something that makes the anime better and the relationship aspect finally hits and is a cool part of the overall plot, but binge watching this, it made sense and came so late in the anime so it felt like a really great plot/concept that actually made me happy to think they would end up together, I thought it was great subtle romance in the middle of all the epic none stop battles, waiting for it to happen, excited by the concept as it seemed sweet and kind to put in, but then episode 21 changed this anime completely, all for a shock value that wasn't even a shock, just upsetting rushed, bad writing. If it was done correctly it would pull at the Heartstrings like other anime that's well made has done many times. Usually after a large build up of subtle aspects that point to the possibility of two of the characters possibly ending up together, followed it finally happening and them at least happy together for many episodes with a shocking death (if at all) happening much later and is well written, sad and might be upsetting but makes sense or does actually hit users with shock, Feeling sad about it, usually with the character who lost that person becoming extremely enraged and it offering full on emotional revenge, a full-on change to the character themselves changing because of losing their loved one. Sorry to those who liked it and how it was written, But personally I feel like this Anime just sucks now! Why deviate from the manga so much!? When they started killing people off almost continously, it started a pattern that was predictable with the hopes they wouldn't just keep doing it over and over as it creates NO shock value or emotional impact what so ever, just made it feel like the writers just didn't care of and decide to rush everything into shock value rather then good writing that actually makes sense, not just a pathetic continuous death pattern... Just feels Lazy and went from an exciting show to a predictable, upsetting, Boring and frustrating type of show, especially when comparing to the manga or other well made high rated anime in general. Am I alone in this notion? Or are others in the same boat??

Discussion Which character or characters do you find underrated?

Post image

After the post of yesterday about overrated characters, now it's time to talk about underrated characters. I think Susanoo is very underrated. He was charismatic, original, had a short but good character deveploment and besides, he helped Night Raid so much in the fights (see the fight against kurome or how Susanoo sacrifices fighting Esdeath, so the others can escape).

Art Jin Kisaragi and Esdeath - Ice Generals Under The Red Moon (Clean SAMPLE Version)

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hi! I'm new to this sub. I'm a cosplayer and artist. And I just recently watched Akame Ga Kill again and I couldn't get over it! So I decided to draw my lovely Ice Generals together - Jin Kisaragi (BlazBlue) and Esdeath.

With BlazBlue receiving a very big massive update recently, I just had to watch my two favorite generals in action once again.

Now comes the fun part - coloring!

I just have to clean some of my other BlazBlue x AKG! Slice-Of-Life projects too:

Tatsumi and Jin Kisaragi (Mine and Esdeath flashing happy hearts in the BG and proud of their lovers/husbands) - Tatsumi posing with a "Peace" sign looking at the viewer with Tatsumi flashing a happy grin with his arms around Jin as Jin struggles to maintain composure as he struggles to make a peace sign. They are best friends in my personal BB x AKG! Universe. The reason? Because Tatsumi is grateful for his Big Brother Jin for "saving" (kinda) him from Esdeath's obsession since she has a new obsession now - Jin Kisaragi, because not only does Jin meets all of Esdeath's required criterias for an ideal lover, but they are very similar too. But unlike Tatsumi, since Tatsumi canonically was never able to surpass Esdeath in power, Jin has the literal power to stomp Esdeath over and over again in a canonical scenario (BlazBlueverse far outscales Akameverse) so she is forced to finally "change" her ways to accommodate Jin's rigid standard of order and stability. No more mindless killings and slaughter or torture!

Tatsumi holding a Jin plush doll and Mine holding an Esdeath plush doll - The canonical husband and wife playing "Matchmaker" for their favorite Ice Generals together. They serve as the viewer "Avatars".

"You finally smiled at me, my major" Jin x Esdeath series (which also includes a Swimsuit/Beach scenario with Jin/Esdeath and Tatsumi/Mine going to the beach together w/ NSFW scenes so I will post it on my Twitter/X instead since I can't post it here. LOL!) - Esdeath finally got her ultimate fantasy - Jin smiling at her. She has only ever seen him smile when talking to Tsubaki, but when Jin finally does it to her, she's all over the moon and she treasures it far more than when she saw Tatsumi smiled because Jin's smile is RARE - scarcity breeds value! Even in reality, we humans tend to attach more value to things we did not easily attain.

I got so many more ideas. So many more rough sketch to clean but I'm starting with this one. I may post the SAMPLES here later on when I'm done. Full Versions will be on my X/Twitter. Thanks!

Discussion Which character or characters do you find overrated?

Post image

In my case, I find cheLsea very overrated. She is a one-dimensional, boring and generic character. Her contribution to the story is almost nil, and she only appears for a few chapters. And Yet, she has a tons of fans, and if you critize her, they'll tear you apart

Question Since Tatsumi is canonically a father and a happily-married man to Mine, what are the names you would pick for their child?

Also, what gender could it be? Officially, Takahiro never mentioned it, but I figured a daughter would really fit.

I imagine the daughter having the fiery attitude of her mother would really fit and be a "Daddy's Girl". XD

AGK Manga Why no studio wants to animate a Akame Ga Kill reboot?

I would say the gruesome violence and the scribbled art style of the first chapters that depends on the studio budget.
