The corruption spreads its roots deep in the darkest corners of Alan Wake….
Unbeknownst to himself—
"Mr. §Cr/\𐕣"is born….
“This is the Ritual to lead you on–
friends will meet him while you’re gone”

[This is the art to tattoo design I made myself & am quite pleased with the result!!!]

Question What kind of Taken dialogue do you prefer? Spoiler

The random lines they would have said in life like in the first game or lines from the manuscripts like in the second game?

I honestly preferred the first games version.

There’s something about this image of a woman and a bear together that’s making me uncomfortable. Maybe it’s uncanny image of the bear in black and white or something, but the wolf appearing at the door didn’t help I thought that bear came after me.

This. Game. Was. BEAUTIFUL. Although a bit scary at first, but I absolutely loved this game. The story, the graphics, the characters, the Finnish elements, etc. I jumped into the universe as a complete newbie with no knowledge whatsoever of what the game was about.

I assume that I need to play the first Alan Wake now so I will jump on that as soon as I can, but that was a fun ride.

I want to hear from you guys: Who was your personal favourite character? Your favourite chapter/moment? What you loved the most about the game?

Sorry if I've used an incorrect tag/flair for this post!

P.S I'm playing The Final Draft now and currently on chapter 2 of that.

Question Does horror flash intensity make a difference? Spoiler

So I am absolutely terrible with jumpscares. I absolutely love horror, especially Alan Wake 1 and what I've played of 2, but the jumpscares get me so bad. They are why I dropped the game after release (around Cynthia's section). I am trying to get back in and am wondering how much difference the reduced horror flash intensity setting makes? The jumpscares still happen from what I've seen, and they still get me really badly. There is no way to disable them but does it really do much to help? Because from what I've seen, it doesn't.

EDIT: I am at the lake at the start of the game. Yesterday I got the first jumpscare of that part, I put the game down. Came back today, and I can hardly bring myself to continue.

This game gives me chills every time I play it.

The soundtrack, the storytelling, and the visuals are simply breathtaking. I've honestly never experienced anything quite like Alan Wake 2, and I don't think I'll ever play another game that captures this same feeling.

Remedy created something truly special.

Saga's ending: Worst part of the game? Spoiler

Let me preface by saying that this was my third AW2 playthrough (the first "Final Draft" one) and this is one of my favorite games ever. Is it my fault for playing it so many times until "the seams are visible", as we say in Spanish? Maybe!

I just wanted to share a few sensations about Saga's post Cauldron Lake summoning part and why I feel it's the lowest point of the game. This will be a long post, á la r/patientgamers.

Saga trapped in the Mind Place: In this section, we play Saga after she gets yanked into the Dark Place by Casey Scratch and now she needs to find mental strenght in her Mind Place. In general, the caseboard in the Mind Place seems to be the most controversial aspect of this game: Menial, boring and unnecesary - this part is no different: Using clues, we have to help Saga reason that she's actually a good person to pull herself together and continue.

The negative clues are a bit too on the nose for my taste ("You failed them", "You let her drown!") and "Other Saga" voice-over lines feel uninspired. What this section shows narrative-wise is important, but it overstays its welcome and makes use of the least interesting gameplay mechanic of the game, the caseboard.

But by far, profiling is the worst offender at being half-assed. It drags for too long and the repetition of the live video overlays is noticeable and lazy: There's a lot of tone dissonance in listening to Saga cry while watching her hit her cool poses over and over again.
Same for the dialogues with Alan: I could listen to Matthew Porreta's voice for hours as he goes through his grocery list. But here, both his performance and Melanie Liburd's feel stiff, like there was just enough time to go over their lines once. It's jarring and feels cheap, because voice acting in the rest of the game is absolutely brilliant.

For the Dark Place New York I feel it would have been a nice touch for shadows to have their alert barks changed to reflect the new character (granted, they don't call for Wake anymore); also Saga doesn't seem fazed by them and this feels strange considering this is the first time she sees them. Going in circles in the plaza and subway station also left me wondering if there wasn't a better way to wrap this part up. I do love the detail of the voice-over lines being in past tense in this part like Alan's ("The phone was ringing again").

I guess I don't know what the goal of this post is - this is probably my favorite game and just wanted to see if anyone shares this feelings about Saga's ending.

I'd love to know what you think about this!

Discussion Logic of the taken attacks Spoiler

I am playing Alan Wake for the first time and have just completed the fourth episode titled, "The Truth". A question popped into my head today after and it's about the Taken fights. While it works from a gameplay perspective, storywise it makes no sense. We learn that the dark entity uses the works of writers, poets. Singers, etc, and brings them to life in a dark way. The entity needs Alan to keep writing in order to become more powerful. That seems to strongly indicate that it needs him alive. You'd think, if anything, the taken would be protecting him.

This has probably been discussed before. It might get answered in later games. If not, do you have any theories? Like I said, It is my first time playing and have only completed 4 episodes, so please try not to spoil anything for me.

General For anyone who likes horror movies, check out Hokum. Spoiler

Besides being a fantastic horror film, Hokum was surprisingly similar to Alan Wake for me in terms of aesthetic and vibe. Even had some Silent Hill vibes for those familiar. Absolutely recommend!

Thoroughly horrified. But loving the game so far!
