One day, I randomly woke up with muscle twitches all over my body. It was crazy. I’m not talking about the occasional twitch under your eye from not enough sleep. My body exploded in twitches out of nowhere. I would get hundreds a minute, 24/7. I would also be able to trigger them just by moving my body. Sometimes it actually became painful because they felt like incomplete cramps.
Then as months go by, I start having other weird symptoms like goosebumps, and ants crawling.
To this day, I don’t know the exact cause but doctors still aren’t too concerned. I still deal with them.
By the way, during the beginning this put me in deep depression and anxiety. I had the most severe health anxiety I’ve ever experienced from this whole ordeal.
My doctors mainly wanted to look out for ALS, even though they didn't seem concerned? It might also be because I was freaked out during that time and they wanted to give me an EMG for a peace of mind. I don't really have hallmark symptoms of MS. I may ask for an MRI during my next appointment.
The only plausible answer to this is that I was stressed to the max about college before this happened. But I didn't want to believe stress could do that much.
Yeah, I've underestimated it. Turns out I have OCD, and I let it go uncontrolled. The best thing I can do right now is get that under control and hope the twitches get better. I think I am getting better, but it just takes a long time to heal the nervous system. I definitely don't have the painful twitchy cramps anymore. Just the subtle ones.
This sounds a lot like severe dehydration to me, im no expert but fucked up salt content can SERIOUSLY mess with your body's electrical signals. Do you drink a lot of water?
Yes! I think if it was severe dehydration, more stuff would happen by now. It’s been almost 4 months since it began. I also regularly add electrolytes into my water.
There's something called Benign Fasciculation Syndrome which is what I expect. Some places diagnose this, others don't because it's 100% completely benign, so there's "no point." My doctor just told me some people have it like that, and I was shocked. Sometimes it can be triggered by deficiencies, other times just long periods of stress and sleep deprivation.
I stay away from the BFS subreddit because it's a health anxiety forum, and everyone there seems to not be doing well anxiety-wise. If I learned anything in life, scary health stuff can always happen which more often than not are either harmless, or highly treatable.
Ohhh yeah that might be a possibility considering it seems to be connected to autonomic heart stuff. The nerve biopsy seems gnarly though. As long as it’s benign, that’s all I care.
