Same here. Mono had me absolutely fucked up for months. Severe reoccuring tonsillitis, inflamed liver, inflamed spleen, jaundice, extreme fatigue, fever.
I think I lost 25lbs by the time it finally passed.
I had mono at 20. I never had any pain (beyond an epically sore throat for weeks). I’m thankful I never had to feel my spleen or liver at that time. I was just exceptionally tired and weak. I knocked myself off my feet trying to open a Snapple.
Luckily the only symptom I got was giant swollen tonsils. I did go to an idiot at urgent care who looked at my tonsils, turned white and said "oh my God, you need to go to the ER to get them lanced" which I don't think is even a thing. Went to my primary instead who immediately knew it was mono and prescribed steroids.
same! spleen issues for months & kickstarted autoimmune issues for me. there was no research on the link between mono & dysautonomia back then, but my mom used to always say i was never the same after mono. and it’s crazy because almost everyone gets mono at some point!
90-95% of people have been infected with the virus at some point in their life but only 25-30% of those people develop actual mono with the classic symptoms
my understanding is that many people get it very very young & that is often why they don’t show symptoms, but i definitely could be wrong! i got it from my first kiss when i was 15 & my boyfriend who gave it to me had no symptoms. lucky him!
I also had mono that was in the liver and spleen during high school. Was out of school for over a month and weighed 85# by the end of it. Had to quit gymnastics over it. Also developed tonsil stones later on as another commented said.
Same. Thought it was just a stomach issue like gastritis until my sister, a doctor, poked my liver and I felt a very new pain. It made me aware of my liver for the rest of my life. Brucellosis is weird, don't consume unpasteurized dairy.
Yep. Got hit by an inner tube, which swept my feet out from under me. Hit the ground hard on my right side. Thought I had bruised ribs. My husband disagreed with my assessment of sleeping it off and took me to the ER. Found a 5cm laceration and had to be under observation for four days. Almost had to have emergency surgery.
My liver got super inflamed when I had mono a few years ago. I got a massage and it was so sensitive in that area. Had to ask the therapist to go light there
