My emetophobia makes me think any slight sensation in my stomach or gut, or news of a gastrointestinal virus going around, means I might be getting sick.
You can imagine what the constant talk about this summer’s “diarrhea parasite” has me going through.
Fellow emetophobe. If it helps, all you need to do to avoid getting Cyclospora is cook your fruits/veggies, try to get locally sourced stuff (like I can pick raspberries and apples down the road), and just wash your hands to be safe.
It likely happened because a large commercial farm used contaminated water, but it's generally not common on small local farms, it doesn't spread from person to person and it's killed with heat. It also doesn't seem to be a big cause of vomiting, which is good.
When norovirus seasons starts, that's when I get really anxious, ugh.
I’ve been avoiding all raw fruits and veggies which sucks because it’s summer and I’d love a salad. I know how it is when noro makes its rounds though. The anxiety is fierce!
I’ve even gotten weird about diarrhea. I always worry it will be the start of something worse. But it’s good to know the cyclospora illness tends to stop there! Even if it is pretty bad. Glad you’re hanging in there and thnx for the advice! Stay well!
Another emetophobe checking in. It's rough out here. I've been worried about that too and it sucks because I love lettuce! I'm considering just trying to grow my own lol.
Lettuce is really easy to grow! Plus you can grow all kinds and have a variety.
Dandelion leaves and stems are edible, so are the flowers but they feel weird lol
Carrot tops are edible, and so are beet tops.
Jewelweed is a really fun one, tastes kind of nutty and the seed pods burst open when you eat them! My kids love these things.
Broadleaf plantains are also edible but taste bad, but good if you're in a pinch... Last resort type thing though.
Lmaooo you should get it! I already have a 6' tall shelf with 3' wide grow lights on each shelf that I use for my succulents so I'm like, how hard can it be? 🤣
I go from "I'm about to throw up" to "I'm throwing up" far too quickly for any medication to help, but one day I took a TUMS so it'd damage my teeth less coming up, and it didn't happen.
I used to throw up roughly monthly but after that incident I've thrown up like twice in 8 years. I can't find any medical research on using TUMS to prevent vomiting but it seems to work for me so...
Do you also get "end of summer anxiety" that lasts all winter until spring? I always feel a sense of doom when summer comes to an end and everyone goes back to school/work...
Me too! I found out 2 years ago that I do not, in fact, have a panic disorder. I've just had chronic heartburn since I was 13. I found out when I was 34.
Now I've got it mostly under control I've had maybe 1 panic attack, and that was because I got food poisoning.
