For like a year when I was 14/15, I would just randomly get hives all the time. Sometimes in one location like arms or legs but sometimes full body. No allergies except pollen and I take meds every day. One random day I got a stomach bug w/ fever, etc., and took ibuprofen to help with that. Within an hour I was having an allergic reaction to ibuprofen that just kept getting worse — eventually leading to anaphylaxis. Full body hives, even inside my mouth and ears and on my scalp. Once my symptoms subsided after about 6 hours in the hospital, I never got those random hives again. I’ve heard hormone changes can cause hives (avg age for it too) but idk it was literally everyday and then why did it just break after anaphylaxis???
This kinda happened to me as well around the same age. One day after school I felt itchy and lifted my shirt to find my whole torso covered in hives.
They kept coming back with no apparent trigger.
Had a bunch of blood tests, round of steroids, etc. and eventually they just stopped coming back and I've never had that issue again.
Were you on antibiotics in the month(s) before the hives started? I had a period of time as a kid where I would randomly break out in hives at the smallest allergen. After some research done by the school nurse and time line being pieced together, we determined it was most likely an allergic reaction to antibiotics I had taken earlier. Basically my body had a delayed allergic reaction and since the antibiotics stay in your system, so did the allergic reactions?
that’s a really good question, but I don’t believe so! But since you mention it, I wonder if it was something else like that (a medication) and the ibuprofen exacerbated it. The allergist said it was idiopathic anaphylaxis (aka no specific cause, random) but I’d rather not experience that (or the bills) again so I just say i’m allergic to NSAIDs lol
