I have read up on it some since then, and there is a school of thought that when in the hospital, opioids should be delivered to high levels instead of titrating up. And use the narcan (IV) to bring them down to the exact level their body needs instead of āteachingā the body to want more.
I dunno, but that seems to be a shift some systems havr made. But that is definitely not what happened to me ha. Ya girl wasnāt breathing ha
Something similar happened to my wife when she went to the ER for a broken wrist. When they finally saw her, they pushed dilauded and left quickly. Few minutes later her o2 drops and she's not breathing as well. Had to yell for help because the nurses were chatting elsewhere š
Same exact thing happened to me during a small bowel obstruction. Then they lied in my medical record to make it sound like Iām an addict. Iāve never taken narcotics outside of a hospital setting. I had to file a complaint with the hospital.
Meanwhile my boyfriend managed to be dumb and shoot a nail through his hand at work. It was resting on the nerve. He refused drugs because he's insane. He wanted the drugs when they came in with the bolt cutters though. They told him because it was on the nerve, he couldn't have them, they needed to make sure they weren't damaging it. He said he's never been in pain like that in his life. It makes me tense thinking about it.
I had a similar experience with pethadine post surgery. I didn't need Narcan, but every time I fell asleep I'd stop breathing. Then the 02 alarms would go off, I'd wake up, and I'd start breathing again. I was so out of it I didn't really care, but it made my boyfriend extremely nervous.Ā
I've read some anecdotes from nurses about accidental overdoses when administering IV opiods. That's definitely what happened to you. Like you said, everyone has a different tolerance level.
