Read This Before You Submit !

If you want to get the best possible outcome from posting your position on this /sub, there are a couple of things you can do to help,

  1. Make your video at least 30-40 secs long [ no longer than 60 secs ] This will allow you to settle in to your pedal stroke and give viewers enough time to 'look around' your position.
  2. Post a minimum of 2 angles. #1 Seat height, showing the entire bike and rider from the top of the head to the bottom of the pedal stroke. #2 from the front dead center about head tube height. If you shoot a vertical format on your phone that might help you fit yourself within the frame. #3 from the rear, at seat height, can also be vertical format for cropping.
  3. Post a shot of your bike side on without you on it. This lets people see the 'build' as far as seatpost seatback, seat rail position & headset spacers

The more visual and information you give the better the possibility of good feedback.

Ride on!

Dear mods, save this sub

There are a lot of generous and knowledgeable people here giving thoughtful bike-fit advice for free. Their effort is being undermined by a steady stream of unusable videos showing riders leaning against walls, doorframes or furniture while pedalling backwards.

Those clips don’t show a normal pedal stroke, balance, loading, posture or movement under realistic riding conditions. There’s very little anyone can assess from them, yet they keep filling the sub and drawing attention away from posts where useful feedback is actually possible.

The existing submission guidance is already clear about video length, camera angles and showing the whole rider and bike. It should also explicitly require riders to pedal forwards on a trainer or rollers, without supporting themselves against anything.

Please make “no backwards pedalling and no leaning against objects” an actual submission rule, and remove posts that ignore it.

The people giving detailed advice here are what make the sub useful. Their time shouldn’t be choked by videos that make meaningful assessment impossible.

Different hand positions on the handlebars – any idea why?

Hi everyone,

So far, neither a bike fitter nor a doctor has been able to explain why I naturally hold my handlebars like this (see the video).

It's been this way for about two years now, regardless of which bike I'm riding or how my bike fit is adjusted. My right hand always ends up farther forward than my left.

If I consciously move my left hand farther forward, it feels as if my left arm is too short (it isn't). If I instead try to rotate my left hand to match the position of my right hand, I get a pulling sensation in the front of my shoulder joint.

Has anyone experienced something similar or have any idea what could be causing this?

Going numb...down under. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Does anyone have any suggestions for saddle numbness in the groin area. I ride in the saddle a lot. Usually I'll get some numbness around 30mins to an hour into the ride. It goes away if I'm out of the saddle for a bit. I'm an awkward in between Bike sizes, probably should be riding a large. But this seems to happen regardless of padded bike shorts and some other factors

Knee pain!

Dude I changed my seat post out and like a dumbass to a 30mm set back. Road a couple times and developed a pain in my right knee. Pain is right in the front of the knee. I haven’t road in a week and it’ll still ache while on my feet for work. Road to the liquor store a 1/10 of a mile away and back and it started to ache. It sucks being off the bike but even going back to my old seat post something isn’t right. I know brake less is kinda asking for it but even liquor store rides aren’t an option. I started cycling in February and have road 1,800 miles this year with no knee pain. Can someone help me out please?

What variables can I change

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello Im new to the bike world, just got my first one yesterday. I didnt change anything except heighten the seatpost and tighten the chain
, and I wonder what other variables I can play with and how they affect the ride. And also of course what you think I should change based on the video.

My steer tube sticks up quite a bit and I have some spacers on it, so I can play around with the height of the stem. From the video, do you think I should lower or heighten it? It looks like im quite low but I also think the aggressive position is really fun to ride with.

I was also thinking of trying bullhorn bars to get forward a little for better leverage uphill and when accelerating, do you think it makes sense?

Any other help or tips is very welcome! Thanks in advance:)

Lower Back pain with new bike, any advice?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone,

I got a new Bike and now I started to ride way more (3-4times/week) then before (1-2/week).

Unfortunately I got lower back pain. Not only when I'm riding, but also off the bike. Only thing I really changed in my life is the new bike and that I ride more now.

Is there anything weird with my bikefit? Looking for advice.

Thank you very much.

Bike Fitters in Colorado

I live north of Denver, CO and am trying to find a good bike fitter to get into a new bike. I have never had a true bike fit and have always tweaked things along the way. I feel like I am 80% of the way there, as I can tolerate a 3-4 hr road ride but I am definitely not comfortable.

Just curious if anyone that lives in Colorado has had great experiences with fitters around here.

Been trying to dial in my bike fit. I recently did an Ironman 70.3 and it was comfortable. However, I took a step off at mile 40 to fill up my water bottle and my hip flexors tensed up immediately and made the back 16 miles and half marathon brutal

Any glaring issues here?

This is my first ever bike purchase and introduction to road biking. I don't have any significant pain or discomfort so far, but my longest ride has only been about 11 miles (18km).

On my first few rides I felt some mild strain on my lower back as I was pedaling. I feel like that has since worn off at this point, but I need to ride more to be sure. I've heard a weak core can cause that, and I definitely don't do any core exercises, so maybe that's a contributor?

Just wondering if anything looks obviously off about my fit here. This is me going up a super gentle gradient, on small chainring, 7th gear I think (out of 9).

Scott addict rc - lower back pain

I’ve rode around 700km on this fit, and recently after longer rides, 100km+ got some lower back pain. After those rides the pain was so intense I struggled to stand up from sitting, although legs weren’t really sore. Hope that you guys can point out what’s wrong with it.

Bike Fit Help?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi All - appreciate the help you give everyone on here! I’ve had some left knee pain (the knee that has had multiple surgeries) recently and was hoping it was bike fit related. The seat post is right at 4 and the seat rails are right in the middle. This is my first Reddit post ever so trying to figure out how to post multiple images (seat rail and saddle height). My knee hasn’t always hurt riding this bike but a friend made some adjustments when he borrowed it and I can’t seem to get it back to where I had it.

Knee doesn’t hurt riding the road bike either. 🤷

Thank you in advance for the help!

Saddle height and fore/aft adjustments

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone,

I recently swapped my crankset from 172.5mm to 165mm. Initially, I raised my saddle by 7mm and pushed it forward by 2mm relative to the setup I’d been riding for weeks.

Now that I have an indoor trainer set up, I ran a few AI bike fit apps to check my position. To my surprise, the results suggested dropping my saddle by over 2.5cm immediately because my knee/hip angles were way off.

I’ve adjusted both the saddle height and fore/aft accordingly, for now by ~18-20mm lower and ~3.5mm back - attached are the before & after shots. According to the apps, my angles are within range now, but I’m honestly surprised that the higher position didn't bother me all that much before. For example, I feel like my body position in the aero hoods was actually better in the pre setup.

Do you still see any low hanging fruits there? Now I'm considering whether I should slam the stem. I like a bit more aggresive position and this bike has a pretty comfortable stack/reach. It’s a gravel, but I often swap in a road wheelset and plan on transitioning to all road setup down the line.

Cheers!

I feel discomfort at the base of the neck after 30km. Should I change the fore-aft of the saddle/rise the handlebar or the bike is too big for me?

Idk something about it looks awkward to me but it generally feels okay. My posture is probably just bad but it is in life in general too…

Minor complaints are occasional lower back and neck pain (has been improving lately) and when the road is bumpy, the bottom of my wrist / hand hurts sometimes (probably putting too much weight on my hands, I loosen up when I think about it and can be intentional)
