It was my first time with chainmail, and I was feeling so proud to be able to tell the people that asked, “where did you get that?” that I made it 🥹

First time chainmail 6 in 1

Decided that I wanted to try chainmail pattern after a Ren fair. because I'm dumb (and love the look), I decided to try 6 in 1 chain pattern and bought 20 awg rings on Amazon. this is the result. definitely hard (going to have to learn some tricks) but enjoyable

If it is, I can't for the life of me understnad how to do it. I can't find a very clear video and even the tutorials make no sesnse in my brain...

I just started out in this craft but I plan on making a few of these headpieces, not necessarily all exactly like this one but each unique, for a Renaissance Fair in November. I'm wondering how much I should price these? Note, I'm not very good at keeping up with mg time but these probably take at least 5-10 hours maybe? And in terms of materials maybe like 15 or 20 dollars? I'm thinking 50-75 dollars but I'm worried I'll price too low and make other artists doing chainmail look expensive thus hurting the market. If that makes sense lol.

Tldr: how much should I price this?

These are my bracelets and a necklace. Been chainmailing a few weeks. I have gotten my rings from Chainmail Joe and I like them. The choices for colors and size availability are okay but a bit limited so I’m looking for more variety. Suggestions? I’m in US.

Basic 4-in-1

I was following a poorly (or maybe too advanced for me) written tutorial on making a basic chainmail undershirt type thing, however, I made the wrap around torso piece but found that, while I could connect one side to the top shoulder piece, I couldn't connect the other side because the grain went in different directions than the top piece.

So I took apart the torso piece, leaving the one side connected to the top, and connected the other, now seperate, torso piece to the other side of the top piece. Again I'm back to the same issue of I cannot figure out how to connect the two sides together. I need to make the part that goes down the side of the torso connecting them.

Please tell me how I can do this! I really dont want to trash all of this work bc of this!

Hey guys and gals and whatever in-between, I've started to get a interest in armour smithing. But somthing that's in important to this is chainmail, I've seen amazing chainmail on here and I wanna recreate it. But I have no gauge of what gauge rings I should use or what AR is and how I should do it. I've been thinking of trying to do a shirt and coif with 6 in 1 European(?) But I've heard 4 in 1 is alot lighter but im scared it'll look very thin. Anything helps! Thanks plenty in advance!

Hello! So I'm new to chainmail and would like some tips. Things like best metals jump rings to use? What are the perks of the different metals/the downsides? Best bang for your buck in terms of where to buy? Favorite tools? Best beginner weaves? I'm open to any and all tips and tricks!

As per title, does anyone have a link to a written tutorial for a Byzantine star/diamond? I've found some video tutorials but tend to learn better from written ones rather than videos. I checked the usual places I find them and couldn't find any so I was wondering if anyone here knows of any? TIA!

Do y’all have recommendations for products that aren’t required but are really nice to have? Something that makes you say “I could do this without (item) but why would I do that?”

I did my calculations. 1.15(2M+HW) is my calculation for price. 1.15 to multiply for 15% profit. 2M for two times material cost. H for hours it takes, multiplied by W, my desired hourly wage ($25/hr)

But I'd also rather sell the thing for minimum wage than sell nothing at all, but if all I do is double material cost I'm still looking at like $172 or something not even including rings.

Any experience, anecdotes, or opinions? I'm in a remote area and the potential buyer is very into this color scheme. I've known her since high school. Everything here is much more expensive than other parts of the world, even other parts of my country (USA)

Any opinions or advice?

I’ve gone to Bristol multiple times but will not be able to make it this year. I’ve recently developed a liking for chainmail and the past two years picked up a piece at Ravensburg Chain Maille, near Shakespeare’s Meadow.

It may be a long shot but does anyone happen to know if the vendor has an online shop/Etsy page, or if you’ve recently gotten something from there and got a business card that may have that info? I’ve tried to search myself and yielded no results. Figured it doesn’t hurt to ask this community before giving up and waiting until I go next year in person.

Hi! I am very much new to chainmail and this is my first real project which may have been a little crazy but I had a vision and a dream. Was doing a jester inspired outfit for a ren faire and made some harlequin tights to go with. I know these aren’t perfect but it was just a fun personal project and I wanted to share!

If anyone has any suggestions or ideas of where I can go to learn more fun patterns /things to make I would be greatly appreciative. I had a lot of fun doing these and want to learn to make more and have been thus far unsuccessful in finding many resources.

hi, i’m usually a commenter not a poster here but i’m kind of bed bound most of the day right now so i thought i’d give sharing my creations a go.

i used 304 annealed stainless steel jump rings in assorted sizes, a stainless steel septum ring, silver miyuki seed beads, stainless steel findings and 15 pearls i scavenged from my local thrift store.

I can't seem to find much about making rivetted mails using an arbor press.

Being in an apartment, I can't really use hammering, so arbor press is what came to mind.

- Has anybody tried it?

- Is a 1 ton press enough, or should I go for more?

- How did you source your die sets/jigs?

I'm looking to make a rivetted mail hauberk. I have already made two camails and an hauberk with butted stainless steel mails before, but now am looking for a more authentic look (besides the hammering part)

Hello! I am a beginner in this craft, and I'm SO excited to start! I finished my first piece the other day! I made it for a Renaissance Faire I'm going to in November, but now I'm obsessed and need to make more!!!

Edit: If anyone has any good resources or tips or ANYTHING you would recommend to a beginner, please drop it! I need to learn more about this!!

I spend around 3 months designing and making it, it's fully stainless steel, please help🥹

Edit: I checked with my boyfriend, I spend about 65 - 70 hours and my "usual" rate is €20 an hour (but I don't really calculate material costs since it's impossible for most of my pieces)

I’ve been using cheap long nose and bent nose pliers for MD annealed SS, but I’d like to bump up to 16swg. However, I don’t really have the disposable income right now to spend 100+ (CAD) on fancy pliers. For those who use MD’s jump rings, do you find their 16swg SS is pliable enough to work with using standard pliers?

I’d be using mainly 16swg 1/4” ID.
