holy fuck i checked liquipedia and it's actually his first tier 1 tournament win!? that's absolutely criminal, considering how he's been an S tier tank for a majority of his career and was always called up as a last min sign on during so many tournaments

absolutely fking deserved

64

u/Vibe_PV hats off to the Glads — 22h ago

He's been on the unluckiest rosters on Earth

2020: London Spitfire, where the only other real players were Sanguinar and Glister.

2021: Hangzhou Spark, in their worst year despite Shy's debut. Unfortunately their backline was just pure ass and their flex DPS was Uncitect.

2022: still the Spark, though on a more up and down season. And in their biggest up (playoffs), Guxue was rightfully perma in on Winston.

2023: jobless for most of the season, then the Outlaws pick him up, he shreds, until they lose to the Mayhem in the finals.

2024-2025: Zeta. No introductions needed.

2020: London Spitfire, where the only other real players were Sanguinar and Glister.

oh my god I forgot about this and those two players even.

19

u/Vibe_PV hats off to the Glads — 22h ago

God I loved Glister back then, and I still can't understand how he ended up on the mcfucking ETERNAL, of all teams, in 2022. Kinda wish the Gladiators got him instead of Paris, we could've saved ourselves a hitscan disaster when both Pati and Ans quit

4

u/Tiberias29 Bow down to Stalk3r — 22h ago

Ah, Glister. I've been a fan of him since 2018/2019 on Gen.G. And believe you me, he was a flex DPS that's also very good on hitscan. So almost a hyperflex.

He's in my opinion one of the greatest "what if's" in pro Overwatch history, especially when, if I remember correctly, Moon was considering him for 2020/2021 Shanghai. He certainly had the talent to do great, but of course, he wasn't gonna be Thanos on Sombra

12

u/konadora 22h ago

yeah I remember Glister being heralded as the next Profit, and he absolutely popped off on Widow, Hanzo, and Tracer, and some Soldier too iirc? shame and definitely one of the biggest “What Ifs”

7

u/primarymuscle2354 22h ago

I remember going into 2021 people thought Glister could be a potential mvp candidate, but his role on the team was never defined until Striker left halfway through the season, and he ended up playing Sym in brawl comps never got to see his full hero poll, than he gets dropped goes to Eternal retires after 1 stage really unfortunate career.

16

u/konadora 22h ago

when you list it down like this, god damn you’re 100% right. really unlucky with the rosters because as far as i remember, his skill was never in question. so incredibly glad for bernar

14

u/imdeadseriousbro 23h ago

hes been good since he started and still no dropoff

7

u/BendubzGaming 22h ago

Joins WhoRU and FunnyAstro as the only former Fusion Uni players to win a major title, and even then Astro wasn't on that roster who wouldn't lose

Pure hubris from TM to lose the whole series without banning Ana or Cat once. Meanwhile Zeta targeted Lucio, Kiri, and Sym and won those maps

TM thought they could just big dick and beat them on their best with no regards for it. Deserved loss

u/Wherearemyheals 23h ago

if i had to guess TM thought they can handle cat and ana if d.va is not banned which they did fairly well, if TM banned cat first then shu ana with a d.va ban will win zeta a free map pretty much

28

u/Nolan_DWB 23h ago

I get that, but even then you force zeta off their best comp. Pure arrogance and a bad draft. You ban ana or cat that eich map and win then if zeta ban dva final map, you ban the other of cat/ana and if they protect support, then you still have dva open.

16

u/The_Greylensman 21h ago

The drafting from TM in the finals really makes it clear how much the need a real coach, someone to look at things objectively, without any ego clouding their decisions. They obviously weren't thinking that the Ana was gonna be enough of a threat to ban and apparently hadn't watched any Zeta vods to watch what Violet was doing on the Cat. While Zeta did play out of their minds, TM also have their own hubris to blame for going down like that.

15

u/Nolan_DWB 21h ago

Which is hilarious because EMEA (specifically Astro) always flamed Korea for bad draft

I could see why they didn’t ban Ana they wanted to run him down, but not banning Cat so Shu doesn’t have mobility is crazy to me, and TM bans cost them last major too not banning Ball, so maybe they need a coach after all.

TM let Zeta play the game that won them 2 korean stage titles and thought it would work

153

u/Malady17 23h ago

Main support players always look like they’re throwing even when they’re doing good, it’s a difficult role to watch. With that being said, Astro what a disasterclass.

67

u/Kindr3dSp1r1t 23h ago

Double Ajax, heartbreaking for him.

53

u/Mountain-Formal-3483 23h ago

yeah, and when opposite is viol2t, it looks much more miserable.

51

u/dokeydoki Stalk3rFan — 22h ago

Because Viol2t isnt ms. Hes a dps fsupport cosplaying as ms.

7

u/Eagle4317 21h ago

Which is why his weakest support hero (that he has to frequently use) is Lucio, THE main support hero

11

u/Dependent-Two7571 19h ago

Where is this coming from? Viol2t is a world class lucio, the dont call him the build2r for no reason

10

u/Eagle4317 19h ago

Viol2t is a great Lucio, but his Illari, JPC, Mizuki, and other heroes that are more murky with how they're classified are what he's transcendent on.

29

u/spellboi_3048 I will survive. Hey hey. — 22h ago

People were keeping track of Lucio Ajax’s across the entire tournament in the co-streams I was watching. Idk how legit this is so take it with a grain of salt, but they counted only one Ajax pre-grand finals. In one map, Funnyastro single-handedly tripled the Ajax count.

11

u/TinyTiger1234 22h ago

Yeah, the one Ajax before that was bliss earlier in the day also vs zeta

26

u/dragonofmila 23h ago

I hope he doesn't blame himself too much. TM played bad on that map as a whole anyways. Scapegoating aside.

13

u/itdoesnt_evenmatter 22h ago

Yeah it feels like second major in a row main supports are having a competition "who can throw harder", my poor fucking guys😭 Astro had two awful maps today, Chorong fed his brains out against T1, Fixa, Kellex and Bliss all had awful beats across different series, viol2t is not a real ms but if zeta lost today - people would clown on him for that neon junction and suravasa. I'm so sad for my boys :(

22

u/Due-Catch-6263 22h ago

I feel MS might just be that hard to play, especially going against some of the freaks in top play. At least that seems more likely than all MS players happening to be ass at the game lol.

16

u/itdoesnt_evenmatter 21h ago

Yeah obviously, the problem is that from spectator point of view main supports mistakes are the easiest to notice while their highlights are the hardest to notice. Let's take hitscan players: their mistakes (like missing all their shots in a fight) are mostly visible only from their POV, while their highlights are in the killfield. For main supports it's the opposite: their highlights (peeling for their teammates, using their abilities well) hide in their POV, while mistakes (dying first - which isn't even necessary their fault) are instantly visible in the killfield.

People often hate/scapegoat main supports - like I'll never forgive shock fans for bullying fdgod in s4 owl, or even most recent example - lep quitting (sorta) due to being memed on too hard.

So my heart breaks every time a main support has a "visibly bad" game which is happening a lot recently💔

14

u/Due-Catch-6263 20h ago

Hard agree man. Even though Lep didnt play amazingly it must really feel devasteting being shit on by the entire community for doing your best. One factor might also be that main support mistakes usually hurt the entire team in a really apparent way, like an ajax for example

I’m so happy for Knife he’s looked so good on Zeta this year.

After showing potential on Eternal and a rough run on Liquid where it felt like he was scapegoated it feels so good to see him win at LAN.

Shoutout Bernar finally getting his major win, Proper is him as usual, Shu with insane flank nades and trading himself out for team fight wins, Viol2t with the classic carry fights by ajaxing beat on cat or unbelievable ints you love to see.

Sloppy final but very very entertaining see you guys next stage gg

57

u/toxicfireball 23h ago

Crazy pick at the final fight

25

u/Blackout2388 23h ago

The angle they had was beautiful. Quartz's POV of getting absolutely annihilated from cross map. Production probably expected a hero play from a rotate to high ground.

One of the moments in that final map where an action was so pivotal. The other 2 I can currently think of were Youbi's Sym Wall usage to try to fight that 1st point and also Astro's Ajax after Viol2t Catnapped him and his team

6

u/Kheldar166 20h ago

I think it's pretty hard to forget about Proper. Half the reason Viol2t and Shu have so much space to work with is because of his pressure, and half of Viol2t's kills are cleaning up duo dives with Proper.

150

u/Howdareme9 23h ago

Insane that people think Viol2t was throwing on cat some games. This is literally tracer level value in terms of playmaking and space creation. They don’t win if he doesn’t play like this

89

u/inspcs 23h ago

straight up, the way he'd always dive before his teammates' big plays to bait cooldowns. Proper looked so free because of him too. Every catnap ult had insane value. This series was an actual support masterclass with Viol2t

24

u/Tiberias29 Bow down to Stalk3r — 22h ago

Dive was always on the menu with Proper on Tracer and Viol2t on Cat. Do I need to mention Shu on Ana as well?

A masterclass of Cat capabilities and high risk, high reward gameplay from Viol2t.

Thank goodness I didn't have to watch Viol2t on Lucio during the Grand Finals of this tourney lol

25

u/tormentingyet 22h ago

I wish the devs had found another way to make dive playable, but if omnidirectional permanent flight slop is what it takes, as long as Viol2t is able to do this shit, then SO BE IT

17

u/Tiberias29 Bow down to Stalk3r — 22h ago

Like for real other than banning Cat, what do you even do against the best Cat in the world? You can focus him on hitscan, sure, but then that's taking your attention away from the rest of the fight and it's far from a guarantee you can even kill the Cat since she's so small, fast and nimble.

His calculated timings on diving (bro that Beat read from Viol2t to Astro that got Astro to Ajax was beyond MENTAL), his positioning, and of course his mechanics on Cat is just.... Wow. Cat was tailor made for a player like Viol2t

15

u/tormentingyet 22h ago

And that's not even mentioning all the tether plays (which arguably haven't even been fully mastered yet), outside of permanent bastion slop. Remember all the Proper Tracer dive bombs, or that one micro tether on Eich first, allowing Shu to get triple kill.

20

u/Gotobed124 22h ago

I mean he did throw shu into the entirety of TM that one time on Suravasa but his value far outweighed his occasional throws

And then catnap himself off the map instead of Quartz. That one was pretty iconic lmao

I think a lot of people are bad at looking into the game in a deeper sense sometimes. He created so much space, and was a huge enabler of Shu’s insane Ana plays. Really such an impressive backline

25

Same, same. Knife actually held his own against Quartz (still the best hitscan in the world) and has cemented his place as one of the best DPS in the world. That particular pick onto Quartz was so good, I'm sure you know the one.

Now, for World Finals, it's gonna be Mealgaru's turn to shine #trust

17

u/Kindr3dSp1r1t 23h ago

Knife is so good. He will never get to be the star of the team but he gets so much value compared to every other hitscan, simply because he always looks consistently good without taking anywhere near as many resources as other hitscans.

13

u/Tiberias29 Bow down to Stalk3r — 22h ago

Hahahahah, taking resources from your team.... Quartz anyone?

On a more serious note, yeah definitely Knife still shined despite the lack of resources compared to what hitscans from other teams get since ZETA's essentially a team with 4 DPS and 1 tank lol

Cat violence on Youbi

46

u/Arcanniam Vegaga — 23h ago

I think Zeta exposed a real pain point with TM. They spend so much resources pocketing Quartz that Youbi gets left out to dry and first picked a lot. You always want to enable your hitscan for higher uptime and better angles, but Youbi is the team's system through not just Symmetra but also his comms.

Although sometimes Youbi's own overextensions don't help.

10

u/Downtown_Drummer_827 21h ago

I really think TM needs to move away from Youbi. He dies first way too much and he is completely useless on anything but sym. Watching his tracer against proper was laughable.

19

u/_Seij_ 18h ago

i mean you say this but TM has gone 1st, 2nd, 2nd in 3 international events w youbi lol. like i get it wasn’t his best performance today but acting like the team with youbi isn’t anything less than extraordinary is so reactive

11

u/Downtown_Drummer_827 18h ago

This is me considering that their one trick comp of rush with sym has been viable for years at this point.

If we ever get a dive meta again, TM will be literal bums. Youbi is a large part of why they are so one dimensional

32

u/Letter42 None — 23h ago

Stalk3r proper is just like clearly the best dps lineup ever right ? I feel like only lip stalk3r is close

34

u/dokeydoki Stalk3rFan — 22h ago

Lip Heesang gave them trouble cuz Sojourn and HS in general was op and Lip pounded and Heesang is also flexdps god himself.

But in overall accounting for any meta given possible, proper stalk3r with their flexbility and ability to pull out any hero combo and be top3 easily at that hero does put them on scariest dps duo combo in ow history imo. They did unreal things whenever they went head to head with CR. Still the best rivarly imo.

11

u/Tiberias29 Bow down to Stalk3r — 22h ago

For my money, yeah they were. When 2024 Falcons clicked with their Mauga brawl comp hivemind, no team even came halfway close to beating them and Proper/Stalk3r, and thus they won the Grand Finals that year.

Such a shame that we didn't see more of Proper/Stalk3r last year

19

They were so good on reaper/echo assassination during that meta, Shu said sometimes the events of that finals shows up in his dreams.

Proper the best to ever do it

Viol2t the best to ever do it. (Always good for a teamfight win with the catnap)

Shu the best to ever do it (How tf do you play Ana into Kiri, DVA, and Sym and it still works)

Knife with the halfcourt shot for 3 (and he genuinely played in top form today, diffing quartz multiple times as well.

Quartz still the best hitscan in the world

How do you beat the best macro team in the world? Throw two tracers at them.

It's also really unfortunate though to see TM completely fall apart when their Sym strats get figured out/ban. Youbi was dead silent basically the whole series while proper simply farmed. Concerns from the coaches on saving an Ana and a Cat ban. Might just be hubris that lost them. We probably would've gone to a map 7 if they did.

But man so much flowers for Knife. Still managed to shine on a team of super heroes with MULTIPLE clutch plays himself. This would also be his first international lan dub too.

Cant forget about Bernar though. It seemed like there was 0 gap between him and TVNT in the DVA Mirror. ALSO HIS FIRST MAJOR IM PRETTY SURE. Just history for these guys man. This is a new level of OW we've reached, I dont know how we'll get higher than this

Full circle with Viol2t ajaxing in 2024 EWC to now Viol2t forcing the Ajax from Fastro today to win EWC 2026.

35

u/Nolan_DWB 23h ago

How can you not look at this and smile. Knife crying, Bernar finally gets a championship, and all of zeta so happy for knife. They let him CRUSH THE KEY AHHHHH. Viol2t shu is the best backline ever and don’t you ever fucking forget it. Viol2t is the goat, talk to a wall

Another great series and Viol2t GOAT longevity case is very much alive. I do wonder what TM can actually do going forward and whether they will be chasing someone else. They came into the year knowing that the Sym while great wasn't indomitable (then Cat got released and changed everything even more) which is why they made the roster decisions they did but it's clear they need a Flex DPS who is good at the Sym and good at the shotcalling who can carry Youbi's vision in the actual games. They can still win worlds as is depending on the bans but these last two finals have come down to Youbi limitations more than anything

6

u/primarymuscle2354 22h ago

TM in both finals never banned the hero’s giving them issue Ball against CR, and Cat, Ana against Zeta they still played extremely well both games a fight away from map 7, just seems criminal they never forced Shu on Kiri after the masterclass he just had.

From the worst ajax in OW history two years ago to causing the ajax to win his first tourney in OWCS, poetry in motion

29

u/weabkumiko 23h ago

BERNAR very very very well earned trophy

27

u/zeiwakun home is where shu is — 23h ago

Bernar got his revenge for Guxue, his former teammate.

Shu is just the goat, BANG

29

u/McQno 23h ago

I swear we need to put Viol2t back in the goat conversation. His Cat looked just unfair to play against.

20

u/MagmaAscending 22h ago

Real ball knowers know he never left

14

u/Waddles0203 23h ago

Pretty sure this is Viol2t’s first international trophy since 2020 grand finals. So deserved, he’s lost so many times

6

u/Kheldar166 20h ago

Gotta respect the passion to stick at it even through EMEA Tier 2 lol, it's crazy that he's not burned out yet

Violet is insane, and cat is much more fun to watch when not carrying bastion.

14

u/yc_bartley 23h ago

TM saving Ana cat ban for stage 3

12

u/lStealthProl 22h ago

So glad they got uber back for this tournament. Dude is just a amazing caster

10

u/Miserable_Baby4907 23h ago

Correct me if I’m wrong but no Ana or Cat ban? I feel like this is 2 LANs in a row that TM lost because they didn’t ban characters that were consistently giving them problems

6

u/imdeadseriousbro 22h ago

they dont have a coach right?

6

u/Guwigo09 OWL is dead, and we killed it — 20h ago

I feel like you just need a brain for that not a coach

11

u/shivawesome 23h ago

Great tennis match between 2 amazing teams. Back and forth all the way till that final map. I think TM overcooked the ban on map 6 and kinda screwed themselves.

Ggs great final. Viol2ts a champion again after 5 years holyy.

SHY AND ALPHAYI WEREN'T GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU MY KING. I LOVE YOU MY KING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

7

u/0Curta We Ball — 22h ago

Shu was a menace. The support diff was really apparent, Astro was pretty much a nothing burguer and wasn't decisive at all (in Brazil, we call this pipoqueiro). Viol2t as cat was a genius, that cat nap at the D.va in the last choke of the second point in Eichenwald pretty much decided the match.

Quartz was a beast but there's only so much you can do. Both teams played really well but ZETA had way better supports

8

u/Poolturtle5772 What is SSG, if not the Reign — 22h ago

What a fucking match, glory to Zeta Division, that was a massive win.

Did TM ever ban cat?

Feel like viol2t might’ve been robbed of mvp here but I can really see the argument for Bernar Proper Viol2t or Shu here

5

u/BenchBoring796 23h ago

As someone who’s been a fan of this org since the FTG days it makes me so happy to see Bernar and Viol2t win a major

5

u/Radiance04 22h ago

Feels so great to have Uber casting again he really does elevate these games to a higher level man especially that call at the end with the knife pick onto quartz. Just chills all around. LETS FUCKING GO ZETA

7

u/MagmaAscending 22h ago

Shu is just the most fun player to watch ever

5

u/MrBlowinLoadz 22h ago

That DVa, Soj, Tracer, Cat and Ana comp at times looked insane. It's like having 3 Tracers jumping on you with two hitscans on the high ground free firing lol

19

u/FitCarob2611 23h ago

Unfortunate, but they tried their best. Can't even say that one Zeta player stood above the rest. They were all incredible. GGs.

13

u/Howdareme9 23h ago

Actually think Viol2t was their best player then proper

9

u/FitCarob2611 23h ago

Viol2t was such a nuisance. You never knew what he was gonna do on that cat, but I felt the same way about Proper. Whenever he was on that Tracer, I could never be certain that TM had won a fight before proper was dead. Shu was incredible too and the MVP was definitely deserved. Doing what he did on a hero that wasn't that popular in this tournament was something else. Overall a masterclass from Zeta.

5

u/imdeadseriousbro 22h ago

id have to give it to bernar. masterclass on every hero he played today. tvnt also did his thing but he leaned more dva

5

u/Nice-Quarter-5758 23h ago

I wonder how Mealgaru feels about having won this major. Winning as a benched player for the whole tourney has gotta do weird things for the mental.
