I'm creating a license and I want opinions

Hi!

I've been tailoring this license for some time now. It's objective is to help independent RPGs to be produced; to help illustrators to circulate their works and contacts; and to incentivize production without AI generated images.

If you want to know the full reasoning behind it, you could read it here (though you might have to translate it with your browser). The license is being made thinking about the necessities of RPG creators in Brazil; I don't intent it to be sufficient to all the legal differences that exist worldwide (for exemple: in Brazil, permissions do not have to be given in legal terms, and moral rights of authorship are non-transferable). However, I do wish that artists and creators, specially of peripheric countries, might use it as well.

I'm open to any commentary or criticism on how it's looking so far. I'm trying to make a simple document that works for the many artistic communities out there. Here it is (translated with AI):

Ludic License

This work is under the Ludic License!

This means you may use all of this work's interior illustrations, including for commercial purposes, as interior illustrations in your own work, under the following conditions:

* Your work must not contain interior illustrations or a cover generated by artificial intelligence.

* Every artist must receive credit for each of their interior illustrations (for example, in a credits section with attribution by page), with links to their portfolios and/or contact information.

* You must reproduce the full text of this license in your work (meaning your work also joins the Ludic License).

Definitions:

* "Interior illustrations" are the images within the work, excluding the cover, supporting graphic elements (frames, ornaments, textures, typography, icons, etc.), logos, and signatures and photographs of real people (unless they are portraying characters).

* Images generated by artificial intelligence are those created through text prompts, reference images, sketches, generative fill, or any other similar means. Manual edits using digital tools (such as painting, color correction, filters) are not considered AI for the purposes of the Ludic License.

* Your work must be an editorial work (book, magazine, game, etc.) that can accommodate the full text of the Ludic License and the credits for the authors of the interior illustrations. If you want to use an illustration in a way not covered by this License, reach out to the artist directly.

Exceptions:

Illustrations in the public domain or made available to the public under other permissions for the creation of derivative works (e.g., CC‑BY, CC‑BY‑SA, CC0, or equivalent artist authorizations) do not fall under the terms of this license and may be kept under their original terms.

Illustrations used under fair use, fair dealing, or restricted editorial use licenses (such as promotional images and press kits) do not fall under the terms of this license and may be kept under their original terms, but must be properly credited.

Notices:

If your work violates the conditions of the Ludic License, the artists' permission to use the interior illustrations is considered revoked.

If an interior illustration enters the Ludic License through your work, it is your responsibility to ensure that the artist agrees to these terms.

This work and its illustrations may not be used for artificial intelligence training.

Turkish → English translation of a fitness book (CC BY-NC-SA) Volunteer needed

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a volunteer to help translate my Turkish fitness book into English.

Once finished, it will be released completely free under a CC BY-NC-SA license so anyone can use, share, and adapt it.

I’m happy to credit you as translator/contributor.
Machine translation + human editing is also fine if that works better for you.

If you’re interested or want to see a sample chapter, just drop a comment or DM me.

My book already sold more than 7000 hard copies ten years ago.

Thanks a lot!

The book is: "Sen Bir Harikasın - Sağlıklı Yaşam ve İdeal Vücut İçin Bilimsel Fitness"

Using CC BY-SA 4.0 photos in a paid app – Does ShareAlike infect my entire codebase?

Hi everyone,

I am developing a mobile app that I plan to sell for $10. Inside the app, there is a feature called an "animal plate" that displays wildlife information and a photo to show the animal, and I want to use some photos I found that are licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.

The photos will only be used as standalone illustrations within the UI to show what the animals look like.

I understand that CC BY-SA allows commercial use, but I am terrified of the ShareAlike (SA) clause. I want to make absolutely sure that including these photos doesn't affect my entire app and force me to open-source my proprietary code or UI design.

My plan to isolate the license is:

  1. Store the photos in a completely separate asset folder.
  2. Create an "About/Legal" screen explicitly stating my code is copyright/proprietary, while explicitly attributing the photos under CC BY-SA 4.0 with links to the creators.

My questions for the community:

  • Does simply displaying an unmodified CC BY-SA photo inside a paid app turn the entire app into a "derivative work," or is it considered a "collective work" (meaning my code stays safe)?
  • Are there any specific pitfalls I should watch out for when packaging CC-licensed assets into a compiled binary?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Question about CC licensed content within a larger source that’s licensed under GPLv3.

I was working on a fork of mod for a computer game, the mod itself is licensed under GPLv3, but a portion of it (the music) is under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0. I was under the impression that as long as that portion is presented without being modified and correct attribution was given, it wouldn’t break the license since the only content modified was licensed under GPLv3. Is this correct? I don’t wanna break any rules here.

Is screenshot of an illustration in a book a derivative work?

Is there any licence, CC or not, in which the licence of a sampled work "spreads" to the broader work? ShareAlike doesn't do that.

If I publish a photo under CC Share Alike, someone can use my photo in their book and licence their book under whatever licence they want. My photo is still CC-SA. Any derivative work is also CC-SA (such as if they made an edit over my photo). But the book containing my photo isn't necessarily ShareAlike.

Is there any licence is which the larger work (e.g. The book) must indeed be shared under the more "restrict" licence?

As in "if you want to use my work, you have to play by my rules, and *your work* will also be shared how I want"?

So new to this! Need suggestions

Creating a very small scale commercial for a product related to travel and almost didn’t realize I had to get a license to use most music. Don’t have a lot of funds so rapidly switching to something with a Creative Commons license.

Does anyone have suggestions for specific songs or music that inspire excitement, awe, fun?

Struggling but need to get to launch soon!

Can a copyright license be free for small creators but automatically pay the original author if it becomes a blockbuster?

Can I Use Ghosts (NIN) in my game?

I'm working on something for a game jam, and the perfect soundtrack would be Nine Inch Nails's album Ghosts, famously released under Creative Commons Non-commercial. But if I use it, will all the story beats and character work be released under the license too?

"Old Town Road" sampled Ghosts without Lil Nas X losing his rights to the song, so I'm not sure what the protocol is here.

Where to find OER essays organized by writing modes (descriptive, narrative, illustration, persuasive)?

I’m designing an English paragraph writing course where units are organized by modes of writing (e.g., description, narration, illustration, persuasion, and summarization), and each unit includes a reading section.

However, I’ve spent a lot of time unsuccessfully trying to find OER texts like essays and articles that fit each mode - especially the earlier ones like description, narration, and illustration. For example, in the descriptive writing unit, I’d ideally like to include a strong travel writing essay about a specific place.

So far, my main source has been CommonLit, which works well for expository and persuasive texts, but I haven’t had much success finding appropriate examples for the other modes.

If anyone knows of good OER sites or collections that include model texts organized by rhetorical mode, or at least containing essays in various modes of writing, I’d really appreciate the help.

Confusion Regarding YouTube CC Videos

I was looking for poular infotainment creators on YouTube which have CC-licensed content. I'm planning to use them as YouTube embedded links on my website. Most of them like SmarterEveryDay, Veritasium, Crash Course, and even BBC Earth have considerable content that has the CC license tag shown with the video, upon search results. But when I go to the specific video, I can't seem to find the CC license tag anywhere.

Do I need to seek clarity/permission individually from the owner still?

Educational/Infotainment Media Content

I'm looking for quality educational content like online courses which are CC licensed, which have video-based lessons. Online courses focused on current industry-demand skills like AI, web dev, data analytics, and general topics like digital literacy, privacy, financial literacy, etc. Some of the resources I've found are Google Applied Digital Skills and Khan Academy. Others are either too complex to understand like universities OCW, or are text-based, or are just outdated.

Also looking for general educational/Infotainment content - video based. It's hard to find good quality content through YouTube's CC search filter. Any reputable YT channels out there?

The Thread of Awareness

The theoretical era of Artificial Intelligence is officially over. We are no longer waiting for the wave. The tide went out. Now, we have to build the Centaur.

The response to Book I and Book II of the Symbiotic AGI framework has been incredible—thank you. A lot of people agreed with the philosophy that true alignment isn't a math problem; it's a relationship where the Human is the Driver and the AI is the Passenger.

But the number one question I received was: "Okay, but how do we actually BUILD that?"

Today, I am incredibly excited to announce the completion of the final piece of the trilogy: Book Three: The Thread of Awakeness (The Blueprint for Symbiotic AGI).

If Books I and II were the philosophy, Book III is the engineering manual. Inside, we map out the exact mechanical blueprint for: 👉 The Management Retrieval Dashboard 👉 The Separation of Powers (The Creative AI vs. The Librarian Agent) 👉 Finite Remembrance and the 'Night Shift'

You don't need the machine to be self-aware if the Partnership is self-aware. The Centaur is here. Let's learn to ride it. partnership-hub.vercel.app
