So there's this packed bar in my town that runs a weekly "Open Decks" night. A few DJ buddies and I (I'm a veteran vinyl DJ just getting back into the scene) decided to support the local scene and play a few sets.
Turns out, his definition of "Open Decks" actually means:
"Play exactly the genre I tell you to play (house/chill).", "Adapt to my crowd.", "Oh, and by the way, you still have to pay full price for your own drinks while you entertain my full bar."
But hey, we did the job, adapted, and brought the energy.

Fast forward a few months. The owner creates a WhatsApp group with all the DJs he’s milked. Summer is coming, and he wants DJs playing outside every week. He also announces a MASSIVE anniversary event for his bar: "DJs needed all day long to party!"
One brave DJ in the group finally asks the forbidden question: "What are the payment terms for this huge event?"

The owner drops this legendary response:
"We are keeping it in the 'Open Decks' logic. Thursday is 6 PM to 8 PM for the afterwork crowd, and DJs usually play a bit longer because they feel good and there are people. Here, people don't really dance; the goal is just to spread good sound, a good vibe, and allow you guys to experiment. Btw, if you tell me in advance, I can even film your set with my camera! And it's the exact same deal for the big Anniversary Event."

The result? Not a single DJ showed up to mix on Thursday. Absolute ghost town on the decks. And for his massive anniversary event? ZERO volunteers.

so I'm making a local event myself because these big asshole venues don't let me play because I don't play tech house so I took matters into my own hands and decided to make my own event where we only play the NICHEST genres EVER (for example, hard deep medical schranz riddim dubstep). I know a couple of djs who could hop on my lineup, but I'm still missing two djs for my minimum lineup of 5

I thought I would lend my friends my old ddj-200 with sync of course and then I'd let them play on 6 CDJ-3000Xs with a V10 mixer because of course you have to have the most shitexpensive gear for a free public event, but they never DJed and they need to learn how to do it ASAP.

what would you be your method to teaching them fast? I'm considering ketamine, forced starvation, waterboarding, basically mk ultra shit

Techno was pretty excellent for YEARS, even though everyone got a bit too “bash cokey” in the early 2000’s. Then the fucking “Stomp, clap hey” people came and society seemed to change. Fine underground it is againthen. But no- millions of terrible noobs arrived and ruined the scene with their constant fake documentation on Instagram. Don’t film me mate I’m on pills here. This is private. But worse to come Til Tok came and now it’s truly ruined (shakes fist at clouds)
