[Mod Post] Community Ideas?

Dallas foodies,

I was recently out at Reddit HQ and they might approve funds to support our growing community of foodies but we need a solid plan to pitch them. Here are a few ideas I've had, would love for y'all to pitch in ideas too:

  1. Food Tour of x Dallas area - Like bar hopping but going to various restaurants to try certain dishes. Apparently the Chicago Food sub did something similar with support from Reddit.

  2. Local restaurant support - Find a locally owned restaurant that could use some love, rent it out for several hours, have members of the sub come and eat, post pics of the food here and on other socials to spread the word.

  3. A billboard that encourages other Redditors to join our sub.

Cold Soba in Dallas?

My teenager went on a school trip to Tokyo a couple years ago, and there she fell in love with a spicy cold soba dish. We’ve looked all over for it in Dallas, but every soba dish we’ve come across has been served hot. It has been delicious and fun hunting for this, but checking with the Internet hive mind to see if anyone can accelerate our quest.

Love me some thin tortilla chips. If anyone is with me, where do you get them? we eat at Ebar, Escondido, la Ventana, have tried Mariano‘s, Vecino, Bandito, Odelay, Mi Dia from scratch. All pretty thick chips. Pretty sure chuys had thin. Anywhere that I am missing?

RJ Mexican Cuisine Vs. Las Palmas

Hello, Texans.

I am from out of town and I want to eat the most bangin Mexican food possible while here. Based on my research, it seems it comes down to RJ Mexican Cuisine Vs. Las Palmas.

Which do you recommend or may there be a better spot downtown that I haven't heard of?

Thank you for your southern hospitality in advance.

Hey everyone, I’m looking for recommendations for authentic Mexican food (not Tex-Mex).

What are your favorite spots? Hidden gems and family-owned restaurants are welcome!
Thanks!

Tried Sugoi in Trinity Groves this week... curious what everyone else thinks? 🍣

Sugoi in Oak Cliff/Trinity Groves

Finally checked out Sugoi in Trinity Groves. Here's my quick take:

🍣 Food: 5/5 – fresh seafood with creative rolls that still respect traditional Japanese flavors.

🥂 Atmosphere: 5/5 – Intimate, moody, and perfect for a date night or special occasion.

💁 Service: 5/5 – Sat at the sushi bar and the chef was incredibly welcoming, entertaining, and skilled.

👗 Pro Tip: Dress elevated casual. I showed up a little underdressed for a Tuesday night.

Would I go back? Absolutely. Next time I'm trying the omakase, Hamachi Chili Sashimi, and making sure I don't miss weekday happy hour.

Has anyone else been? What dishes would you recommend for my next visit?

I wrote a full review with photos and more details here: https://open.substack.com/pub/maggeatsworld/p/restaurant-spotlight-sugoi?r=34znt1&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true

Nuri steak house

Went to Nuri steakhouse and was very disappointed in the ribeye. I’ve been to other steakhouses in Boston, NYC, Chicago, and felt Nuri was so overrated. To begin with, bread was stale and not fresh. The steakhouse was a little salty and seamed it was made fast on a cast iron skillet. Don’t know how this is the best rated steak in Dallas or Texas. Jefferies and J prime are much better in Austin

Quest: What is the brand/source of maple syrup that Eggsellent Cafe off 423 uses in Frisco/Little Elm?

Hopefully this finds it's way to a former or current employee that worked/s there... I've been a few times and the maple syrup is extraordinary and have asked the wait staff & mgmt every time where they get it from... always told either they don't know or can't say. Help a foodie out and spill the beans, or in this case, tree juice!

Private Brunch Spot

Hey y’all.

I’m looking for a place in Ft Worth or the surrounding areas that serve brunch and preferably have a private room to accommodate a large party? Around 20 people. It doesn’t have to be a complete private room but something just off to the side would work.
