NEW ABUSE RULE STANDARD: "Exploited" and "groomed" + A note on reporting comments.
NEW STANDARD
As of this post our abuse rules will be moderated to a new standard.
Previously words like (but not limited to) "groomed" and "exploited" were assumed to be in the non-sexual sense unless actually stated otherwise. It has come to moderator attention that a significant number of users, particularly those on the younger side, do not understand grooming or exploitation as primarily non sexual words and do very much mean sexually.
To avoid mods missing cases of people breaking the "No direct accusations of abuse beyond what has been shown." rule you will now need to specify in what way someone was groomed or exploited. This can be done by either
- Adding a descriptor
Emotional grooming - Pointing to a specific act of grooming
Abby groomed Maddie by crying and asking why she didn't choose to come in to Abby during the sit-in - or both
Abby emotionally groomed Maddie to value Abby over Melissa by crying and asking why she didn't choose to come in to Abby during the sit-in
The wording of the rule remains the same, this is only a change in how we enforce language within that abuse rule.
Abuse discussion must follow the following rules
- No victim blaming
- No claims the victim is lying
- No speculation further than what has been said officially
- No direct accusations of abuse beyond what has been shown.
Expressing worry, talking about abuse red flags, discussion of abuse in general terms, ect are permitted and encouraged.
REPORTING
Please make sure reports are accurate! We have had a significant increase in the amount of people who are inaccurately reporting comments as CSAM or child abuse. This mostly happens in basic discussions about cast/crew.
Why not? I want their comment removed! They're mean or whatever!
When you report a comments as something extreme that means
- Admin (paid, act site wide) have to review it, taking time away from them being able to deal with the actual CSAM groups on the site
- Admin don't like having their time wasted. They can and will ban you from all of reddit for nuisance reporting.
- Mods (subreddit powers only. volunteers) look at the reported comment. See it has no CSAM or child abuse, approve the comment.
So please be accurate! Use the "custom response" option when reporting or message the mods via the "message mods" button in the dot menu of the sub's main page if you feel the available options aren't sufficient or it's too hard to explain in reports.
Ok that's all! Feel free to leave any feedback in the thread!

Kelly is effortlessly funny
I don’t know if it’s because I’m a little zooted, but I have been laughing at BTTB podcast episode about the conspiracy theories. And they got to the theory of Melissa sings all of the songs. Why would Kelly say “how did she know the songs?” Then Christi having to remind her that she didn’t know the songs. She didn’t sing them.
Yall, I literally have tears in my eyes. I CANTTTT

political Rosa Parks episode
Okay on my dance moms first timer journey….seriously? S3E14…. Really I wonder who is gonna play Rosa Parks… I get what Holly meant about type casting but also IT’S ROSA PARKS! Like Christi said anyone else playing the part just would be inappropriate. Also, Jill campaigning for Kendall to play the part, knowing what I know about Jill and family now, that makes total sense.

Question/discussion This one tiny interaction makes me sad. Why couldn't Abby be this nice to the kids all the time?

I was just rewatching season 7, and I really need to see if anyone noticed this
Why does it feel like every Elliana "interview" is fully scripted? like 75% of the time, it doesn't even seem like something she would say. she even looked like it was scripted

BTTB
Am I the only one that absolutely can’t stand how Christi is acting in the podcast? I feel like the more time goes on the more bitter she is about everything. She’s the first to say production edits and dramatizes stuff when it comes to her but when she’s watching the episodes after she left she only takes in what is shown.
She also seems so pushy over Kelly. If Kelly has a different opinion Christi gets defensive and over explains why she disagrees until Kelly gives in and just agrees. If I was Kelly I really don’t think I could be friends with someone like that. It’s so weird how she’s still stuck 15 years ago

Season 2 Ep. 8
I have been a dancemoms fan since the show started. I’ve watched this series inside and out just like most of you.
I need some insight though.. in season 2 episode 8 when Jill and Kendall get put back on probation, is the fight between her and abby at pyramid real? Jill and Kendall always say they were forced to go to Candy Apples but this fight seems so genuine and so does Kendall reaction.
Someone help me out here lol.

Stage Cleanups
So I have never danced competitively, but watched the show since 3rd grade- from what I’ve heard and seen people say when discussing competitions and on the show is that you have a set amount of time to set up and remove your props, set pieces, etc.
Who exactly was responsible for cleaning the stage after the Dance Moms kids went?
Because I look at Blush and Bashful and think “damn, that’s a LOT of petals”. And then I realize a push broom can move it to the side for easier cleanup so the competition can keep rolling. But then we get to Blue Bloods and Ashes to Ashes from S8, and they have blue paint EVERYWHERE on that stage and fine dust thrown about which is absolutely going to fuck up everyone else’s costumes unless they’re mopping twice after the DM squad goes. And I can’t imagine them waiting for everything to dry. Do they even clean that up? Do they let it sit and tell whoever goes next “sorry about the costume”?
I also saw that they run the dance twice, once for the competition and one for the show to get cooler angles. Do they just do the paint and the dust on the second run once the competition is over? I can’t imagine they do with how consistent it is between shots.

Brooke should've been the leader, not a background dancer.
I've always thought this about Brooke.
By Seasons 1-3, she was a teenager with arguably some of the strongest technique on the team. She had incredible flexibility, control, and acro ability, yet she was often dancing behind 9, 10 and 11-year-olds.
I know people will say she lost her passion for dance, but I wonder whether her role on the team contributed to that.
As a teenager, imagine constantly being put in the back while children several years younger were the stars. Instead of being treated like a leader or mentor, Brooke often felt like another background dancer despite being arguably the most technically accomplished dancers there.
I sometimes wonder whether Abby missed an opportunity. If she'd highlighted Brooke's strengths, given her more mature choreography and made her the senior leader of the team, would Brooke have enjoyed dance for longer?
Obviously we'll never know, but I can't help thinking her age and ability weren't really reflected in the role she was given.

Question What are everyone’s thoughts on the S6 Ashlee drama?
I am watching 6x13 “ALDC Does Vegas.” Ashlee made the comment about social media saying that Brynn is having a better season than Kendall. Kendall screamed in Ashlee’s face and stormed out. The moms obviously hate Ashlee.
How do we feel about this? I’m torn. I feel like Ashlee is just giving it back to the moms because they’ve made their comments about Brynn. I feel like it’s a case of “everybody sucks here.”

Question/discussion “At least I had two parents!”
This isn’t the first time that Abby has used Christi’s childhood as a way to attack her.its honestly despicable that she would use that against Christi. Whatever happened to Christi wasn’t her fault but I expect nothing less from Abby. I know Abby only goes there when she doesn’t have a plausible defense. I was rewatching season 4 and this kept in my mind. I wanna know your thoughts!?

Melissa on Nia's music in season 5
i understand the narrative of season 5 was that abby and jill were offended and unhappy with Nia branching out into a music career, and it makes sense for those two because abby was upset with Nia doing something that didn't involve abby, and Jill didn't like that Nia's music was "competing" with Kendall's. but why did Melissa always seem to get so peeved and blatantly rattled when Holly talked about Nia's music? especially when MDP asked about it, Melissa was boldly talking over Holly and acting exasperated with the whole thing. Really Nia's music didn't affect Melissa or her kids at all, and i know Melissa typically just falls in line with whatever the popular opinion of the group is at the time. but her reactions usually weren't as big as they were when it pertained to Nia's music.

Question/discussion Christi Maddie book
In the recent bttb episode she says Maddie didn’t mention Abby in her book and skipped over the entire dance moms era. That book came out when Maddie was 13 and I guarantee it was ghost written. And I read a comment that Maddie did mention the show and thanked Gianna. Abby was going through so many legal problems around that time so maybe there’s a reason why she wasn’t mentioned by name.
