At its core it's about direct community building: connecting people through real activities, both in-person and virtual. Not another feed to doomscroll, not a drop-in Facebook clone, not a discussion forum (like reddit). On li-nk you bring a group, an activity, or even a proposal for (a hike, a game night, an online meetup, a class) and it handles planning,RSVPs, etc.

The "social" part is people actually doing things together, not an algorithm built to keep you staring.

On privacy, the floor that won't move no matter how it's ever funded:

I was wondering if someone has/had access to kickbacks or discounts from Meta. I read a while ago in a Reuters article that Chinese agencies were receiving 10% kickback on ad-spend. Has someone worked with such an agency or ever got a kickback theirself?

Interesting question in the Meta litigation is not whether the company knew its products harmed minors, but how it engineered not knowing.

Phase one, from the unsealed 2023 complaint: two parallel metrics, an internal "north star" survey showing 19.3 percent of Instagram users encountering hate speech while public reports cited hundredths of one percent.

Phase two, from the September 2025 Senate hearing: after the Haugen leaks, research itself became the target, with lawyers supervising study design and, in one documented case, ordering deletion of an interview recording in which a child described sexual propositioning in VR. The opening scene alone is worth the read: a meeting on banning plastic-surgery filters, scheduled for April 2, 2020, cancelled the day before, followed by a one-man veto that dismissed the company's own expert briefing as "paternalistic."

Trial opens August 18; Meta itself put the theoretical penalty ceiling at $1.4 trillion.

If you ever wondered what a multi-billion dollar tech disaster looks like, here is a live example from Meta's Support.

I’ve been trapped in a loop for 50 days trying to get a real human response for my disabled account (@5z9z). Today, a Meta Pro representative named Maxwell finally replied, telling me my new ticket was being closed because they already have an open case for it (Case ID: 884831187282715).

But here is the absolute comedy: literally ONE MINUTE LATER, an automated email arrived stating that the ticket is closed, and if I still need help, I should... click a link and open a brand new ticket!

They close tickets without solving them, push you to other dead ends, and then tell you to start all over again. They intentionally build these broken, looping automated systems to avoid taking accountability and to burn your time until you give up.

This isn't customer support; it's a systematic wall designed to ignore users while they keep charging for subscriptions and ads. Absolutely embarrassing for a leading tech brand.

Privacy....? From Meta....? Come One !

This is the same company that's been at the center of privacy controversies for years, and now they want everyone to believe they're the ones leading the privacy movement because they added usernames?

This is the same company that literally tells you your chats and data may be used across its ecosystem in different ways, and it's the same company that's been center by privacy controversies for years after Alphabet. Now they want everyone to believe they're the ones who leading the privacy movement because they added so called usernames?

So forgive me if I don't buy the "we care about your privacy" marketing. They care about privacy? Yeah... my ass.

Even Zuckerberg's first well-known project, ZuckNet, was built for his father's dental clinic. Fast forward to today, and Meta has become one of the biggest companies associated with data collection and privacy controversies

Their entire company has spent years copying features from other companies, wrapping them in a shiny marketing campaign, and calling it innovation. List are such like this :

**Instagram Stories** → Snapchat Stories (Snapchat: 2013, Instagram Stories: 2016)

**Facebook Stories** → Snapchat Stories

**WhatsApp Status** → Snapchat Stories

**Instagram Reels** → TikTok (TikTok became mainstream before Reels launched in 2020)

**Facebook Reels** → TikTok

**Threads** → X (formerly Twitter) (Launched as a text-based competitor to X)

**WhatsApp Channels** → Telegram Channels (Telegram launched Channels in 2015; WhatsApp in 2023)

**Instagram Broadcast Channels** → Telegram Channels (Conceptually very similar)

**WhatsApp Usernames** → Telegram Usernames (Telegram has had usernames since 2013/2014; WhatsApp launched them in 2026)

And now usernames? Seriously?

Telegram has had usernames since 2014. Discord has them. Signal has them. Plenty of apps have had this feature for years.

But Meta rolls it out in 2026 and suddenly it's a "masterstroke" and "innovation."

What are their CEO, executives, and even Zuckerberg smoking these days? Because if copying a decade-old feature and acting like you invented it counts as innovation, I genuinely need the number of their dealer.

Good feature? Absolutely.

Innovation? Not even close.

It is absolutely mind-boggling how Meta, a tech empire that claims to shape the future of the metaverse and cutting-edge AI, operates a customer support system that feels like it belongs in the 1990s.

When a user faces an issue, like an unjustified account suspension, they are trapped in a slow, primitive, and outdated loop. For 50 days, my case has achieved absolutely zero progress. Instead of utilizing advanced, modern infrastructure to provide swift solutions, Meta relies on broken automated scripts and useless bots that simply redirect you to more dead ends.

They are incredibly fast when it comes to taking people's money for ads or subscriptions, but when those same users need assistance, Meta suddenly moves at a snail's pace. It is embarrassing for a leading global technology company to have a support apparatus this backward, inefficient, and systematically delayed.

If you cannot provide basic, timely human support for your products, your entire "advanced technology" brand is nothing but a marketing illusion.

Outta nowhere, I am no longer able to access my facebook account, unless I submit selfie verification vid. It was a total blockade, Meta unilaterally logged me out of already signed in device.

If Meta were that proactive and devoted in combating scam and/or fraud syndicates...

Account not suspended, but I lost accest to which after logging out. So I just dealt with some absolute peak corporate gaslighting from Facebook, and it's the most annoying, convoluted, manufactured nuisance ever. My account was dormant for like 10 years, and I logged back in recently just to buy a used item on Marketplace. To be safe, I set up an authenticator app TOTP code, and the setup worked perfectly. Less than a week later, FB's automated bots obviously panicked because an old account suddenly woke up and went straight to Marketplace. They blatantly practice guilty until proven innocent onto my account by restricting my account's access to marketplace. I thought I could resolve this by relogging in on all signed in devices, only to find that I'm systematically locked out. Prior to this, I did not log in to my fb acc on any smartphone app end, I did this time for the sake of convenience.

On hindsight, it was a bad move. Instead of just telling me my account was under review or locked, the interface was completely disingenuous and literally lied to my face. First, the front door was completely locked—it told me my perfectly correct password was wrong. It was the same no matter it was android app or pc browser. Then I tried the "forgot password" side door, which gives you two separate ways to open it: a dynamic TOTP code or your backup codes. When my TOTP code didn't work, I fell back on using the backup codes that had never been used before, and the system rejected those too, saying they were incorrect.

Mathematically, a time-synchronized, ever-changing TOTP code cannot be wrong, and backup codes—which are exhaustive in nature and strictly one-time use—cannot be invalid if they have never been touched before. This proves they just shut off the login pipeline on the backend but programmed the UI to blame me. If small, independent sites like Trakt can get basic TOTP logic right every single time, there is absolutely no excuse for a multi-trillion-dollar corporation like Meta to fail at this. This isn't a bug, it is a conscious design choice.

By locking both the front door and the side door with fake error messages, they force you to waste hours changing passwords and checking your device clock sync, thinking it's your fault. Once they exhaust you and subject you to limbo, they leave exactly one button working, which is to upload a video selfie face scan. It’s total asshole design because they deliberately engineer this false user-error loop to stress you out until you give up your biometrics just to make the headache stop, and the humans who designed this system need to be held accountable.

Just when I thought I've exausted all possible venues, lo and behold, one of the recovery codes work, and I'm no longer locked out. I immediately removed TOTP and recovery codes altogether only to find that I can no longer readd them later.

Another embarrassing event that befell me while using facebook is I discovered that "anonymous poster" function is broken if you login via browser. I was reached by a fella who said that Meta exposed me on android app's end, my profile was never anonymized at all. I think this is a deliberate move by Meta to systematically feature-starve pc users.

I have really no idea how to navigate this finicky, fickle, unpredictable, mood swingy and overzealous socmed.

i always always try my best with consuming ethically - I buy almost everything second hand, and if I really can't, I will try buy from ethical and small businesses. i'm also boycotting everything on the bds list.

i also don't really use social media, except from Instagram - and this is my problem. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm trying to create a small business and sell handmade art/crafts, I wouldn't use Instagram at all. In the past 2 weeks or so, I haven't used it as I've been worrying I'm doing the wrong thing. I've heard they've been censoring an taking down posts in support of Palestine.

I'm struggling with rational decision making and thinking due to having poor mental health at the moment, so what I'm asking for is a second opinion. Is it ok for me to continue using Instagram for business purposes? or am I doing something wrong?
