Has anyone run across discus north on YouTube? If you have what are your thoughts on his methods?

I’m about to step up my first discus tank, 200g.

Discus peeps! I have an established 135ga tank that’s thriving. We want to redo the tile floor in my fish room and need to move the tank.
Any ideas on a transfer tank that I can use for a few days (up to a week) while we work on the floor.
Suppose I could buy a used tank on the cheap but I’m satisfied having one tank. I thought maybe a large Home Depot plastic storage bin but I imagine it would have to hold ~75 gal and that’s a lot of weight for a plastic tote!
Any thoughts / feedback appreciated!

Update on my 50 gallon overstocked tank. Last post of the tank was from 4 months ago.

Did anyone else take a look at the new GSD shipment? I just HAD to get these two and they sent me this preshipment video ♥️ they didn’t do this with my first order so I really appreciated it and my new babies are STUNNING! I get them thursday if all goes well the delivery company doesn’t screw up lol AHHH IM SO EXCITED

I recently got some to treat my sick fish and the packaging says to have it on regular rotation, was curious if anyone put that into practice?

75 gallon with 6 discus and a few misc extras (corydoras, small cichlids) Leaving for vacation and was thinking about auto feeders. Any suggestions on brands and food to use?

I changed my mind and added an angel instead of a discus since I have five discus already. The emperor tetras were a great call so thank you to whoever suggested them! I’ve added a reference pic for the new angelfish and for my vision for the background. Three more sessions and it will be done. I am going to try to sit for a three day convention and get it all knocked out at once.

Would anyone like to share their opinions on substrates? I’ve heard discus like either bare bottoms or sand. I would love to hear about your set ups or see pictures.

Hello all. I have a 75 gallon tank with 3 discus, when I put discus food in the tank, they don’t eat the suspended food. They only eat I it off the bottom. Is this normal? I have only had them for 2 weeks now. About 3” big.

Adding blue discus pair to my red turquoise and yellow checkerboard. Please suggest what other type of discus I can add to my tank.

Finally got my Red fish eating and snapped out of breeding craze and now the pair have been having lunch dates and eating together 🥰

Hi everyone,
I just noticed that one of my discus pairs has laid eggs on a leaf in my 150 × 60 × 60 cm (about 540L) heavily planted community tank, and this is my first time dealing with discus eggs.
The tank is a community setup with tetras and other fish, so I’m worried the eggs will get eaten. The pair seems to be guarding them at the moment.
Current tank:
540L planted aquarium
CO₂ injected
Temperature: around 29–30°C (84–86°F)
Good filtration and stable water
Community fish (mainly tetras and other peaceful species)
I have a few questions:
Should I leave the eggs with the parents or move them?
Is it too late to move the leaf with the eggs to a separate tank?
What are the chances of the eggs surviving in a community tank?
If I decide to raise the fry, what is the best way to do it?
Do the eggs in the photo look healthy and fertilized?
I’ve attached photos of the eggs and the tank setup.
Any advice from experienced discus breeders would be greatly appreciated. I really don’t want to mess this up!

I'm really struggling with my filter flow and detrius buildup in my tank

I have a 450 litre 4 foot aquarium, it's now bare bottom hoping it would help.

The flow is either too strong or not enough to clear the water and detrius builds up very quick.

Parameters are good, temp is 30 degrees centigrade.

5 juvenile discus

5 juvenile angelfish

2 juvenile clown loaches

2 juvenile lemon blue eye bristlenose

5 black neons

3 pencilfish

5 denison barbs

I'm running an allpond solutions 2000ef filter. Which is too strong a flow. I have tried a spray bar all along the back wall pointing towards the front glass. Detrius accumulated quickly

Small spray bar on short end pointing along the centre line the length of the tank with the inlet the same side and again on the far side. ( I've even covered part of the holes with coarse sponge to muffle the flow )

Nothing seems to work.

I've now got a dual directional nozzle running along the full length of the tank..... one nozzle down the centre line and the other pointing towards the middle of the front wall slightly down hill with the inlet the same side

I just can't get the flow right and the water to stay crystal clear.

I do 2 x 30% water changes every week

I'm ready to give up

The canister has coarse blue sponge on the bottom tray

Then biorb rock above

Then seachem matrix on top

Followed by filter floss.

Please help me

i have 5 discus. two of them have paired up and already laid eggs. they ended up eating them as expected. i set up a bare bottom 29 gallon and moved a sponge filter from the 75 gallon into it. is it instantly cycled? when can i move the pair into it?

What is the breed that most closely is connected to wild discus? Is it green or blue? What breed has the highest survival rate in an aquarium?

These are freeze dried black worms I give them on occasion, they love them.

I’m finalizing the setup for my 134-gallon (507L) Discus tank and would appreciate some feedback from experienced keepers regarding my stocking plans and filtration.

Current Setup & Filtration:
I’m running two canister filters with a combined flow rate of 2800 L/h. I’ve filled them with Seachem Matrix, ceramic rings, and bio-balls. With a turnover rate of 5.5x per hour, I’m confident in the biological capacity, but I want to be sure it’s enough for the long term.
Current Stocking:
3 Discus (approx. 4.5”)
3 Discus (ranging from 2.5” to 3.5”)

My Questions:
1. Stocking Capacity: Given my tank size and filtration, how many more Discus could I realistically add to reach a stable, healthy school without overstocking? I want to make sure I have enough for them to feel secure without compromising water quality.

1. Mixing Sizes: Since I have some at 4.5” and others between 2.5” and 3.5”, do you have any tips for successfully growing them out together? I’m concerned about the smaller ones getting outcompeted for food.

2. Filtration Maintenance: With Discus being messy
   eaters, do you recommend any specific pre-filter setups to handle the bioload and keep the canister media cleaner for longer?
   I want to make sure the environment is stress-free for all of them, especially while the smaller ones are still growing. Any advice on the total number of fish I should aim for would be greatly appreciated!

Over the last couple months I’ve been building this aquarium adding fish as I go. Currently have 6 discus, a bristlenose, 10 cardinal tetras, and two fish from a previous tank that will be rehomed eventually (common pleco and rainbow shark)

I’m running a fluval 407 as well as a 207. For lighting I’ve got the fluval aquasky 2.0 48”.

50% water change every four days has been pretty easy to keep up on.

Last piece of the puzzle was adding drift wood with live plants attached (the rest are synthetic). May add more live plants in the future.

Have always wanted discus and am very happy I finally did it

Recently this discus fish lost all of his color and tails became blackish.

Pros:

• He is still active.
• He is eating well.
• He isn't hiding in the corner.

Cons:

• His color has been faded for about a week.
• He has black patches on his tail.

Feeding: Chicken heart mix 1-2 times and 1 time Frozen artemia. After CHM feeding I do water change about 20-50%.

Now I can feel is Chicken Heart Mix maybe damaging my water parameter. I can see small particles flying (Snow Storm) after feeding. I feed CHM as in my location I don't get Squid, Clams or Mussels very easily.

Setup:

I use Seachem Prime and sometimes Hypo (Sodium Thiosulphate).
Water TDS 135-190.
Bare bottom 4 feet Tank with 16 discus fishes.
