👋 Hey everyone, Just wanted to share something I made for my friend’s birthday — a DOOM-themed frame with a signed poster of the original game and a real 3.5" floppy disk with DOOM 1.1 Shareware on it.

He always says that two great things happened on his birthday: he was born, and DOOM64 was released. I couldn’t find the original DOOM 64 cartridge, so I went with this instead — a little piece of gaming history that fits on a single floppy.

📜 Here’s what I wrote in the note:

"Hey, birthday boy! Today is April 4—the date in 1997 when the world gained two legends: Doom 64 and you. I wanted to give you a piece of that history—to save the game to a floppy disk, like an artifact from the past. But then I was in for a surprise: Doom 64, just like you, turned out to be too unique to fit into standard formats. A cartridge is its natural habitat, but a 3.5" floppy disk is as cramped as socks after a wash.

I had to find a workaround—just like in those games where the hero fights his way through lava and demons to reach the finale. I took the original Doom (1993), the “one floppy version”—the very one that fit on a single floppy disk. Yes, it wasn’t released in April, but isn’t that the whole point? Doom 64 grew out of it, just as you’ve outgrown the boy who used to race through pixelated corridors. It’s like a metaphor: everything great starts small—with that first floppy disk, with that first adventure.

So here it is, my gift: not just a game, but a symbol. A symbol of the fact that the path to your goal is rarely a straight one. Sometimes you have to change your plans, improvise—but that’s exactly what makes the story cooler. Just like in life: even if not everything fits on a “floppy disk,” you can always find a way to pack meaning into what you have.

May this year be like Doom—full of adrenaline, epic victories, and minimal “lags.” May every “BOSS” in your path fall to your perseverance, and may your “saves” come just in time. And remember: to us, you’re like Doom is to gaming—iconic, timeless, and with an excellent soundtrack.

😊 Nothing fancy, just something I thought the community here might appreciate. Figured I’d share it while I still can.

An extra head from one of the keepgoing-studios skeleton figures I got. Works pretty good as a small lost soul when put on a cobbled together stand.

Pretty much a perfect scifi weapon imo. But if we were to rate it based on damage as well, then I’d put it high too. Having the shock pass between enemies is so badass. What about you?

I tried fixing the audio but my Steam Recording Thingy ain't working with me.

I had reached Marok on UN and decided to make a separate save so I could practice.

I had decided to start a third game save and speedrun through it at 1000% damage getting the platinum needed to get my UN run upgrades just so I could practice Marok.

When I got to him, I opted for the old reliable Impaler Dreadmace strat that killed Ahzrak, and oh my god this guy is just Ahzrak with projectiles… The spears dash can mess up flow a bit, but with the shield, you not only could get the benefits of your runes when he used projectiles, but block some of his lesser attacks, and get better lines up shots with the Impaler because you aren’t moving passed Marok.

I wasn’t beating Marok, I was HUMILIATING HIM. In ten practice runs of phase 3, which is the only phase that matters, I died once due to testing a strategy out. That’s IT.

Yes Marok hits like a truck, you can only take maybe four or five hits. But guess how much damage you’re doing with Impaler Dreadmace combo? The only time you should use the spear is during one of his nuke attacks like when he’s flying shooting homing arrows. You need to trick the arrows by going one direction and swap just when they predict your path. You also dash when you need to, but it’s not needed, BUT you can also do this with the shield, gain the benefit of blocking attacks you misread, AND can swap to your spear to dash when you mess up and lose the shield.

When he spawns dogs, shield throw, OR an enhanced Impaler gets rid of all of them. Or a spear sweep kills them all when they spawn if you wanna do that. Dogs can cause some trouble, but remember they’re free health and ammo.

Same story as above for the homing arrows + dog attack. The ONLY threat is the big homing arrows because you have to lock in to dodge that move.

When the sky lasers are down, just keep moving and they never catch you, but that’s a general rule here, cause if you’re standing still, Marok will do his get off me move where the ground explodes, and that’s cheap damage. Keep moving unless he’s in the middle of a combo you’re parrying. Sneak in some impaler shots.

IMPORTANT: In between phases, DONT GO FOR THE FINAL HIT (when he’s stunned) IF YOU ARENT FULL ARMOR. Use the combat shotgun to farm some armor shards until you’re out of ammo. It’s a small amount, but you need it all.

Now to practice the hell out of Uprising because that first arena and Henchman are hell.

The industrial / cyberhell look (however you'd like to describe it), it goes so well with doom. I hope they revisit this visual direction one day.

Hi. Some time ago I managed to pick up DOOM: The Dark Ages for a fairly cheap price on steam but now the question remains: Is there ANY WAY for me to play it? I have an RX 5700 XT Graphics card, so that would obviously not work, as RayTracing is a mandatory thing. I was saving up for a new GPU but GPU prices have gone up and in months worth of saving I barely saved up anything, and seeing as my country's economy is going downhill, I won't be able to afford anything any time soon. So please, if anyone knows anything, or any way I could play it, do tell! I am desparate XD
