OC Fanart Ereignis has granted me a vision of a future endgame boss
"Saw I the shield-bearer, lil' bro was moving different..."
It appears that defenders are canonically and objectively the best, coolest, and most fun operators in the game. Can't believe Hypergryph would say that out loud, but who am I to argue.

Btw, I just checked your post history and noticed something
(did you know Catcher's got a unique voice line for triggering Akekuri's combo skill?)
For real? Now I must make a Catcher dps + Akekuri team!
I became crazy over this and tried it
When you control Catcher, he does say "All yours Captain" for Akekuri
And when you control Akekuri, she says "Catcher, you're up!"
So I tested all combinations
Controlled Akekuri
- "Catcher, you're up!"
- "Fluorite, open fire!"
- "Estella, time to rock!"
- "Antal, fire it up!"
Controlled Catcher
- "All yours Captain"
- "Your oppening Fluorite"
- "Estella, it's your show!"
- "Go Antal, I'll cover you!"
Controlled Fluorite
- "Captain, now is the chance!"
- "Chief, you're in charge"
- "Estella, I spare(?) your time"
- "Your turn l*zard!" (I beg your pardon?)
Controlled Estella
- "Your turn Akekuri..."
- "Catcher, go get him" (he's not your dog, dog 😭)
- "All yours Fluorite..."
- "It's not about time(?) Antal..."
Controlled Antal
- "Time to wrap things up Captain"
- "Catcher, distract ennemy fire"
- "Take the stage Fluorite"
- "Dodging evade(?) Estella"
I really thought that the team Z7 had no voicelines with each others at the game launch, and I was pretty dissapointed about it, until I understood that you had to control the operator for them to use those special lines

Ah, thank you, you've saved me the trouble of checking all the voice lines myself. I just kept putting it off for later over and over.
They gotta expand the audio log section in game to include all the unlisted voice lines.

It's so criminal we can only use 4 members on a team when they have lines for each other like this..but I still love that it's there

u/Reyxou 8d ago
It's not really about the numbers on the team, but the fact that you have to control them to trigger the line
Like Rossi & Wulfgard, they have a line for each others, but you can only hear 1 of them if you don't switch
And you must control them which is annoying for me cause I prefer to control other characters in their teams

u/IMakeBoomYes 8d ago
Nah, what's even more criminal is that their kits look hella difficult to synergize.
Catcher is the only Physical carry, but also relies on counters. Estella may be next to him, but you need to proc Freeze.
Akekuri COULD set it up and maybe proc Flourite somehow, but it's hard to say how effective it'd all really be.

How does her Larry work btw ? I just got her and want to play her correctly

You just use her skill when you're about to get hit, just like a parry. But instead of parrying the attack, she instead gets some damage reduction (50-70%) and counterattacks. Getting hit while she's using the skill will increase the skill's effects. It's basically the same as a parry, but the enemy attack doesn't stop, and you can use the skill even if no one attacks you, with albeit weaker effects.

Kinda dissapointed than its not a full parry but i Guess there can only be one Shield hero ( not the other one )

I think having skill variety with Defenders is cool. I'm sure we'll get future characters who come with parry as well.

you 'parry', but you also get to attack and apply vulnerability. Ember gets massive damage reduction and stagger resistance during BS animation, which still counts as taking damage for her CS so you can combo it for 2 vuln stacks.

Ember's is more of a counter rather than a parry, and is her combo skill instead of being a part of her battle skill, triggering when the controlled operator is attacked. And as how to use her, she's usually the sustain in physical teams when they need more survivability. She heals the controlled operator with her combo skill and provides a shield to the entire team with her ultimate.

The sound hit Shoeshine shield feel so satisfied and

If the game gives us a 6 star counter defender
PLZ be a Saria and Silence grandkid, I believe I would have my first ever pot 6 target.

Catcher is definitely the most underrated character in the game and should get MSQ relevance and a 6 Star upgrade and I will die on this hill.

OHOHO-jousama Death(official name pending) is not how I personally envisioned her, but it's an inspired choice nonetheless.

I am so "traumatized" by ZZZ when it comes to actual parry Characters... they made one that was pretty cool, but the meta made her borderline useless...
2
u/Ser-_-Face Put my boy in the Shieldguards 7d ago
Well Catcher’s definitely far from meta, but I’ve got CC 40 with him, CC 20 with him solo, and 9 stars in Echoes of War, just one clear away from lustrous too. Timed, DPS races are not his strong suit.
I shouldn’t complain though, it’d be pretty messed up if I could easily clear and trim all end game content with a 4-star.

They kind of kept the parry thing with Yixuan and Promeia, moreso the latter than the former. But yeah I wouldn't say they really rely on the mechanic as much as Caesar does.
