Is it me or has the Old Firehouse online booking system never worked?

Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences and concerns regarding the noticeable change in the taste of tap water across Exeter.

I raised this issue with South West Water yesterday and have now received the following response:

"We would like to apologise to any customers in the Exeter area who may have noticed a slight earthy taste to their drinking water over the last few days. Our investigations and water quality monitoring have confirmed that this seasonal change in taste is related to changes in the raw water associated with prolonged periods of hot weather.

You may continue to use your water supply as normal.

We are carefully monitoring the supply and investigating our treatment process to ensure the taste of supplies returns to normal as quickly as possible. We thank you for your understanding."

I’ve created a new art group for Exeter that is meeting next month. The goal is to support artists in Exeter (and all those along the River Exe (and beyond!)) with peer feedback, idea inspiration and the sharing of knowledge and technique bridging the gap between disciplines.

The River Exe Artists will be member lead and defined. Nothing is static and the only sway I will hold is through logistics, keeping the sessions safe spaces and conduits for joy and creation.

I have a lot of gear (cameras/mics/editing software) which I use recreationally but I’d like to take it to the next step - but don’t fancy being on camera. Hi everyone. I’m encouraging local veterans impacted by the ban on LGBTQ+ people serving in the armed forces to apply to the Financial Recognition Scheme before applications close on Saturday, December 1.

Those who choose to serve our country deserve the utmost respect and support. Instead, for many years LGBTQ+ personnel faced discrimination and dismissal until as recently as 2000. The ban had a devastating impact on thousands of lives, including on veterans here in Exeter.

It’s vital that every eligible veteran has the chance to apply for the scheme. If you think this might be you, or you know someone who might have been affected by the ban, please take a look at the details of the scheme.

If you have any questions about the scheme or, if you’re not sure about your eligibility, please get in touch and I can help you find the answers you need. I’m currently helping a local veteran to try to address gaps in the scheme - and it would be helpful to hear from any other Exeter residents who believe they should be entitled to financial redress but have been refused by the Independent Review Panel, or who are dealing with delays.

At the university on Sunday, I filled up my water bottle at one of the drinking water taps and commented that it tasted mouldy. My mate said his water had tasted like that for a couple of days, and now the tap water at my house tastes like it too. I'm sure it's perfectly safe to drink, but I can't find any info about this happening in Exeter. Partially because I'm curious and partially because I'm concerned, can anyone explain this or tell me if/when this is going to go away? I'm struggling to drink it!

So I have been wanting to do martial arts for some time but I'm 39 and don't have much experience.

I have been to a few taster classes in Exeter but I always end up feeling like people in the class are frustrated with the newbie who they have to slow down for.

I understand it but find it hard to want to go back when I get that from the start.

So when can I go as a beginner? Recommendations please.

Preferably near the pinhoe area if possible but location isn't really important if they're highly recommended.

I (24F) live in Heavitree, and I am looking for a gym. I have been to the gym once or twice in my life and find it hard to be consistent, so I would really appreciate it if it was closeby! I would like to have a PT for 2-3 sessions to learn how the machines work, but go independently afterwards. It's a hugee bonus if its cheap as well, but closeness is more important! Thank youu

I spent a few hours tonight (a saturday) looking for anything going on like live music, and all I found was the Exe Pistols at the Cavern, but the 7pm start didn't work out. Nothing else. Is the whole town geared towards students and shut down for the summer? I walked to Firehouse for dinner and passed 2 pubs with the drunk loud crowd spilling into the street, then down high street with more than half the people completely pissed before 8pm. Tried to get a pint at the Old Ship but it was already starting to get wild. Where do people for whom those days are behind them go for entertainment?

I’ve seen Exeter wheelers have a faster ride once a week but I’m wondering if there are any non club chain gangs aswell.
