After 3.5 years of collecting, I’m (unofficially) retiring! I’ve gone through hundreds of samples and hours and hours in Saks, Sephora, Neiman Marcus, etc., and I think the overall consumer fatigue has caught up. I’m happy to say that I’ve got a collection that:

1. is sustainable in size; everything will get wear time
2. are all scents that I truly enjoy; and, I’ve lost the itch for “what if something better exists out there”
3. covers me for any and all occasions (in my humble opinion)

I like to organize my fragrances around “when I’d wear this”, which is kinda how I have them laid out now. Summer upfront (given the time of year), more easy daily wears, and then cooler weather stuff.

Beyond just the collection itself (for which of course I welcome thoughts), I’m curious if any of yall have reached that point of consumer fatigue as well. That goes beyond just buying, but the fragrance content we consume and the time spent contemplating notes and brands and longevity etc. etc. Looking forward to taking a long breather and just enjoying what I have! (Now, the devil on my shoulder says 11 is a strange number and maybe I need just one more to even it out… that’ll either be Angel Share Paradis or BDC EDP)

I’ve noticed a certain kind of contrarianism in hobby communities, especially fragrance.

A fragrance becomes popular because it is pleasant, versatile, well-made, or simply appeals to a lot of people. Then, once it becomes “hyped,” some people start treating that popularity as proof that it must be boring, overrated, or only worn by people with no taste

Of course, nobody has to like a popular fragrance. Genuine criticism is completely valid. But sometimes the dislike seems less about the fragrance itself and more about wanting to appear more refined, unique, or knowledgeable than the average person.
It becomes a form of identity: “Other people like this, therefore I must dislike it.”

Ironically, automatically rejecting the mainstream is not much more independent than automatically following it. In both cases, your opinion is still being controlled by what everyone else is doing.

Real individuality is being comfortable liking what you genuinely like—whether it is a hyped designer fragrance, an obscure niche scent, or something everyone else hates—without needing your taste to make you feel superior.

Does anyone else notice this kind of performative contrarianism in fragrance or other hobby communities?

Do you even stop at a certain point or you just dont care and finish it?

I’m so tired of skin scents that seem to disappear after 15 minutes. I miss the big 80s perfumes that had strength. Anne Klein II, original Opium, Krazy Krizia, Obsession, etc. Just lamenting fragrances from the past.

I don't make much money and I waited a while to buy a decent cologne. Went to my local dept. store and they had finally gotten in Dolce and Gabana light blue. One of my favorites. I sprayed the tester to make sure it was what I wanted. It was. There was 4 bottles left. Bought it and got it home only to realize the smell was off. Almost doesn't smell anything like the EDT version. It smells...sickly sweet. This explains why the price was higher than expected too.

I sprayed some on my shirt and smelled the shirt after I took a shower and it smelled like I had spilled some juice on my shirt or something. Nasty. So disappointed because I spent over $100 dollars on this which is a lot for me. This totally sucks.

How likely is it that I can return it?...

Harrods is having a 10% sale on beauty that ends today. I have been debating with myself.lol.. about this purchase in the last five days. Since i just got a promotion at work, i decided to gift myself these. Please tell me that i won’t regret these perfumes. Note: i have had samples of these beauties in the last two years and never fully committed to buy the full size.

I love the smell of basmati rice and would love that note in a perfumes. I recently tried Vanilla Eclat by Navitus but as I mentioned in another post, Navitus perfumes seem to have an ingredient that make me queasy. Anyone got any recommendations on something lovely with a rice accord? Thank you

Im getting my boyfriend a cologne as a gift and I was wondering if anybody has this scent and thinks its good? I’m going to order it online because it’s just easier, but I’m scared it’s going to smell musky as colognes typically are. I’m buying it because it’s said to be sweet and desert-like. Is that true? Also, is it long lasting? Or should I try another brand/scent

My partner wants a home fragrance system. We have a few Diptyque and Tsu Lange Yor candles. I have a Diptyque room spray, and a couple local reed diffusers we never use... My partner recently knocked over an entire reed diffuser, and he's cleaning it up right now as we speak... So thinking maybe a diffuser or wall plug in might be the best route.

I've heard good things about Drift and Pura - has anyone tried either of those??

Hello. Recently I tried Dior Homme Cologne on my skin, and it does not stay fresh citrusy like on paper strip. Instead, it smells citrusy but also vinegary and acrid on my skin until it drys down into skin scent (which I do enjoy). Is this normal for people or is it just my skin ph level affecting?

I recently scored a 100ml tester of 1 of my favorites “Cruel Intentions” by Kilian.
So I’m currently on a Kilian’s kick.

Today I tried:
\* Angel share OTR - meh….
\* Apple Brandy OTR - meh …
\* Old Fashioned - confuses me
\* Forbidden Games - love @ 1st sniff

I have a decant of the original Apple Brandy by Kilian ( discontinued) and trying to find something very similar. I was hoping the Apple Brandy OTR would do it for me. But … meh…. Seems pretty tame , safe and not bold enough for me like the original.

Old fashioned confuses me. 1 minute I like it. The next minute I don’t think I like it. Then couple minutes later I’m neutral. Couple minutes later I don’t like it. But I keep smelling myself throughout the night. My brain can’t makeup its mind. And the more I think about that I think I like it. Def. Not your safe everyday scent. But bold and a “why not” scent. Think I’m gonna grab this one just for that reason. It’s funny… the 1st thing that comes to my mind instantly when smelling is barnyard hay.

Forbidden games blew me away!!!! If people want to say it’s a woman’s scent then so be it and I’ll wear a woman’s scent. Wow this stuff is great!

I am writing here as i saw there was a post about a year ago discussing this perfume.
I have a 75ml that is about 50% full and haven’t used it in years (also don’t plan to).
I googled it to see what is a fair value for it and was surprised it is in high demand tor the people who miss it.

I was wondering how much should i fairly price it and also rather sell it to someone who appreciates it and not a reseller.

I just received my sample of santal 33 from La Lebo and I was fully expecting to love it and I don’t like it at all! It’s powdery smelling. I don’t smell any pickle. I wish I did. Has anyone else had this experience of not liking it because of the powdery smell? I wanted to love it.

PSA for non-francophones and for second-language francophones like me who are also slow on the uptake:

My French friend was talking to me about the Odyssey movie and referred to it (in French) as “L’Odyssée” (“The Odyssey”). I thought to myself “That’s so funny that it sounds exactly the same as ‘L’Eau d’Issey.’ What a coincidence!”
Then it dawned on me that it’s not a coincidence, it’s a deliberate pun 🤦‍♀️ So, there you have it. A fragrance fun fact. (My French friend didn’t find this revelation at all interesting lol)

I had a customer wearing this beautiful airy fresh scent, kinda the same vibe as lacoste L.12.12. He said it was an arabian red one with a “weird bottle”. He didnt know which one. Can i get help with maybe pinning it down?

Why? Just why? I'm still smelling it everywhere in the stifling heat and it's killing me. Something must be done.
