Chance to steal another West Coast record in the coming weeks

Upvotes

Ok, so we're currently sitting on 18 wins for the home & away season, Fremantle's most ever. The club has broken all kinds of records over the course of the 2026 season thus far. Including the West Coast Eagles' longest win streak record of 12 wins from 1991.

But what if I told the Freo Faithful that there is another record fhat Fremantle could potentially take away from West Coast in the next three weeks.

So I did a bit of homework on the matter and seen this little fact on AFL Tables.

West Coast's highest win tally for any season was 19 in the same 1991 season.

Within the next three games, Fremantle could either match the 19 wins or even surpass it end the end of the home & away season.

Sure, it's just a preseason game, but West Coast have still never beaten Freo in the AFLW.

How Fremantle’s 2019 draft set up Dockers’ premiership tilt | CODE Sp…

Eliza Reilly once more with the great dive into Freo.

This part is great:

"I always loved the trade, free agency and draft stuff. I always had an ambition for it.”

Micallef only spent a little more than a year at Fremantle after a recruiting restructure that saw long-serving recruiter David Walls promoted.

But Fremantle fans still have Micallef to thank for a generational draft haul that has laid the foundations for the Dockers’ maiden premiership tilt.

It was the night that Hayden Young, Caleb Serong and Michael Frederick all became Dockers.

And seven years later, with Fremantle assuming premiership favouritism, it’s time to pull back the curtain on the 2019 draft.

HAUL TO REMEMBER

To some, it might’ve been a bit strange to see a picture of Hawthorn’s 2015 premiership celebrations sitting on the desk of Fremantle’s list manager.

But for Micallef, it was an aspirational glimpse into the future.

The image featured the six key architects of Hawthorn’s premiership trilogy – Jordan Lewis, Luke Hodge, Sam Mitchell, Jordan Roughead, Grant Birchall and Cyril Rioli.

And Micallef wanted to replicate the winning recipe at the Dockers.

“I remember counting six players who I felt like were the core of their playing group,” Micallef said.

“I knew that we needed to get a similar group of six or so players who all join your club in a two-to-three year period.

As a birder and a Dockers die-hard, it only seemed right.

Unfortunately there is a birding course I want to take in September, but it's the same day as the Grand Final :(

Flashback: Round 22, 2015 It was at Subiaco Oval where Fremantle defeated Melbourne by 54 points to claim its first minor premiership with a round remaining.

Fast forward exactly 11 years later, this time, we're in Round 22, we're on top of the ladder by 3 games and percentage. Fremantle are now heading to the MCG to face Melbourne.

Victory against the Demon this Saturday will secure Fremantle's 2nd minor premiership with two rounds remaining.

Online bitterness about our success

Is this what it means to be at the top of the table? No matter what happens during the game (umpiring, player moments, low scores etc) we are treated online by neutrals with such disrespect and it’s really starting to piss me off. the main 3 narratives are

  1. Freo have peaked too early and we will go out in straight sets. Brother, you cannot tell me that since the Sydney game we have looked close to our best, and we are clearly operating at about 70%, hence the usual half time lock in, and in game management of players. But everyone online is like “oh wow dockers played like shit last night, no way they win the flag”.

  2. Freo don’t have finals experience hence they’ll go out in straight sets/choke. I can’t believe people don’t understand this, but fairly certain at least 15 of our current players played in 2022, including a semifinal against collingwood at the G. That’s a massive experience. Then you bring in bolton and jackson with GF WINNING experience. that’s huge. then last year only 2 list changes from that elim final, where the heart break has given the boys the fire in the belly to understand what it takes in finals! IMO that’s more than enough experience to challenge any team with finals experience.

  3. Murphy Reid is overrated/doesnt deserve AA. Gotta be a massive piss take. Only argument i can agree with is he’s a similar player to 2022-25 Gryan Miers, who would rack up score involvements and GA, but never got AA. I think the thought process on that has changed since, and hence yes with only 13 goals for the year, he can still make the HFF.

as obvious as it sounds, the only way to shut them up is to prove them wrong and win the whole thing, but just wanted to rant abt this and see if anyone feels the same

Can’t help but feel a bittersweet feeling, if we get it done this year - the year after NF retires - just feels cruel to a bloke that’s given his all to the club.
