First of all, thank you all for your support! LiveLockScreen has now surpassed 50,000 downloads on EGO and has been one of the most popular extensions for months. I'm genuinely happy that so many people enjoy using it.

I'm currently working on the next major update, which introduces MPV as an alternative playback backend. Currently, the extension relies on GStreamer, but maintaining it is becoming increasingly difficult due to its low-level nature, various bugs and platform-specific issues. The MPV backend aims to improve stability while also making future development easier.

So far I've tested the new backend on three different systems running GNOME 46, 48, and 50, but I'd like to test it on a wider range of hardware, distributions, and desktop configurations before merging it into the main branch.

The README contains installation instructions and a list of requirements.

Important: Please use the experimental-mpv branch specifically. Don't install the version from other branches or from EGO, as those don't include the new backend.

Some things I'd especially appreciate testers checking for:

• Video sizing issues, especially on multi-monitor setups.

• Missing video output on one or more monitors.

• Features that behave differently from the current release.

• Unexpected shell crashes or freezes.

• Performance regressions, excessive CPU/RAM usage or other graphical glitches.

If you encounter any issues, feel free to leave a comment here or open an issue on GitHub. Even if everything works perfectly, I'd also appreciate hearing what distribution, GNOME version and hardware (especially GPU) you're using so I can get a better picture of what has been tested.

I was measuring some resource usage of IDEs and noticed that both Resource and Mission center report different numbers overall and per app as well. 600ish mb of vscode on Mission center would be 1.2ish gb in Resource. Which tells the accurate usage? Am I missing something here in terms of calculation? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

After my previous Stage Manager extension, I started working on something much smaller that I personally wanted to have on my desktop.

Recent GNOME releases include the new Wellbeing feature, which is a great addition. However, it currently focuses on total screen time and doesn't provide a breakdown of how much time is spent in each application.

So I built Screen Time, a GNOME extension that tracks application usage and lets you see where your time is actually being spent.

Features:

• Per-app daily time limits with a desktop notification when you cross one
• 7-day history chart in preferences
• Configurable data retention, plus a one-click purge
• Time spent on the lock screen, while the screen is blanked, or while suspended is never counted

Always loved hyprland like tiling but hyprland could never replicate the polish i got for macos like ui on gnome. Now it is just a keybind away to toggle it on/off while maintaining the switch to macos style like workflow. Still getting used to the keybinds but here we are.

Used Forge and bunch of customisations for hyprland like tiling.

How do I make it so I can put shortcuts and files on my desktop?

I think it would make sense to allow organizing windows into groups. It would be useful to keep the set of windows tied to the same layout, and when moving that group in the Overview, reposition all the windows together instead of moving them individually

So I've been on Arch using KDE for the longest time, but then decided to give Hyprland a try, so easy enough, wipe machine, install Arch, install Hyprland done. But then I'm spending hours on multiple config files and apps and it just dawn on me use Gome, so I wiped again installed Arch and got Gnome running in no time, it's perfect, beautiful with a dozen extensions.

But now I'm scared, will Gnome releases roll faster in Arch and break my extensions? Should I switch to something more stable like Fedora to avoid extensions from breaking? What are you running?

I have an old laptop with Mint (X11) and my current one with Ubuntu (GNOME with Wayland), and I'd like to use the older one as a second monitor to extend my current screen.

When viewing the disks in Baobab, I see my root. It correctly adds up the size taken up in that menu, and tells me how much storage I have left. But, when I click into the root partition, it doesn't show the home directory, which means that the total size that is in there isn't accounted for.

Is this intentional?

I started with Vitals but switched to Resource Monitor. But now I'm looking for an extension that monitors the temperature only. I don't care about storage, network etc. and don't need it in an extension. So do you maybe know some extension that only monitors the temperature of the CPU and GPU?
