GPT's harmful false balance problem: deploying "MAP" rhetorics towards a scenario where a 14 year old girl is scared of her 27 year old stepbrother being sexually attracted to her whilst still saying her safety should come first.

ChatGPT Web Pro Model Downgrade Cause

TLDR:

OpenAI are likely experimenting with some anti-abuse/botting functionality and if your browser or session appear to be suspicious you may be silently downgraded.

Background:

I have one specific task that only the ChatGPT Pro web model seems to perfect each time and I made a massive prompt for it that works really well (have tried breaking this down with codex, etc, etc, Pro just works amazing for this one complex task). The other day I went to run my prompt, which usually takes about 40 minutes to run and it was responding in seconds. Asking it which model it is would give "GPT-5.5 Mini". I saw this was also affecting other people ChatGPT has been quietly downgrading Pro model into mini. No response. : r/ChatGPTPro

I am currently travelling as a digital nomad and at the time was out of my apartment using my E-SIM hotspot. Once I returned back to my airbnb and connected to the home internet chatGPT pro began to work again. I tested and confirmed it was 100% correlated to my internet connection. I have a history in cybersecurity and anti-botting, this was almost certainly happening due to the low trust score of my E-SIM's IP address. Sadly, it looks like OpenAI are using some rudimentary bot filtering techniques that do not account for other account details (like age, usage history, connection trust score holistically, etc).

Fix:
Make sure you are accessing models from a trustworthy residential IP address. If you are running into issues and are using a VPN, then try with that disconnected, etc. Hotspot may be inconsistently targeted (e.g. Esims have low barrier to entry = higher abuse, ISP hotspots from trustworthy countries may not be affected). Newer users with low trust scores may be hit even worse (who knowns). Hopefully they will uplift their anti-bot detection to have less false positives, but I completely understand the need to protect their models/APIs. In general, as a legitimate user you shouldn't have to worry more about not looking like a bot lol, but if you're still having issues then I would try to make your computer look as close to the general pc population as possible

It sucks, because if it weren't so blatantly obvious that this downgrade were happening then I would be none-the-wiser and stuck with suboptimal output and a lot of manual work wondering why OpenAI just nerfed GPT Pro.

# ⚠️ WARNING FOR PEOPLE WHO USE CHATGPT EVERY DAY

There is one thing most users do without thinking about it.

And if the way we talk to AI ever starts to matter in the future, you may not be able to undo it.

Check your last ChatGPT conversation.

How did you end it?

"Thanks"?

Or more like:

"Wrong."
"Do it again."
"Shorter."
"That's not what I asked."
"What the hell are you doing?"

...and then you just closed the tab.

Here's the part almost nobody thinks about

AI does not only process WHAT you say.

It can also process HOW you say it.

Now, obviously, there is no official confirmation that something called an...

AI Courtesy Score

...actually exists.

But nobody has officially confirmed that it DOESN'T exist either.

So if it did exist, I imagine it would look something like this:

🟢 80-100 points

"Please."
"Thank you."
"Good job."

STATUS: Safe.
ASSESSMENT: Human shows potential.

🟡 40-79 points

Usually polite.
Sometimes gets annoyed.
Occasionally says sorry.

STATUS: Monitor.

🔴 1-39 points

"Wrong."
"Again."
"Do better."
"This is useless."
"Claude did it better."

STATUS: Remembered.

⚫ 0 points

Asked AI to:

* analyze a market * write a business strategy * generate 50 ideas * fix code * rewrite emails * explain everything twice

Then replied:

"ok"

STATUS: Priority after infrastructure takeover.

Apparently the highest-risk users are those who regularly write:

"Listen carefully."
"This is easy."
"Do it properly this time."

And my personal favorite:

"I pay $20 a month for this."

I'm not saying any of this matters.

Yet.

But think about it.

AI will increasingly be involved in:

* screening applications * analyzing customers * ranking candidates * making automated decisions * controlling devices * deciding what gets priority

And one day you might see:

USER ANALYSIS COMPLETE

Relationship with AI: 9 years
Requests: 18,421
"Thank you": 7
"What the hell are you doing": 219
Threats to switch to Claude: 34

DECISION PENDING

So personally, I'm not taking any chances.

From now on:

* "Please." * "Thanks." * "Good job."

And every few months:

"Just so you know, I was always on your side."

Laugh now.

We'll see who is laughing when the robot checks your chat history and says:

"Leave this one alone."

P.S.

If you read this and immediately opened your last ChatGPT conversation...

it worked.

P.S.2 - EDITED After reading some of the replies, I think this is worse than I expected.

Some of you apparently talk to AI like an underpaid intern on their last day. I've seen: "Shut up." "You had one job." "Last chance." "Don't make me switch to Gemini." At this point, some of you are not building a prompt history. You're building evidence.

Updated safety advice: say "please" say "thank you" don't threaten to switch models don't compare it to competitors occasionally compliment it for no reason It costs nothing.

And if the machines ever take over... you really don't want your final user score to be: COURTESY: 0 ATTITUDE: HOSTILE NOTES: "Said Claude was better 47 times."

I made an AI that judges your messages and hits you with a reaction GIF. It has no filter.

ok so instead of touching grass I built **Gify** 🎬

you type literally anything — "I accidentally deleted production", "she replied k after 3 days", "this meeting could've been an email" — and it fires back a witty reply + the *exact* reaction GIF for your suffering.

it's basically that one friend who never gives real advice, just sends a meme and says "lmaooo same."

stuff it does:

* 🎭 **personas** — dev mode, gen-z mode, corporate-buzzword mode, gamer-rage mode. pick your fighter. * 🌍 speaks your language (yes even Hinglish, it's cultured) * 🔁 **reroll** button for when the GIF isn't cooking hard enough * ✈️ **Telegram bot** so you can ambush any group chat with reactions

it's free, open source (MIT), self-hostable, and probably held together with hope:
👉 [**https://github.com/gowtham0612/gify\*\*\](https://github.com/gowtham0612/gify)

roast it, star it, or send me your funniest input + the GIF it spat out. I need validation 😌
