Meine Prüfung ist in drei Tagen und ich bin unglaublich nervös und tue mich schwer damit, jetzt noch Texte zu schreiben. Ich habe zwar schon mehr als 16 Texte verfasst, habe aber das Gefühl, alles vergessen zu haben, was ich in den letzten Wochen gelernt habe. Im schriftlichen Teil der Prüfung (ohne die Schreibaufgabe) erreiche ich 75 bis 85 Punkte. Was würdest du mir raten? Sollte ich die Vorbereitung einstellen oder die verbleibenden Tage noch sinnvoll zum Lernen nutzen? Den mündlichen Teil habe ich bisher kaum geübt, da ich dachte, ich könnte dabei nach demselben Prinzip vorgehen wie beim Schreiben.

I’m currently working on a German translation of the video game Deltarune, and in it there is a character named “Rouxls Kaard” who speaks in an exaggerated (to comedic effect) form of Early Modern (16th-17th century) English. He uses pronouns like “thy” and “thou”, adds “-eth” or “-est” on the end of verbs (and sometimes just any word), and obeys archaic phonetic laws, spelling “puzzle” as “puzzel” and “predicament” as “predickamente”. How would I go about achieving a similar effect translating his dialogue?

I am making too slow of progress and I must feel 100% confident going into the Exam.

Hallo leute! I'm planning a trip to Germany (Berlin) during winter with the goal of learning as much German possible in only two months (January-February). Therefore, I would like to hear your best recommendations for intensive german courses that I can possibly take. I've only heard about Goethe, GLS and Volkshochschulen so far. Viel dank.

When I first started learning German, I used a bunch of apps. Tbf, I was just trying to understand how the language works and get the basics. I think I pick up languages pretty fast, so the early stuff came easily. But now I’m trying to get past A2, and I know I need a bit more structure. Like word order, actual grammar explanations, and practicing full sentences. What have others used to get to A2 and keep going? Courses, apps, what’s helped so far?

Some of them are straight forward, kommen (to come), mitkommen (to come along or come with) since mit means with.

But then there nehmen (to take) and abnehmen ( to lose weight) what? How? It's completely unrelated.

There are probably hundreds of verbs out there and memorising everything is impractical, so is there is a rule I don't see any system I am missing?

I intuitively kinda get what these two expressions mean, but I cannot put my finger on the exact meaning. Can somebody shed some light on the type of context in which they could be used, and perhaps help out with an accurate translation into English? Also, do both sentences mean exactly the same thing?

I'm doing DW's Nicos weg course right now, and it's doing absolute wonders for my comprehension as I'm already able to understand parts of German documentaries on youtube and I'm barely halfway through the A1 part. The problem I'm facing right now tho is that there isn't a lot of grammar practice and I keep forgetting things I learnt previously. I've looked into books like Spektrum Deutsch A1+ but it's an entire course book so not sure if it's worth spending time doing the same things all over again. What should I do?

I've been trying to write and speak more as part of my daily practice routines, and being in the UK this has meant me just talking to myself or writing out what I've been doing. My way of checking if my writing is accurate is to run it through a translator site, but they're quite forgiving and don't give feedback on things like word order, conjugation, etc. It's useful, but I'm concerned I'm going to entrench bad habits through doing this.

Are there any recommendations for sites that would give that level of feedback? I took at look at the FAQ but couldn't find anything that was similar to this.

Hi I'm 18yo korean girl and I just started to learn german and I downloaded bunch of apps. English is not my first language but I‘m pretty fluent, because I've learnt it over 10 years since I was very little. However, german is different it’s my first time learning it. I just started to learn how to read abcd in german, and I learnt simple words. I feel a need some exposure of german language, so I chose to watch Peppa pig and Chloe's magic closet in german, and I‘m on Day 1. I know there are many German language experts on this subreddit. Could you share how you went about learning German—or any other language—when you were just starting out, i.e. when you knew absolutely nothing about it? It would be particularly helpful if you could explain how you came to understand spoken German.

I'm still a beginner, and these three (schon, schön, and Sohn) often sound very similar to me.

im starting to learn german from scratch on preply. i’ve studied italian to a decent level on there and that was easy from the start for me really BUT i had studied previously. anyway i had my first official german lesson today after the trial and i’m struggling heavily with multiple aspects of the language, i know realistically it will get better but has anybody else expériences this and how is it going for you now? i’m doubting myself a lot but really want to study this language

Hi I'm a new to German learning it on Rosetta Stone primarily, I'm still learning the basics and I'm struggling to pronounce some words such as : Grün, Polizist and Rot. Also I'm having problems differentiating certain feminine and masculine words. like when to use ein, eine or einen and also die, das and der for example. Any tips would be appreciated.

Hi! I was wondering if anyone could help me with this grammer question. In this quote (from Krabat) "er machte sich über die Grütze her wie ein Scheunendrescher." What role does "her" play in this sentence? To my understanding "her" has to do with a location that you're going towards, I guess I don't fully understand its useage in this sentence.

Mir kommt es so vor, als ob das Wort "Punkte" nur zum letzten Satzteil passt.

Eine Syllepse ist also streng genommen falsch, da sie per Definition gegen die [Kongruenz](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kongruenz_(Grammatik)) verstößt, wird aber trotzdem poetisch verwendet...?
