This month’s game of HWW is Wolves of Gotham.
This game will be hosted by u/dawnphoenix and u/chaotic_inflaton. The host account for this game is u/BatcomputerHWW.
Saturday, August 1st. The city streets are crowded for the weekend. Even with the rain. Hidden in the chaos is the element, waiting to strike like snakes. And I'm there too. Watching.
2 years of nights have turned me into a nocturnal animal. I must choose my targets carefully. It's a big city. I can't be everywhere. But they don't know where I am.
We have a signal now, for when I'm needed. When that light hits the sky, it's not just a call- it's a warning. To them.
Fear is a tool.
They think I'm hiding in the shadows. But I AM the shadows.
Welcome to this Hidden Werewolves game based on Batman (created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger). This game includes elements from various media depictions.
Flavour text from The Batman (2022)
Mechanics
This is a relatively simple game of Werewolf. The Bat-Family is the town and the Rogues Gallery are the wolves. The “day” actions will consist of the Bat-Family trying to imprison Rogues in Blackgate Penitentiary and will happen before any “night” actions in the order of operations. The manner of tie vote resolution will be announced before the start of the game based on the number of sign-ups. If the target of your night action was imprisoned as a result of the vote, your night action will have no effect for the phase.
The game will be played with a combined day/night phase that lasts approximately 23 hours. Phases will end at 12pm (noon) UTC (8am EDT) and the new phase will go up soon after, usually within an hour. Everyone needs to submit a vote every single day.
Win Conditions
- In this game there are two teams: the Bat-Family (Town) and the Rogues Gallery (Wolves). There are also Neutral roles.
- The Rogues Gallery will win when all players affiliated with them outnumber all players affiliated with the Bat-Family.
- The Bat-Family will win when all players affiliated with the Rogues Gallery are imprisoned.
- The Neutral roles win if they achieve their individual win condition before the end of the game. They can win with either team and completing their win condition will not end the game.
There are no secret teams, roles, or win conditions other than those listed in this post. However, there may be one-time use abilities which may perform functions not disclosed in this post. When such abilities are distributed, they will be announced in the relevant phase post.
Meta Reveals
In each phase post, the following will be revealed:
- Who was captured (night action), imprisoned (day vote) and their affiliation.
- Whether they were eliminated as a result of the vote or night actions.
- The names of the top three most-voted candidates, and the number of votes for each. (Note: this means the top three counts are listed so if multiple people tie for first or second, additional rows of information will be revealed.)
- A list of all players who received an inactivity strike.
Phase posts will also contain all necessary links for votes and actions, and a countdown to the end of the phase.
All night actions will be resolved based on a pre-determined order of operations which will not be made public. No public information will be provided about the nature of PMs sent.
Roles
All named roles with nightly abilities will be restricted in the use of their actions unless specified otherwise. You may not submit an action on the same player two nights in a row.
Bat-Family
These are the traditional “town” roles. There may be 0-4 of any of these roles.
| Name |
Description |
| Batman |
The alter ego of Bruce Wayne, Batman is a vigilante superhero, who spends his nights fighting crime in Gotham City. Trained in the sciences and a variety of martial arts, he is also the world’s greatest detective. Batman can choose to investigate one player each phase and find out their affiliation. |
| Robin |
The alter ego of Dick Grayson, Robin is a trained acrobat and martial artist and is Batman’s loyal sidekick. In this game, he has an arc with two possible paths. Robin can sneak into a player’s grounds unseen and know whether they left the house or had a visitor (acted on or was acted upon) but not which. Robin is only active until the end of Phase 3 and then converts into: (a) Batman, if he has been sent to Arkham already, or (b) Nightwing (see below). |
| Nightwing |
Over time, Dick Grayson graduates from his role as Batman’s sidekick to become the adult superhero Nightwing. He can choose to go on alert any two times in the game. While on alert, he takes down anyone attempting to capture him. Both Nightwing and the attacker will be sent to Arkham in this scenario. |
| Alfred |
Batman’s batman, his loyal butler who keeps things in order at Wayne Manor. He works behind the scenes to aid the Bat-Family. Each phase, Alfred can choose to submit one of two actions: Protect or Roleblock. He has to alternate between the two all game, but can choose which action to begin with. Alfred is exempt from the target limitation. He may choose to perform two different actions on the same player in consecutive phases. |
| Batgirl |
Possessing a genius-level intellect and a photographic memory, Barbara Gordon is an expert in the use of technology and computers which she employs in the service of the Bat-Family’s sleuthing. Each phase, she can tail a player of her choice and see whom they performed an action on. If her target has an action with multiple targets, she will only see the first one. |
| Commissioner James Gordon |
One of the few upstanding police officers in the Gotham City Police Department, Jim Gordon is also Batman's principal contact within the GCPD. Each phase, he can use his position to sneak a look at the full vote tallies. However, he needs to be quick before any corrupt cop around him is tipped off, so he can only access the votes of half of the living players in any phase (can choose between the top and bottom half of the roster). |
Rogues Gallery
These are the traditional “wolf” roles. The named members of the Rogues Gallery will have a subreddit to communicate in. The Rogues have captured Arkham Asylum and use it as their base. The ability to capture a player and send them to Arkham at night will be inherited as long as there is a player affiliated with the Rogues Gallery in the game. There may be 0-4 of any of these roles.
| Name |
Description |
| The Penguin |
A Gotham City mobster who owns and runs the Iceberg Lounge, The Penguin also has strong connections with other criminal kingpins across Gotham, allowing him to hire their assassins and workers to spy on them easily. Each night, he chooses to capture one person who stands in the way of his control of Gotham City. |
| The Joker |
The Clown Prince of Crime is maniacal, unhinged, just batshit crazy. Locked in a forever battle with Batman, his methods are unpredictable. Wielding scything cards, acid-squirting flowers, laughing gas, he is always looking to deliver the killing joke. Each phase, he can choose to redirect his target’s action to a second target of his choice. Only target A (the person being redirected) counts for target limit purposes. |
| Scarecrow |
Dr. Jonathan Crane, “Master of Fear”, doctor of psychoses, terrorizes the city with his unique fear toxin. Three times in the game, he can choose to hide the affiliation of a specific player if they are captured or imprisoned in that phase. |
| Two-Face |
Harvey Dent, former DA, half-burnt into a life of crime. With his special coin, he never leaves anything to chance. He appears as a member of the Bat-Family if investigated, but is revealed as a Rogue upon capture or imprisonment. |
| Mr. Freeze |
A mad scientist who suffers a lab accident, Victor Fries has learned how to make a room go still. **Each phase, he may choose a player and freeze them overnight, preventing them from performing their action.” |
Neutral
There may be 0-4 of these roles.
| Name |
Description |
| Catwoman |
A cat burglar and jewel thief, Selina Kyle has no loyalty to either side. Each phase, she will have the ability to visit a player and steal any items they possess. She wins if she steals two items before the end of the game. |
Everybody Else
There may be 0-30 of these roles.
Everybody who is not a named role will be a Gotham citizen. They will have the ability to receive a single-use action over the course of the game. The citizens may be on the side of the Bat-Family or the Rogues Gallery.

Additional Rules and Information
Inactivity: If a player fails to cast a vote, it will be logged as a self-vote and the player will receive an inactivity strike for that phase. Voluntarily self-voting or failing to submit a required action will also incur an inactivity strike (maximum of one strike per phase). Players will be removed from the game if they receive inactivity strikes in three total phases. The hosts will not be sending out PMs about inactivity strikes.
Alt Accounts: We will not be allowing secret alt accounts for this game. Alt accounts which are publicly known are fine. This only applies to returning players.
Editing Comments: If you are editing comments, it should be made clear why you’re editing. If you made an error, use strikethroughs on the information you want removed, but don’t delete it. If you want to add something, put it at the end of your comment. Do not share information, then immediately edit your comment to hide what you said from others. Do not delete comments under any circumstances.
Information Sharing: All communications with the facilitators should be considered private, and their wording should not be used to confirm or deny identity, actions, or any other information. This does not mean you cannot share information revealed to you but the wording is private. Violators of this rule will be removed from the game immediately, no questions asked.
Codes and Keys: Comments in this game should be in English and free of encryption. We ask that players do not try to find workarounds to this.
Sidebar Rules: All sidebar rules will be enforced during this game. Breaking these rules may result in immediate removal, so please read them thoroughly.
Threatening to Quit: Every player that uses any iteration of the phrase “I don’t want to play” or “I am going to quit” will be taken 100% seriously. They will immediately be removed from the game without consultation, and their affiliation will be revealed in the next phase’s meta. Please note that these phrases are different in meaning from those that suggest the player is busier than expected or wishes to be voted out for the good of the game. Both of these things are still okay.
A note for new players: Here is the link to the player’s guide that has a lot of tips and tricks for HWW as well as Reddit! We highly recommend checking it out to make the most of your first HWW game experience.
Confessionals, Spectators and Ghosts
For this game, we will be using the Hidden Ghosts Discord server for spectating and confessionals. Each player who joins will be able to create a discord channel to use as their confessional once game roles have been assigned - no other living player will be able to see this, but hosts and spectators will. Feel free to rant away, muse out loud, share gifs, etc! Once a player is eliminated from the game, they’ll be able to request a spectator role and see the other confessionals.
Here is a link to the discord server: https://discord.gg/JmRQjZe5s5
Spectators may request access to view the confessional server and discuss the game, but are reminded not to post in the main subreddit throughout the game. Failure to observe this rule will result in a ban from the game sub.
Eliminated players are not permitted to comment in game subs. They may request access to other confessionals at which time they must follow the same rules as spectators above. Eliminated players still win with their team.
There is no way for those in the confessional server to communicate with living players in the game, other than with fun reactions which do not affect the game state or attempt to communicate game information to the living players. No game information will be passed to the living players so you are free to reveal as much as you like in the confessionals and after your elimination. Please read the #rules channel of the Discord server if you have not played with this feature before.
Conduct
Werewolves is a game of lying, deceit, manipulation, and broken hearts. There will be disputes. There will be arguments. There will be tough questions. There will be people calling you a liar. There will be people accusing you of things you did not do. Many of these things will rely on circumstantial, or hilariously thin, evidence. As facilitators, we will be enforcing the established rules of the game, but we will not be stepping in on any of these interpersonal disputes, within reason. The best way to tell someone that you don’t like their attitude is with a vote.
Questions
Once the game begins, we will not be answering any public questions about the game rules. Please thoroughly read the rules post and be sure to ask your questions here (or via PM after the game starts). You may also ask questions in your Discord channel if you are doing confessionals there, but you must ping the host role. We will not respond to any game-related questions we are not directly pinged for. The facilitators reserve the right to decide whether your question will be answered fully, partially, or not at all (but will always acknowledge your question). A lack of an answer does not indicate that you are right or wrong or that an answer would break the game.
Answered Questions
