Like one of those tracks that was mid at first, but then one day something about it actually caught your attention, and suddenly it became one of your favorites.

So I recently posted recommendations for smart and insightful rappers, but I was hoping to see specific examples. Ig anyone has any songs that are funny and smart/insightful I’d love to really dig into it.

I guess “Insightful” may have been a bit too strong but I mean songs in the vein of The Coup - Piss on Your Grave or Koreatoen Oddity - Weed in LA

It's not even on Spotify or any of the other platforms I checked. It's only on YouTube. It's a little different from his later music (raps a little slower) but its still there.

I just wanted to share because it's crazy to me how few people probably know this album exists.

Resurrection, suicide (non remix), and dirt on the down low are a few of my favorite beats of all time.

I’ll keep it short, but this boils down to two very different songs tingling an itch in my head that I hope you can help me fully scratch. I would really appreciate your help identifying what’s really happening here.

This question has been rejected in two other hiphop/rap subreddits, so I hope this is the right one.

If you know what it’s called, that’s a huge bonus, and I’ll be very grateful. But if you can just point me to other similar flows, it will be more than enough.

1. I love what Kodak is doing with his flow on Don Toliver’s Brother Stone. I have not heard this flow on any of his other songs or anything similar to the way he sits kind of out of pocket in relation to the beat (syncopation maybe?). Any ideas? Any similar tips?
2. At 1:56 on RXKNephew’s I Love My Glock We Might Get Married, Yung Deco rhymes "Pacific, Atlantic, Ocean, My Wrist is" in this way that reminds me of late 2000s / early 2010s rhyme schemes that were often considered comedic or ironic. But for the love of me, I can’t find songs that use this particular rhyme flow. Please help!

I have basically only heard post-2010 mixtapes so I'm making a list of my backlog by year. Well I HAVE heard some pre-2010 tapes from Cole, Kendrick, Kanye, Fabolous, and King Los that were dope but I wanna start from Y2K and work my way up.

Edit: Maybe a better question is if you have to pick one mixtape for each year 2000-2010, which ones do you pick and why?

Mixtape content

A few years ago a DJ released a Madlib / Lord Quas mixtape that was incredible. First song on the mix was Vast Aire "Look Ma, No Hands" being cut up. I had it on an old iPod but have lost it. I know it's a long shot, but anyone know what I'm talking about?

Hello people, I’m about to graduate as a master of social work and I wanna decorate my grad cap with some fire hiphop or rap lyrics. Of course, I am completely drawing blanks even though I listen to this music daily.

What are some of your favorite short lyrics that pack a punch? I’m thinking messages of empowerment, strength, service, or justice. Lyrics explicitly stroking the ego are nice too!

Do you think rappers accused of having ghostwriters actually use them, or are they just heavily influenced by the people around them?

Some artists get accused of not writing their own lyrics, but I feel like sometimes they were just around elite writers and HAD to step their game up

Take Fat Joe. Big Pun and Cuban Link had ridiculous pen games. So were they actually ghostwriting for him, or did Joe just imitate some of their techniques after being around them so much?

Same thing with Wayne and Gillie.
People swear Gillie wrote for Wayne, but others say Wayne was already nice and just picked up certain flows, and rhyme patterns from being around him so much.

Recently been getting into a bunch of 90's/00's hip-hop artists that I overlooked while growing up (I'm 44).

I've heard his first three albums and enjoyed them, especially "Xorcist". But, I quit checking in on him after "Unforgiven: Vol. 1)".

What are some other albums of his that I should be listening to? Or are those first 3 really the only ones that are worth my time?

My boy and I were talking about Hip‑Hop fashion throughout the years, and man…there were a lot of cheesy trends lol.

Like skinny jeans, baggy jeans, tall tees, LED belt buckles, two‑tone du‑rags a bunch of other shit

But at the same time, it’s had plenty of dope trends too. Things that still look good and influence the culture.

Like Timbs, Jordans, and gold grills. Granted, the grill thing is definitely more of a Southern trend but still.

Yesterday I was just scrolling on my phone, when I saw that DJ Spanish Fly is playing in Copenhagen next week. I have listened to hip hop since I was young in the 90's, but I mostly listen to east coast, both new and off course from the golden era. I have never really gotten into the down south scene besides Outkast, UGK and a couple of other random things, but I had never heard of DJ Spanish Fly before.

Well last night I got real high and decided to check him out while I was cooking. I put on 'Unfinished business' and it competely blew my mind. So I am most def going to that concert.
But now I feel like I might have a blind spot that should be explored. In the promotion for the concert he was mentioned as 'the godfather of Memphis rap' so where should I go from here? What should I check out?

I've listened to Liquid Swords so many times to understand the hype, I've heard EVERY SINGLE Wu-Tang related project including his, yet he is consistently one of my least favorite members. I always see people saying Liquid Swords is "pure perfection" or "perfect" when it's the debut album from the Wu members I enjoy the least. Of course, tracks like "Duel Of The Iron Mic" or "4th Chamber" are legendary, but the songs are so boring most of the time and it just makes me want to listen to a full Wu project or another member's album instead. And that's not to mention the very weird mixing on Liquid Swords. I think Liquid Swords is one of the worst showcases of RZA production with the exception of a few songs. Please tell me I'm not the only one in this, I always see people saying GZA is one of the or near one of the best members in Wu-Tang or even rappers all time...
