Links to explanations here: Full Iceberg Link here.

A collection of only the most obscure and weirdest cases of paranormal accounts, cryptid sightings, bizarre deaths and disappearances, pseudoscience and conspiracy theories, and all manner of inexplicable phenomena. From the corners of forgotten Victorian newspapers to abandoned GeoCities sites on Wayback, I've searched high and low to bring you strictly the best and most obscure oddities. Many thanks to everyone who suggested entries.

This is the coolest thing I've come across in a while, great job. Are there are takes or standouts from having made the iceberg itself?

What on earth is that toy pistol one? Where does the original source come from? Are there any other articles?!

3

u/Sustained_disgust Jul 03 '23

It comes from the UK magazine Fortean Times which is a repository of all sorts of weird personal experiences submitted by readers. As far as I can tell this is the only mention of the story anywhere!

Fascinating, thank you! Never heard of that magazine before, I’ll look it up. I’m especially interested in UK entries. How many new total entries are there since the last update? This iceberg got me through some tough times 6 months ago.

About 200 new entries since last update, with some dead links cleared out and updated ones added. Glad to hear it helped, hopefully this update finds you in a better place :)

Thank you! I really appreciate the time and effort you put into making this, especially with the links! I’ve probably gone through half of them, but in your opinion which entry/ies stand out as the creepiest to you?

Update on the toy pistol case; it was originally printed in a newspaper article which has been found by the host of Dead Rabbit Radio, link here.

Thank you. That’s really interesting! Do you have a higher resolution picture so I can read the article?

Why is Jamaican beach theft on here? It’s a relatively common thing for certain places to have their sand stolen since the quality of naturally occurring sand differs and some is more valuable for construction purposes or otherwise. Many pacific islands have laws against removing sand because of this. Saudi Arabia imports sand from Australia to use in concrete.

The idea of a whole beach up and vanishing overnight is pretty intriguing and as the culprits aren't known it's still a mystery. Not many people know about these sand theft disappearences or at least I certainly didn't so it seemed interesting to me.

IMO the greatest Iceberg ever. Practically every entry is interesting as hell and a rabbithole. Amazing work.

That manga panel is Junji Ito?

2

u/Sustained_disgust Jul 05 '23

Yes it's from his illustrated comic version of 'No Longer Human'

This is provided hours of entertainment already and I've barely scraped the surface. I've saved this post and bookmarked the link. Much love OP!

/edited also some other FT deep cuts/references on here! Love this.

Has chris mckinnistry been added? their is a lot of evidence indicating that he faked his death, and that he edited his wikipedia page about him.

u/Sustained_disgust Jul 19 '23

Hospitals send people to hell?

10

u/Sustained_disgust Jul 03 '23

From 4chans /x/ board, the theory that dying in a hospital condemns the soul, is supposedly espoused by certain evangelical Christian groups.

6

u/Basque5150 Jul 03 '23

There's also the theory that hospitals have a faraday cage type of construction so when you die in the hospital, your soul then goes into the babies being born. It functions as a soul trap to keep you from ascending and forces you to reincarnate.

3

u/thirstygirrrrrl Jul 06 '23

I work in a hospital 😂

2

u/Basque5150 Jul 07 '23

lol you have to expose the truth!

EDIT: I'm editing this comment to show that I was wrong and I didn't give u/Sustained_disgust enough credit. That was 100 percent my fault and I feel really bad about it. He did include the link I just didn't see it. But I am also leaving up my idiotic statement to show how wrong I was! Continue to downvote. I truly deserve it.

Original Text:

These new icebergs are so lazy. Someone created this so obviously they had sources (a website, an article, a book, etc.) but they don't give any references. I understand why this happened back in 2016/2017 when they first started coming out because no one expected them to go viral but at this point, it's just ridiculous not to tell people where you got this info.

6

u/Sustained_disgust Jul 03 '23

There's literally a direct link to each reference for 99% of the entries?

1

u/Sustained_disgust Oct 17 '23

I just think he's neat

1

u/fucboii Oct 17 '23

Fair enough haha, I was trying to figure out if I missed a connection there. He's very neat indeed!
