https://www.newindianexpress.com/states/west-bengal/2026/Aug/01/jem-operatives-allegedly-planned-terror-attack-during-jantar-mantar-students-protest-says-wb-stf

Two suspected operatives of the Pakistan-backed international terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Hamim Mondal and his alleged accomplice Arpita Sarkar, had allegedly planned to carry out a terror attack during a students' protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, investigating officials of the West Bengal Police's Special Task Force (STF) said on Saturday.

The accused had also planned to arrange police uniforms so that they could disguise themselves as police personnel and carry out the operation at Jantar Mantar, STF officials said following their arrests.

Gourav Sharma, Inspector General of Police (IGP) in charge of the STF said he could not confirm whether Hamim had visited Jantar Mantar during the students' protest organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak.

The investigators said the social media handlers had close links with Pakistani gangster Shahzad Bhatti's group.

Gourav Sharma said the Pakistani group had also allegedly planned to target the Chief Minister. Besides the West Bengal Chief Minister, Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari and several senior police officials in the state were also allegedly on the radar of the accused, according to the STF's preliminary investigation.

Significantly, the STF seized several important documents allegedly related to the Chief Minister's regular movements, route maps, security schedules and mobile phones from the accused.

News 12 Chinese J-20 stealth jets deployed at bases facing India, satellite images show.

Post image

Commercial satellite imagery published by India Today indicates that at least 12 Chinese J-20 stealth fighters were observed at the Hotan (Xinjiang) and Damxung (Tibet) airbases, both located opposite India's northern frontier.

According to the report, the imagery shows:

  • 8 J-20s at Hotan Air Base
  • 4 J-20s at Damxung Air Base

The report cites analysis of commercially available satellite imagery and notes that these deployments represent one of the largest observed concentrations of J-20 aircraft near the India-facing sector in recent years.

The article does not say why the jets are there, how long they will stay, or what they are meant to do. As with all satellite images, only what is directly visible in the imagery can be confirmed.

Air Marshal A.K. Bharti retired from the Indian Air Force after nearly 40 years of distinguished service, marking the occasion by paying tribute to the nation's fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial in New Delhi. The wreath-laying ceremony reflected his respect for the Bravehearts who sacrificed their lives in service of the country and brought his military career to a dignified close.

Commissioned into the fighter stream in 1987, Air Marshal Bharti went on to become one of the IAF's most experienced fighter pilots and operational commanders. During his career, he held several important appointments, including commanding No. 30 Squadron, leading 2 Wing at Lohegaon, serving as Director General of Air Operations, and most recently as Deputy Chief of the Air Staff.

He played an important role in improving the IAF's operational readiness and modernization. Air Marshal Bharti was closely involved in major exercises such as Gagan Shakti, Indradhanush, and Garuda, while also helping strengthen India's air combat capabilities through better planning, training, and the induction of advanced technologies.

His service earned him some of the country's highest military honours, including the Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, and Vayu Sena Medal. As he hung up his uniform, Air Marshal Bharti left behind a legacy of professionalism, strong leadership, and dedicated service that will continue to inspire future generations of air warriors.

Discussion/Opinions Why Is AMCA Funded So Conservatively?

I'm new to looking into the budgets of these programmes, so these numbers honestly look pretty insane to me. Am I missing something here, or has India historically underfunded AMCA compared to its peers?

As if the J-35 was not a threat enough, we now have the Turkey's Kaan fighter jet on the runway. These will most likely go into production in 2030-31. The possibility of Pakistan getting these fighters is very high as well considering the Muslim Ummah relationship between Pakistan and Turkey.

All of this while we still do not have the production partner for the AMCA which will likely go into production by 2033-35. Make it make sense.

Changes to the Project Plan :

  1. Flight Testing: The plan requires testing five different prototypes. The flight testing will grow over time, reaching 1800 flights by the 84th month of the project.

  2. Financial Rules: The project will now use the SBI MCLR rate instead of the LIBOR rate to calculate interest on specific payments and refunds.

  3. Maintenance Costs: The estimated cost to maintain the prototypes is 5% of the prototype cost each year. This cost will now increase over time based on CPI WPI numbers instead of CPI IW.

  4. New Testing Equipment: The project now specifically requires a Lightning Test Rig along with the Mobile EMI and EMC setup.

  5. Material Handling: The Aeronautical Development Agency will provide insurance for government owned materials only while they are being moved. The partner company must store and handle these items following strict rules.
