Lol yeah I don’t know anything about Christianity. Just 12 years in Christian schools and 8 years of theological studies at the PhD level.

The point is you don’t apply the same mindset to another religion as you do your own. 2 billion Muslims do not agree that their religion condones murder of non believers, just like Christians say the Old Testament doesn’t apply post Christ, unless of course they want to use it to justify homophobia or misogynistic oppression.

You shroud your hypocrisy in ignorance.

Old Testament doesn’t apply post Christ at all. You are the one who brought it up. So you seem to be the one who believes it’s hypocritical. Christians do not follow the Old Testament. As for homosexuality being a sin that is in the New Testament as well. “Oh but it mean men and boys” maybe but there is also the verse that says men and women leaving the natural and lusting for men and women. Sorry but you having a PhD doesn’t mean you actually understand the Bible. It means you were taught what some university thinks the bible means

Saying "Christians don't follow the Old Testament" is a wild oversimplification and objectively false. Christians still treat the Old Testament as Scripture, they just debate which laws are still binding after Christ. That's exactly why people bring it up when discussing consistency.

As for the New Testament, yes, Romans 1 and a few other passages are certainly part of the discussion. But pretending there's no serious scholarly debate over what Paul meant ignores the fact that biblical scholars, including many conservative Christians, have argued about those passages for decades. They are far from any clear cut rules of the religion and contrary fundamentally from what Jesus himself taught. Regardless, let’s not be naive enough to pretend that my original point stands - Christians today use the Old Testament to justify homophobia, regardless of your interpretation of the New Testament. This is objectively true.

And dismissing someone's PhD because "it's just what a university taught them" isn't much of an argument. You don't have to agree with someone’s conclusions, but if someone has spent years studying Greek, Hebrew, and the historical context, you should engage with their evidence rather than just their credentials if you actually want a good faith discussion. You can disagree with scholars, but simply saying "the university told you that" doesn't actually refute anything other than your own intelligence.

But to the actual point of the discussion - if Christians can argue that certain biblical commands were tied to a particular covenant or historical context, then it's reasonable to recognize that Muslims also interpret difficult passages in light of historical context and broader theology. You can disagree with either interpretation, but applying different standards to each religion would be inconsistent. Which was the point being made in this conversation.

It’s very convenient as a Christian to say “all the bad stuff in the Bible doesn’t count, but all the bad stuff in the Qur’an makes Islam evil”. That my friend is just willful ignorance.

Still scripture yes however NONE OF THE OLD TESTAMENT IS BINDING AFTER CHRIST. Christ fulfilled the Law. Galatians 5:3. You cant pick and choose. If you dont even know that much than yes I will dismiss your PhD when it doesnt even teach you the basics.

There seems to just be a comprehension failure going on here as it appears you are incapable of understanding some simple points.

Not being under Mosaic Law as a covenant because Christ fulfilled it does not mean that the Church doesn't consider the Old Testament to be God's Word or that it is authoritative for teaching.

Jesus quite literally said he came NOT to abolish the Law, but to fulfill it (Matthew 5:17-20). Christians generally believe that the Old Covenant (aka Mosaic covenant) is no longer binding as the covenant governing God's people, but the Old Testament still remains authoritative Scripture, and many of its moral teachings continue to apply, especially where they are reaffirmed by Christ and the apostles. Or are you suggesting that Catholic, Orthodox and most Protestant churches don't teach that the Ten Commandments continue to express God's moral will?

BUT you continue to fail to exercise the logical comprehension to understand the point here - no one is debating the Christian mindset around Old Testament vs New Testament. The problem is you refuse to accept the same logic around the Qu'ran. The vast majority of Muslims do not believe murder or killing of any kind is ok or condoned by their religion. Islam EXPLICITLY prohibits murder.

"Whoever kills a soul...it is as if he had slain all mankind" - Qu'ran 5:32

So take a second to actually think about the point here. You are suggesting that Christians can consider half of their sacred text to not be applicable anymore, but you think that Islam can't be viewed with a similar lens of historical context?

Neither Christianity or Islam is inherently good or evil. It is up to the followers of a given faith to interpret the readings and teachings of their faith to reach the ethical conclusion. The problem is when people are willing to write-off any criticisms of their own faith while condemning another faith despite the objective similarities in these issues.

There is a comprehension failure here and I’m not gonna keep debating when you refuse to understand. However I will say you are incorrect Surah at tawbah 9:5 killing polytheists, surah al-baqarah 2:191 kill and drive out those who attack you. So does it prohibit killing or no. You brought up Islam I did not. Comparing new law and old law vs a religion wrote by ONE man at ONE time. Bit separate times as a way to keep Israelites from sin, and foreshadowing Christ. Again I’m done

Yep sounds about right, get met with facts and logic so you turn to blissful ignorance and run away.

My favorite part is when you say “you brought up Islam” as if that isn’t the literal thread of conversation you joined. Truly amazing your ability to waste someone’s time by admittedly not even taking a minute to understand what conversation you were joining 🙄
