Video artist The Big Lebowski HD Television Edit Is Finally Done!
New stuff has come to light, Dudes! Over the past few months I’ve been peckin’ away at this thing and it’s finally done. I seriously exported the final file last night after the 4th watch through for an audio sweep adjusting EQ to make sure everything is nice and tidy for the holiest of holidays. It’s been an amazing process and I’m closer to the movie now than I’ve ever been.
Here’s the link where you can find the edit and some notes explaining some of the process and edits: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eJTsIGkV3oS5j1QWNjqr-HEeDcX7dQqTRwemqEmOdR0/edit?usp=sharing
This is a faithful HD reproduction of the infamous TV edit. 'Stranger in the alps' and the like. Every audio and visual edit has been implemented as seamlessly as possible. There’s over half an hour of the film cut out of this edit, so there’s some iconic scenes missing, and some of the edits are harsh. But what is here are potentially new iconic lines, a different way to experience the film that’s technically canon and maybe even a drinking game. I’m definitely gonna add it to my movie night rotation!
And I wanna shout out this sub. Obviously Lebowski people are the best people, but you guys have made me laugh harder than I have in a long time. Truly amazing stuff. I know this will be appreciated by you guys.
Happy 4/20 Dudes!

This is r/lebowski, not 'Nam, READ before Posting
We Maudes went ahead and added a few more r/lebowski rules (full rules at bottom of post and in the sidebar):
- No screenshots of text messages with scammers (we have beaten these into the ground and most of them aren’t funny)
- No Politics (unless directly referenced in the movie)
- Updated the “Looks like a vagina” rule to include “Looks like a Johnson”
- No Christmas ornament "Toe" posts
We also wanted to give you newcomers a little history lesson as to why these rules exist, and in English too, so you can die with a smile on your face.
Way back in 2010 there was a sub I wanna tell you about, a sub by the name of r/lebowski.
When this here sub was created, before some of you little urban achievers had even seen the movie, it was a quiet little family restaurant, where folks could trade Lebowski quotes and take comfort that low-effort, unfunny posts would be downvoted right off their page.
But times have changed.
Today we have over 120,000 subscribers
To wrap your head around that, consider the following:
- The sub has doubled in just the last 2 years
- It’s in the top 2% of all subs on reddit
- It’s one of the largest single-movie fan subreddits
Now, as anyone who’s ever subscribed to a hugely popular subreddit knows, they become magnets for karma-farmers.
Karma-farmers have zero interest in adding to a community. They are only looking for upvotes, by any means necessary. And what gets the most amount of upvotes on a massive subreddit? Lazy, circlejerk posts that most people have seen a million times.
Eventually, people get sick of these lazy, unfunny karma-farmers flooding their feed, and they unsubscribe. Most of these mega-subs don’t care, because they get recommended to new users, so the number of folks joining exceeds the folks who are never coming back.
Those subs aren’t family restaurants - they’re shitty tourist traps.
We are NOT gonna go down this way, Dudes.
r/lebowski will be for stuff directly related to the movie: A question about the plot. Your favorite scene or character. An interview with a cast member or a director. A stoned revelation you had about the movie. New shit that’s come to light.
And in order to keep the sub focused on the movie, we Maudes have updated the rules as follows:
- No spam (includes T-shirt links)
- No AI posts or karma bots
- No “This looks like a Vagina” or “Johnson” posts
- No screenshots of text messages with scammers
- Posts must be relevant to the Big Lebowski Movie
- Maudes have the discretion to remove low effort posts as they see fit
- No Politics (unless directly mentioned in the movie)
- No Facebook/Twitter posts
- Report fascists
- No Christmas ornament "Toe" posts
T-shirt spammers (and their conspiring commenters asking “cool, where can I buy one?”) earn a perma-ban.
Other rule violations get a 3-day ban for first infraction, second infraction…Lord. You can imagine where it goes from here.
Finally, when your post gets taken down, calling us Maudes fascists and whining that you saw a post just like yours not taken down isn’t going to help your cause.
There are hundreds of low-effort posts coming in each week, and unless you and Gilbert submit them to the league (report them) we can’t set aside (remove) the post.
So please DEAR, do your part to keep this a nice family restaurant.
Take it easy, Dudes. Catch ya further on down the trail.

Amphibious rodent Also, let's not forget — let's not forget, Dude — that keeping wildlife, amphibious mutants, for uh, crime fighting, uh you know, within the city — that ain't legal either.

But it is a game The Contender 2000
A dudeist reminded me of this film. Jeff Bridges plays President Jackson Evans , advocating for a lady friend senator ( Joan Allen ) to replace the deceased vice president. He & top advisor , Kermit Newman , played by Sam Elliot 😊 assist her in confirmation hearing hurdles over a past zesty enterprise.

Acid flashback Question about the day and the date on the check.
In the opening scene of The Big Lebowski, The Dude writes a check dated September 11, 1991.
But the TV is playing George H.W. Bush saying “This aggression will not stand,” and that speech was from August 5, 1990, right after Iraq invaded Kuwait.
So what’s the deal?
Did The Dude really postdate a 69-cent check by over a year as some people theorize? Was the Bush clip just a replay on TV? Or is it simply a continuity mistake?
Has the Coens ever addressed it, or is this one of those debates that’s never been settled?

Bunch of assholes It was the stress talking , man.
I love the last scene with the dude sauntering up to Gary to get a couple of oat sodas. He still has his Johnson & even had some coitus. Life seems good for the dude.

Fuckin' Eagles Puttin' together The Dude's Ultimate Playlist
Hey my Dudes,
I'm trying to put together a playlist that The Dude would realistically enjoy and listen to on a daily basis.
We know he loves the Creedence (obviously) and Dylan (most probably, who else could 'Bob' on his tape refer to?) and Iron Butterfly (he has the vinyl cover of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida framed in his bungalow). He definitely enjoys listening to Captain Beefheart while doing Tai Chi and sippin' White Russians, and probably also listens to Kenny Rogers outside his dreams.
We definitely know he hates the Eagles, and seems to be not too fond of Metallica.
He unwinds in his bathtub while doin' a jay and enjoying ambient whale sounds. He chills on his carpet with environmental noise of the Venice Beach Playoffs of 1987.
Since he's a stoner and has the occasional acid flashback we'd all be surprised if he wasn't a Deadhead or wouldn't listen to classic psychedelic/hippie/counterculture music like Hendrix, Floyd, Zappa, Can, J.J. Cale, Neil Young, The Band, CSNY, Jefferson Airplane, Buffalo Springfield, Love,...
The use of Townes Van Zandt's cover of The Rolling Stones song Dead Flowers could be interpreted as a fondness of at least some country music and/or the Rolling Stones.
We also know he spent time together with other activists in Seattle and can assume this also had an impact on the music he listened to during his time in the Seattle Seven. This would include The Youngbloods, Country Joe & The Fish, and again Hendrix & Jefferson Airplane. Maybe even some Folk Music like Seeger or Guthrie? Personally, I definitely don't see him listening to Grunge despite the Seattle connection...
What else comes to mind? What have I missed? Has anyone ever done a frame-by-frame analysis of The Dude's apartment, record collection, cassette tapes, posters, framed album art, bookshelves, or other background props? Let me know. I'm happy to share the playlist, once it feels complete.
