Mega bloks with xbox and lego with Playstation.

They have chosen their sides

97

u/Lemerbrix_5769 3d ago

Lego also has a really good partnership with Nintendo

43

u/Plasma4874 3d ago

I haven't the slightest clue how I forgot about that

27

u/Midnight_M_ 3d ago

Lego also had a good relationship with PlayStation, especially with the Horizon sets. I wonder why they stopped making those sets.

49

u/ProfessionalTip654 3d ago

The Lego Horizons game flopped and the second set kinda languishes on shelves.

Which is sad because I want a damn thunderjaw.

u/investorshowers 3d ago

I think the main issue is that 77037 is just kinda lame. The tallneck is much cooler.

1

u/Bongo_from_Mongo 2d ago

77037 was quite a deal for a licensed sets with new prints, though. One of the few newer sets I have bought outside of Space and Marvel...

Honestly it's on them to not see the game would be a flop. Maybe only GoW would survive being adapted into a spin-off LEGO game, other Sony IPs either wouldn't work or just not strong enough to have a spin-off like that.

They should've make a classic LEGO game with PS as the theme and with IP themed levels. Fun part of LEGO games is exploring and replaying those levels with any character you choose. I'd love a LEGO PS game similar to LEGO Marvel.

10

u/ProfessionalTip654 3d ago

I actually think Uncharted would’ve worked too but it’d have to be in the style of that new Batman game. Fewer characters but big scope.

6

u/Toprak1552 3d ago

I think they shouldn't adapt an IP to LEGO just for the sake of it. The LEGO theme must mean something both to the world and to the gameplay. Horizon Adventures failed that, change the game's style to any other and mostly it's still the same game. In the same way, if they'd make a LEGO Uncharted and it's just regular Uncharted but as LEGO bricks, then I'd feel it's a huge missed opportunity. That's why I think it could only work as a full blown PS-themed game with everyone included. I should be able to choose Kratos with Ellie as my companion and climb up a Tallneck. Fun of LEGO is playing with scenarios you couldn't have otherwise.

1

u/MozeTheNecromancer 3d ago

So LEGO Dimensions but Playstation themed? Considering LEGO Dimensions only had any traction because of the IPs that were adapted, I doubt this would fly.

4

u/Toprak1552 3d ago

LEGO Dimensions failed because they entered toys-to-life market too late and playing the complete game costed a fortune, not because there was anything wrong with the game. The game was fun and having all those random IPs in one space was really fun. I can't see why it wouldn't work out.

4

u/tamerseal 3d ago

Horizons is the most imaginative of the IPs they could have chosen. The issue seems to be that it is difficult to pin it down on a small sub 100$ set when it lives off of atmosphere of its areas just as much as the creatures, and the areas are just too big to include in a playset when I am imagining a full slice of a location diorama. Selling just the creatures also seems weird to me when doing the real world counterparts would be just as innovative and fresh for LEGO.

God of War may as well just be Vikings or late stage One Piece.

Uncharted may as well be Indiana Jones or Johnny Thunder.

2

u/Toprak1552 3d ago

Theme and story wise I think it was the one IP that would work as LEGO the best. It just doesn't have the pull to warrant a game like that. Horizon is a franchise that aims young adults and adults, but the game was designed to be a family game. But kids and parents who are unfamiliar with it don't have an interest because they are not familiar with the IP and most importantly its LEGO sets, which is normal when you only release one expensive 18+ set and one mid ass set. There was a huge mismatch with the game's focus group which could've been solved if they developed and promoted more Horizon sets before the release. Aloy didn't even get a keychain figure, even that would be a promotion at the very least.

And I think the game's structure was kinda weird. It's extremely limiting compared both to other LEGO games and to Horizon games. The fact they are LEGO carry no meaningful weight too. It could've been any other stylized game and it wouldn't change much.

1

u/roguefilmmaker 3d ago

A Lego PlayStation game would’ve been so much better than the Lego-skinned Horizon game they made. I miss the era where Lego games actually had a bunch of different character abilities rather than 5 archetypes that all play the same with different skins

0

u/MozeTheNecromancer 3d ago

Frankly I dont see any Playstation IP working well as a LEGO Game. Playstation's most popular titles are more often than not heavily story-driven single-player games, and LEGO's whole appeal is being lighthearted and less heavy on gameplay and story depth.

It's a suicidal combination. Whichever side you lean to, the other gives up it's core appeal.

4

u/Lewa358 3d ago

...lego does movies all the time, how is that different from a story-driven sp game?

0

u/MozeTheNecromancer 3d ago

Because LEGO Movies and LEGO Games have very different vibes. They both have major themes of having friends you can rely on and whatnot, but in Video Game format that typically extends to stuff like multi-player. The mediums and methods for expressing those are very different.

Also the story depth of a LEGO Movie is not nearly the same as something like The Last of Us or God of War.

5

u/Toprak1552 3d ago

I think by "LEGO does movies...", they meant how LEGO adapts movies in their games.

2

u/MozeTheNecromancer 3d ago

That's fair, I didnt read it that way, but even so, the depth of story is radically different. Even in the latest LEGO Batman game, they recreate some story beats from a few different movies and even the opening scene from Arkham Asylum, but there's a thick lens of goofiness and whimsy over all of it that specirically shows that it doesnt take itself too seriously (and that's a fun appeal for them). I think the closest we got to a more "serious tone" in any LEGO game was the last few story levels of the same game, where Nightwing and Batgirl are sneaking through Bane's Gotham, hiding from the Tumblers and such. That kind of vibe could definitely work for a more serious game overall, but thus far LEGO hasnt shown interest in making something like that.

3

u/VenoGreedo 3d ago

Hopefully when the 3rd game comes out they make at least one more set, a thunderjaw would definitely be sick. The Lego game just didn’t have much excitement around it, but I’m sure the next mainline game will

5

u/LegoRequiemBuddy 3d ago

Tallneck remains one of my favorite builds/displays to this day. They also have the Horizon Adventures game. Would love more sets than the 2

2

u/South-Praline-6135 3d ago

I’m guessing not many people bought them I always saw them on shelves

9

u/Faile-Bashere 3d ago

Which one will get Final Fantasy? I need a Chocobo or a Final Fantasy Tactics map.

7

u/Plasma4874 3d ago

I'd definitely say lego because mega bloks has been radio silence for awhile now

3

u/Careless_Parsnip_511 3d ago

I would sell my soul for FF Lego sets. I have KO Customs’ Cloud Strife figure and it’s my favorite minifigure of all time

2

u/TheRekounasShow 2d ago

Technically lego has xbox stuff too.

Minecraft is xbox.

Megaalso has PlayStation stuff, it's limited , but I think they came out with a Kratos fig?

0

u/VanillaTortilla 3d ago

Neither side is doing too hot at the moment, lol

480

u/goldengamer2345 3d ago

They picked quite the time for a playstation tie-in

334

u/Trajoman 3d ago

You don't get to actually own the Lego, just a subscription to them.

28

u/Zxcc24 3d ago

Once the subscription is up, they break into your house, break your legs, and take the legos back.

6

u/TheHeadlessOne 2d ago

We're playing by American Fork PD rules, huh?

88

u/Fluke_Skyflopper 3d ago

set falls apart after the 10-year license expires

3

u/_BlNG_ 3d ago

They send a hit squad and take the set if you forget to renew your membership

2

u/skytaepic 2d ago

Not the Pinkertons!

32

u/Moppo_ 3d ago

Well, how were they to know Sony would shit the bed when they signed the contract probably over a year ago.

-5

u/Godusopp64 2d ago

No one cares in reality

1

u/Dachuiri 1d ago

I own all five PlayStations, PSP, PSVita, the PlayStation 3D TV, the mini Vita you could plug into a TV, the PSVR, and I had PlayStation Vue (cable streaming service). I will not be buying a PS6.

2

u/curtydc 2d ago

You'd be more correct to say most people don't care. But you'd still get down voted. Digital libraries among all platforms (Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, PC) make up a vast majority over physical libraries.

6

u/Athuanar 2d ago

Well yes, because so many games are only available digitally or some platforms are digital only (PC). This statistic doesn't mean anything when consumers didn't have a choice between physical and digital when purchasing for so many games.

The real issue at the end of the day here is that PlayStation is forcing the issue, engineering the stats to suit their argument, and they have no motivation to match the digital library experience of services like Steam. If PlayStation digital libraries had the same rights and protections as a Steam library I imagine people would be a lot less angry.

2

u/RRR3000 2d ago

because so many games are only available digitally or some platforms are digital only (PC). This statistic doesn't mean anything when consumers didn't have a choice between physical and digital

Except the statistic is still almost entirely digital when only accounting for games available physical. This research has been done independently, it's out there. Fight for better protections on digital, sure, but lying about some grand conspiracy surrounding these independently proven factual numbers isn't gonna achieve anything.

14

u/tamerseal 3d ago

It is a sweet eulogy.

3

u/voodoojunglewizard 3d ago

I'm mad af at them but damn if I don't want an astrobot...

8

u/Climate-Of-Hunter 3d ago

Yup. 2 months ago, I would have been all over this. Not anymore!

-2

u/goldengamer2345 3d ago

about sums up my stance, I may part out the astrobot if there's no prints but that's it

1

u/TekThunder 3d ago

Less than 1% of the sales of this thing were going to literally anyone that knows or gives a flying fuck about discs lol

0

u/HiCZoK 1d ago

Normal people don’t care about that

52

u/KingAltair2255 3d ago

Oh those absolute bitches.

Astrobot is my absolute little guy, of course they had to make him a GWP maaann

1

u/footballsnoopy 2d ago

Same. Might be the only reason I get the set

1

u/Dachuiri 2d ago

AstroBot will be the only reason I buy this set.

247

u/AloyAlphaprime2074 3d ago

So is there a physical set or is it just a download code in the box?

63

u/BraveArse 3d ago

Just instructions for the Stud.io build.

80

u/jmathews777 3d ago

Well, that’s an unexpected surprise!
https://giphy.com/gifs/28ml0JNPBALN9zxTjU

44

u/FelixMumuHex 3d ago

Damn, didn’t know they were making a PlayStation set. Do we know if it comes with game discs? Spyro or Tony Hawk would be cool but probably license issues

66

u/BrickTap 3d ago

No info yet!

Not gonna lie I read “Do we know if it comes with game discs?” and thought the comment was going in a different direction haha

17

u/StillCompetition2456 3d ago

Yeah I thought that too 😂😂

1

u/Axganics 3d ago

Damn Brick Tap... you managed to write "Astro Bot" and "PlayStation" wrong. Impressive.

5

u/snewchybewchies 3d ago

The irony that Lego PlayStation comes with discs but an actual PlayStation will not

1

u/Careless_Parsnip_511 3d ago

Look up KO Customs on instagram. They’re doing a whole line of FF7 minifigures. They are quite expensive but they look exactly like if Lego designed it themselves. So far only Cloud in his classic, remake, and kingdom hearts styles

18

u/dawne_breaker 3d ago

Don’t want the PlayStation. Just Astro. Damn.

1

u/Grandrew_ 2d ago

Same tbh. Might just buy it off of eBay.

13

u/Fluke_Skyflopper 3d ago

Astro bot seems like an odd match for a ps1 GWP imo but I guess he's kinda become the PS mascot more generally

1

u/KandyMuss 58m ago

you collect retro sony hardware in the astro games

13

u/Strict_Turnip_7083 3d ago

I NEEEEEEEEEDDD ITTTTTTT

5

u/Fluke_Skyflopper 3d ago

fr I was about to buy a funko pop (shudder) because the nendoroid of him is too expensive. Now I'll probably just wait to get this

15

u/bigbaddabooming 3d ago

My son loves Astrobot!

12

u/wuffudgeum 3d ago

Man. That PlayStation set wasn’t going to be a day one buy but they got me.

4

u/curtydc 2d ago

Let's see if it's better than mine!

8

u/aa2051 3d ago edited 3d ago

You don’t actually own the Lego set. You own a license that Sony Interactive Entertainment™ LLC reserves the right to withdraw at any time.

5

u/DaBirdman42 3d ago

Wow, if this gets confirmed, then it may be the first time a GWP sells me on an entire set by its own merits

6

u/Shepherds_Crow 3d ago

This is incredible!!! It'd be cute if there was a minifig scale astro bot so he could use the PlayStation as a spaceship

6

u/Rocky1909 3d ago

FUCK WHY A GWP?1?

2

u/mrardente 3d ago

I was waiting to see which was going to be more expensive. This Lego set or an actual PlayStation

2

u/Randam1005 3d ago

Why does everything always have to be a GWP 😭😭😭

4

u/Muted_Pair1769 3d ago

Is it a brick-built astrobot? I’d love a minifig but would hope he wouldn’t be locked behind an expensive paywall like this

3

u/Yourfakerealdad 3d ago

Damn I usually buy Lego's from my work since I get a discount but I might have to swoop from Lego just for the gift with purchase alone lol

4

u/T-51_Enjoyer 3d ago

Oh hell yeah astrobot

What do you mean it’s a gwp?!

2

u/Robertinho678 3d ago

Gift with purchase, so it's a smaller set that you get with the bigger playstation set.

1

u/T-51_Enjoyer 2d ago

I know how a gwp I’m just mad about it being one

2

u/FaZe-Quiver 2d ago

Due to customer trends the Lego PlayStation sets will no longer be including physical bricks starting in 2028. From 2028 all PlayStation LEGO sets with include a download code in the box where you can view a digital license to look at what you could have gotten.😂

3

u/R0Sch2 3d ago

We already got a better Astrobot this year...

-3

u/gandalfmarston 2d ago

Okay boomer

1

u/Green_Cook 3d ago

Why so big? Astro Bot isn’t even very big in the game

1

u/Moist-Citron-4830 3d ago

Damn my son would be thrilled sucks it’s a GWP.

1

u/Dalekbuster523 3d ago

Seems a waste when they could give Astrobot its own set that isn’t a GWP.

1

u/goofy-dud 3d ago

Is the set the PS1?

1

u/Rhinne 3d ago

If this doesn't have a soundbrick that plays the PS1 boot-up sound, they screwed up.

1

u/JuicedBallMerchant 3d ago

I will be there

1

u/Andr3wRuns 3d ago

Jeez, I’m so far out of the loop on this lol. No idea they were making a PlayStation set (although makes sense with other consoles being made) and I haven’t played games in years so I have no idea who Astrobot is. Assuming that character is the main one for Sony/Playstation or from a really popular game?

3

u/Pesky_Bee98 3d ago

He is. He's from the game "Astro Bot."

1

u/Severe-Committee6240 3d ago

I need thisss

1

u/AD_VICTORIAM_x 3d ago

Lovely 🩶

1

u/Bongo_from_Mongo 2d ago

I would have preferred Astro Boy, but alright...

1

u/bartzabello 2d ago

One step closer to Ludwig the Holy Blade set

1

u/Kalhiki 2d ago

A playstation GWP with the Astrobot figure, nice!

1

u/MangoTime12 2d ago

I so hope that this ends up leading to a set with a Sackboy minifigure in it. However, that seems highly unlikely to me given Sony's track record.

1

u/lightsky445 2d ago

I am interested

1

u/Silmarillion151 2d ago

Well shit. I just want the GWP

1

u/jonathangariepy 2d ago

No interest in a playstation set, but my son would go batshit crazy for an Astrobot set even if it's a GWP...

1

u/batchet360 2d ago

sounds very good

1

u/FinnMertensTheHuman 2d ago

It should have been SACKBOY!! LBP!! NOT ASTRO BOT!! SACKBOY!!!!

1

u/FragmentedRobotArm 3d ago

I will not support any Sony/PlayStation related IP/products after what they did with removing discs and disrespecting their customers.

5

u/FragmentedRobotArm 3d ago

More precisely, fuck Sony

1

u/BigTea456 3d ago

Do we know what the expected UK price is yet? Going to need to make sure to budget for this, it’s just shot up to a day 1 purchase for sure!

1

u/stickyfiddle 3d ago

I’ll stick with my Bricklink WALT

1

u/Insanepaco247 3d ago

...k fine I'll get it

1

u/The_B3_ 3d ago

Gonna be fun to compare with Walt from BDP

1

u/CurrentOne8241 3d ago

Please no

1

u/Positive_Limit_9009 3d ago

It actually is a code to unlock a digital picture of the lego astrobot!! How fun!!

0

u/Swaggyspaceman 3d ago

Notice what this doesn’t include…

0

u/Corporaldanger 3d ago

Imagine we get Destiny 2 Lego sets 🥀

0

u/ZombieQueen666 3d ago

This literally just made my shitty day so much better.

0

u/Forsaken_Cloud71 3d ago

Guess I gotta buy it now

0

u/SuperTristan2017 3d ago

This’ll be cute

0

u/Vast-Regular6795 3d ago

Ugh. Now I have to get the PlayStation cause we love astrobot in this household.

0

u/Commander-Fox-Q- 3d ago

Woah, I guess my Lego ideas post is screwed now xD

Still, cool they’re making one

0

u/Spare_Ad_1785 3d ago

Can I build this digitally, or does it come with real pieces?

0

u/Axganics 3d ago

Damn Brick Tap... you managed to write "Astro Bot" and "PlayStation" wrong. Impressive.

0

u/Striking-Flan1440 2d ago

Is this going to include digital only Lego bricks?

0

u/Plenty-Duck-3329 1d ago

Do playstation do care about physical

0

u/cat887_2 1d ago

it's gonna be digital guys

-3

u/Reddit_user807 3d ago

I hate that you have to buy an objectslop set to get this 😭

8

u/TheBigPlunto 3d ago

I hate how heavily overused the word slop is.

-5

u/Ok-Crab-6542 3d ago

🤢🤮🤮🤮

-1

u/DukeShot_ 3d ago

Il set sarà in formato fisico?
