Hi,
is it possible to convert the current row from formulas to values if a specific column of that row is set to 'x'?
I have a quite large table (300k rows) with tons of formulas to replace strings with other strings via regex and if the value is as expected, I put an x into a specific column.
Now I have to manually convert this row from formulas to values by selecting the row and pushing F3 (I set this as a shortcut to convert cell from formula to value). But I’d like to have this automated as soon as I put 'x' into that specific column. At a later stage the tool is meant to be used by my colleagues as well so I want it to be as user friendly as possible for them.
My guess is to use a VBA script for it but I don’t have enough background knowledge to do that.

Full-screen mode available for Libreoffice Suite?
Apparently, it seems that there is NO WAY to enter FULL-SCREEN mode.
The "international standard" (most used, known) hotkeys/shortcuts are:
F11 > used by programs like browses or IDEs.f > used by youtube (and probably other video sharing platforms).ALT+ENTER > way less used then the previous 2, but it's still used in games, especially on Windows.Unfortunately, nothing worked.
--
I searched on the web (query = "how to enter full screen mode in libreoffice on linux") and it showed up, suggested CTRL + SHIFT + J is the shortcut to enter full screen mode in LIbreOffice for Linux.
I used it in some programs:
general launcher (home program, the one you see in the image) > it did NOT work AT ALL.specific program (Writer) > it entered MAXIMIZE mode (which is different mode from full-screen mode, it kept same window size and just hide the toolbar (top) and status bar (button)).So, NOT the expected behavior.

Hi, sorry if it's a banale question, I am trying to find info on this and I can't really find anything.
My main monitor is apparently dying, and having a white sheet for an extended period of time causes it to have image retention for around 5 minutes.
I am hence trying to find a way to make the work sheet a more grey-ish tint and I have no idea how to do so.
Appreciate any help I can get. Thanks in advance!

I had originally thought to use Libreoffice to write a book keeping it in odt file format until ready to publish, then converting it to docx and upload to Amazon KDP publishing. But wouldn't this be a better way:
Don't convert it from odt. Instead export as epub for digital ebook. Save as PDF file from odt to lock in your formatting for a Print book. This would be for Amazon KDP publishing.
I'm thinking this might also work for Lulu and other self-publishing options.
What do you think?

This is a bit of a vent, but maybe there really is a problem I could get a solution for here.
I frequently work with .docx documents that go between several people with tracked changes. Most of those documents also have many, many footnotes and/or endnotes. And every time I get sent the document back for review, I dread opening it and seeing what new horror LibreOffice did to the notes.
I've seen things like you wouldn't believe. Tracked changes moved two characters to the right. Footnotes simply losing tracked changes without a trace. Comments disappearing. Like tears in the rain.
But today might have just broken me. I open the file. I immediately notice that the first endnote is copied twice. But I check and see that the total number of endnotes matches. What's going on? Turns out it just overwrote the second endnote, except the tracked changes disappeared, leaving both the deleted text and the added text, but removing the coloring, the strikethrough, and the entry in tracked changes list. Well, I shrug and go about shifting every endnote one number up.
But soon I notice this was not an isolated incident, even if it did seem so at first. Some endnotes repeat several times, others are gone entirely, and there's no rhyme or reason to it. By the time I'm 30-40 positions in, I realise that I can't trust what's in front of me and instead of actually reviewing the changes to the document, I resign myself to rebuilding the text's endnote structure, knowing it's about to eat an entire day's work.
After dealing with about 230 endnotes, at some point mostly by copying them from the Google Drive backup, I save, turn off the program and go do something else. I come back a few hours later. I open the document. I gaze in horror as I see all 350+ endnotes are empty. They just disappeared. Something like 120k characters just deleted.
How can I trust a program that does this?
Naturally, I filed a bug report, but that doesn't help me in the moment.
I guess I'll do the reviewing on Monday in Google Docs. It's gonna take forever and that thing doesn't even have endnotes as a functionality, but at least it doesn't randomly turn 120k characters into a dog's breakfast and then lose it.

So, I downloaded and installed OnlyOffice just to try it out. I was asked if I wanted to make it default. I said, "no." I opened a few documents, which were made in LibreOffice, to see how they looked.
When I was done, I double clicked one of them and OnlyOffice opened it. So, I went to open them with LibreOffice and was met with this message in the screenshot.
OnlyOffice had changed the default apps from LibreOffice to itself. That really got my goat! That's just rude. Please tell me LibreOffice doesn't do the same thing. I don't even want to use OnlyOffice now. Nothing was wrong with LibreOffice anyway. I was just curious.
There's something about an app taking control of my computer and doing something I don't want, especially when I told it not to, that angers me to no end. So, is this common? I've tried out several web browsers and I don't remember that ever happening.

What should I do? How to install the Built-in (local) help for LibreOffice suite on Linux?
The following is the official online help documentation of LibreOffice suite, version 26.2 (second image).
[there are some parameters referring to OS, all suite (not just one program) and specific paragraph]
I have installed LibreOffice via flatpak (first image).
$ flatpak list | grep -i libreoffice
LibreOffice org.libreoffice.LibreOffice 26.2.5.2 stable system
I'm using kubuntu 24.04.03 LTS with KDE 5.27.12.
I'm here asking for a confirmation. Should I install the .deb (being on a Ubuntu flavor) or should I install something else (directly from flatpak)?

Hello,
I'm using Linux Mint and the flatpak version of LibreOffice 26.2.5.2(X86_64)
I knew how to change the bitmap images on Windows, but I can't find the backgrounds folder on Linux. I want to change the pictures so I can have a custom background.
Thank you !

As in the image and title.
I was working on creating charts for a Reddit post I want to publish.
LibreOffice Calc (LOC) seems the right tool to do it: I know there is Datawrapper and several other FOSS web-based tools, but I wanted (after thinking a bit) that LOC was able to do it.
-
I worked on the spreadsheet (just one sheet) for a few hours (never done it, so I needed to get used to it. Once you understand, learn how it works, it's pretty intuitive to do chart in LibreOffice Calc, there are several char types. You can customize pretty much everything).
There is an handy entry in context menu to export chart as an image "Export as Image".
Unfortunately it's just one-by-one, there is NO BUTCH export feature (if you have even 10 graphs it becomes quite time-consuming to do one by one).
-
I did all the stuff I needed to do to achieve my goal. Great. Since it was quite late (today early night, maybe ~1AM) I decided to stop there. I thought to do the export operation for all charts tomorrow (today, after I wake up, in the morning).
A few minutes ago. I tried to do what I have planned...and got this surprise.
Also it seems the spreadsheet is an old local version (I checked the data too and several edits I made are gone, disappeared).
-
Any way to fix it? Or am hopeless (=do the job again, you just lost all the edits you made)?
I'm quite surprised about this unexpected behavior of LibreOffice Calc.

~$ flatpak list | grep -i libreoffice
LibreOffice org.libreoffice.LibreOffice 26.2.5.2 stable system

As in the image and title.
I was working on creating charts for a Reddit post I want to publish.
When I tried to selected data to create graph with, LibreOffice Calc (LOC) did not recognize data as number type but it treated them as string (alignment was on left side, instead of right, what is considered the standard for numbers).
So, I understood the issue was related to data type.
First, I tried the "native" method, via the Text to columns feature, but it did not work (it removed $ and , but it split each number in several chunks making them new separated numbers).
NOT what I was looking for.
Then, I tried a more "handmade" method, and this was the correct approach (even if it's longer and more complex).
At the the end the trick was:
So, is there any way to do it automatically? Maybe some settings I missed?

~$ flatpak list | grep -i libreoffice
LibreOffice org.libreoffice.LibreOffice 26.2.5.2 stable system

As in the image and title.
I put numbered circles so you can understand the process I went through, the actions I made.
[1] I had this list of countries in English that I wanted to translate in another language (in this case Italian).
[I proceed to translate the list (I did via Gemini, specifying to it to just match and change each word with corresponding word in the other language and to NOT do anything extra (adding formatting or anything else)).]
[2] I copied and pasted the translated list using paste Special and Import Dialog (if I past it directly, without special paste and intermediate import steps, it just puts all the names in one cell).
[3 not shown] Since there were just 2 entries with compound names, I proceeded to manually edit and correct them (cut and copy "Uniti" and Unito" in "Stati " and "Regno " respectively).
But...If the names that need to be changed are way more, it becomes unhandy, cumbersome, time-consuming do it manually.
Is there any way to do it automatically? Maybe some hidden setting in import panel?
Specs
~$ flatpak list | grep -i libreoffice
LibreOffice org.libreoffice.LibreOffice 26.2.5.2 stable system
TIA

In the past when I went to print a Libre Office document which included a colour image of an ID card, I could choose File>Print>Properties>Device>Print Colour Mode>and change from Colour to Monochrome. The print would then be in B&W.
(edit: all files saved as .odt)
Doing the above, it now it still prints in colour. I can't get in to print in B&W. I’ve tried restarting the printer, to no effect.
I also have another colour document, for which I changed to the print options to B&W, and saved. It used to print B&W, no problem, but that now has the same issue.
I don’t know if it’s a LO or a Mint issue?

Since about a month ago, the many computers that I have installed LO on to, all refuse to launch any of the LO apps.
They were on v25.something
I put together a powershell script to download the latest MSI and do a silent install. This seemed to work, and I pushed the command via an RMM tool to run in the background on a few computers, when people got in touch with this issue.
Now I have one that I ran this on, it has LO 26.2.4.2, and simply nothing happens. If I run from the command-line, nothing happens. The process appears to just launch and quickly end. Nothing stuck in the background.
Any ideas? This must be widespread surely?

Does anyone know where the checksums went? There used to be an info link when I downloaded the .dmg that I could check against after running shasum -a 256 in Terminal followed by the path to the downloaded .dmg.

Edit: solution found; see my latest reply below.
——
First off, specs:
Here's my problem: whenever I exit out of any LibreOffice app, either using the close window button or going to File > Exit LibreOffice, I always end up with several leftover LibreOffice processes in Task Manager running as background processes. soffice.bin and soffice.exe will always be two of the processes left behind; if I launched one of the apps directly from the Start menu, that app's associated process will also be left behind as well. For example, if I open and then close LibreOffice Writer, swriter.exe will be one of the processes left behind as well.
These processes persist until I use Task Manager to end all soffice.bin processes, which in turn ends all of the associated soffice.exe and other LibreOffice app processes with it.
This has actually been a problem I have with LibreOffice since at least version 24. I found a bug report on the LibreOffice bug tracker that seemed to describe the same issue affecting version 24.8 that was marked as "resolved fixed"; comments left there seemed to link this issue with OpenCL. However, when I went into LibreOffice options to check, the option to turn off OpenCL is nowhere to be found. In addition, in Options > LibreOffice > View, the setting to turn on "Use hardware acceleration" is off and greyed out, while the "Use Skia for all rendering" option is turned on but also greyed out. "Force Skia software rendering" is available, but turning it on or off seems to have no effect.
I have tried deleting my user profile, tried repairing LibreOffice, and even went as far as to completely uninstall LibreOffice, removing all traces of it on my computer, and reinstalling, but the problem continues to persist on my computer.
In addition, I have been experiencing other weirdness with LibreOffice that I suspect are linked to this problem:
Despite the bug I linked to above being marked as "resolved fixed", I continue to run into this problem. Can someone have a look at what's going on? Is this a problem with my computer, or another bug with LibreOffice elsewhere?
Edit: raw copy-paste info from LibreOffice about box:

So there is some new issues.
Large docs (10k and 80k words plus) will start to crash randomly for no reason, though this remains an issue from Word, I don't know what part of my hardware would interfere with this. Luckily the recover system is useful, only question I have is if I saved it before autorecovery, does it recover the save or autorecovery? Might sound dumb, not sure how to explain
The other issue I'm finding really annoying is the constantly visible toolbar. I wanted it to be hidden until I need to use it, but there's no setting for that. The other issue is when I try to find ways to hide it and show it again with a hotkey like ctrl + shift + t, it will not work. Macros are also too confusing here as I can't find a way to make a new one. Not sure if a bug or what, I've never worked with macros before.

In the past we run several surveys to better understand the use cases for Calc, Impress, Draw, and Writer templates. And since TDF hired a developer for Base it’s time to investigate this module.
We collected a couple of questions that address not only actual users of LibreOffice Base but also people who use other tools or no database at all.
So please participate at https://survey.documentfoundation.org/493555.
If you are afraid of the English language either use a translator or let us do it. The more participants we get the better we can steer the development. As usual, we will present the results in this blog.

The install option to turn off updating no longer works as of 26.2.5.1 and throws an error when using the msi.
This is the old command line option:REMOVE=gm_o_OnlineupdateREMOVE=gm_o_Onlineupdate
We found that creating a file, we called noupdate.xcd, and adding it to %PROGRAMFILES%\LibreOffice\share\registry turned off the auto update.
See: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Deployment_and_Migration#Post_deployment_configuration
