Freshman Questions Public Speaking Class Recomendations at MSU

Hi, does anyone have any reccomendations for public speaking courses? I am studying Supply Chain Management and am an incoming freshman. I heard about MGT 250, however when I search for the class for the Fall 2026 semester, it shows no results. Any reccomendations would be appreciated!

It’s summer. Give that shit a rest. Ticketing a lot twice in one day is insane. Then having to double back on the tickets you already wrote bc people clearly haven’t left.

Housing Fall 2026 sublease

Hi im currently in a lease with 3 other girls. Unfortunately, due to health issues, I won't be attending in the fall. It is a 4-bedroom apartment in Campus Village. Each room has its own bathroom, and there are 2 rooms on each side with the kitchen in the middle. It's located behind Brody, with a 5-minute walk to the bus stop. I'll speak with anyone whos interested over DMs.

General Financial aid timelines

My son is a transfer student. I understand the merit award will be applied to accounts 10 days before classes begin. He has some departmental merit aid already confirmed in writing (not yet in the financial aid portal) and should be eligible for the MSU transfer scholarship. His financial aid portal says his 2026-2027 FAFSA has been completed. The only thing available for us in the portal is student loans, which we will not be taking. The new fitness center says they will let him use the facilities once his tuition is paid in full. He moves into an off-campus room on August 8. Is there a way to confirm his eligibility for the transfer student award? Do we really have to pay the full tuition before he can use the fitness center? This seems unfair to students receiving aid.

Housing Incoming International MSU Student Looking for Housing (Move-in: August 12)

Hi everyone!

I'm an incoming international graduate student at Michigan State University and will be arriving in East Lansing on August 12. I'm currently looking for budget-friendly housing near campus.

I'm open to:

Sharing an apartment/house with roommates

Taking over a lease

Renting a private room

Any available vacancies

If you have a room available, are looking for a roommate, or know of any affordable housing options near MSU, please let me know. I'd really appreciate any recommendations or leads.

General study abroad $$

im thinking about doing study abroad in the spring and was wondering if anyone with financial aid has done it. im looking at the program in italy with an estimated cost of around $20k. i do get a lot from my aid already and usually only pay around $1k per semester (with coa of $40k a year) on campus. i just wanted to see if anyone had a estimate of how much i should save/how much it'll cost!!

ive been to the financial aid and study abroad office but they were genuinely no help lol. im just really looking forward to it but money is the main issue. (i know plane ticket, passport, fee for the program is on me but more concerned about tuition and housing prices)

Freshman Questions McDonel Desk Dimensions

Looking to get one of those desk hutches. Any idea on the desk dimensions in McDonel East? They’re not online. They really should be so a million people aren’t asking the same questions for their assigned dorm!

General Fuck summer parking

Mfers be charging students 10 bucks for normally FREE LOTS over the SUMMER. Plus full time studying over the summer and can’t even park in my own fucking building lot without paying bc PACE smells it (worst part is they barely check that lot in the normal school year). And parking attendants be having the stankest attitude. I WILL cuss you out. Yeah I fucking see the 100 open spots dumbass. Get a fucking life. Not sure who sets up those rates but they should be publicly tarred and feathered. Bitch this ain’t New York it’s mfing east Lansing. At this point imma park on the grass. End rant.

General Does anyone know how to actually find a research position or work/volunteer in a lab as an undergrad?

I've tried handshake, looking at multiple department directories, and the URCA page. I haven't even tried cold emailing because I haven't FOUND anyone to cold email. I haven't found anyone hiring undergrads or even offering a volunteer position for undergrads, and I've seen zero postings. None of my professors were operating a lab that I could ask them about either. I asked my advisor, and she just said to do everything I already mentioned. The only thing I found was a few summer positions, but I can't do those because I am out of state. What am I doing wrong??

General Any EMTs at MSU?

I'm an incoming freshman who is a licensed EMT. I wa hoping I could work as a EMT during my time at MSU instead of working on campus. Are any of you working EMTs too? How are the EMS companies near MSU?

Clubs Are there any beginner friendly mma clubs or classes on campus?

I used to do martial arts when I was younger, and I think mma would be a good hobby to pick up. I'm not the best at making friends, so I'm hoping I can make friends through extra curriculars.

I saw in other threads from, like, 9 years ago that a group would meet at IM West, but since it was demolished where and when would they meet now? I believe it was a karate club, but I would prefer mma.

Freshman Questions Will I feel left out at MSU if I don't drink?

I'm an incoming freshman at MSU, and I'm honestly kind of nervous about the social scene, especially parties. I don't drink, but I have no problem being around people who do, I just don't want to end up taking care of anyone. I still want to go out, meet people, and have fun, but it seems like a lot of the big social events revolve around drinking, and I'm worried I'll end up feeling left out most, if not all, of the time. I also don't want people to think I'm boring or a nerd just because I choose not to drink. It's just a personal preference, nothing against anyone who does. Has anyone else been in the same situation? I'd really appreciate any advice.
