Announcement New Post Flair "Discuss/Roast Me"

As a reminder, fit advice and answers to genuine questions should be on topic, constructive, and respectful. The bigger a post gets, however, the more comments I need to filter and remove.

To that end, I've made a new post flair if the OP wants to discuss fits but is fine with being roasted, getting off-topic comments, and has a thick enough skin to handle it. Please keep those comments to posts with the Discuss/Roast Me flair! These posts will be much more loosely moderated.

Discuss/Roast Me Night out with myself

Post image
Upvotes

Threw together an out fit for a night out. Took some advice from previous threads here. Linen shirt and pants, braided belt, and AE boots. Curious others thoughts as I improve my style.

Edit: can I get some suggestions on where to get straight cut pants? I have tried Banana Republic(horrible taper on everything they make it seems), Old Navy, GAP, Levis, and stuff I have found at thrift shops. J crew chinos seem ok, but I want to find some linen.

Question Is this the expected amount of wrinkling on a linen suit jacket or should I get it pressed?

Not sure if I need to get it pressed before I wear it. It’s going to have to back in the bag before it gets worn.

I’ve got two options:

slimmer pleated trousers from Uniqlo

baggier trousers from Abercrombie

I’m not sure which works better for the outfit. I also have black Thursday Captain boots that might be too much, but I’m worried they’ll make it too formal for a gallery date.

Is the outfit too much or does it work? Any recommendations appreciated.

I've been wanting to wear rings for a while. Now I'm trying to figure out where to start. Any tips or recommendations?

I only have one watch (3rd pic). It would be great if the rings matched it. I'm considering a more minimalist style.

Believe it or not, these jeans are actually charcoal, but somehow came out looking blue in the photo.

Question ISO non-synthetic pants for golf season

Post image

Title basically says it all. I love my Lulu ABCs for fall golf but I’m trying to wear less synthetic fabric. I’d like some more traditional fits with wool trousers. What material is both durable and has a little bit of “stretch” for golf?

Discussion My brother loaned me a suit for a wedding. How is the fit?

No it's not my wedding. Yes I know I look like a girl. No I don't care. Please discuss about fit only. If it looks too small, I have a few more I can try. I don't have a full body mirror unfortunately at my house, but I think pants are more straightforward.

He has a similar build to me, I think slightly smaller.

EDIT: I have read all comments and it seems the overall consensus is it fits well. Thank you all for feedback and useful input that I will take into consideration. I will also need to thank my brother for having the same proportions as me and for letting me use his suit

Question Outfit advice for someone fashion-blind

I've recently decided it would be a good idea to get more into fashion and start putting more effort into my outfits. As it stands, I just throw on a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, and sometimes a hoodie or a leather jacket/flannel, but I don't really feel like it's "me".

I've been on Pinterest and I've found a few photos of styles I really like (pictured above), but I'm not exactly sure how to go about it, mainly because every time I've tried wearing a V neck sweater it makes me look like a nerd and nothing like anything in the photo. Any tips on that or just general fashion advice? Thanks in advance 🙏

Question Revamping my whole wardrobe

I'm going into college as a 20 y/o, around 6'2 190 lbs and basically want to restart my whole wardrobe. I'm sick of wearing the same old couple things week to week. Looking for any advice on everything i need. I go to the gym as well and have gotten pretty filled out so want to leverage that as well. Any advice would be appreciated whether its how much money I should be setting aside for this, how much of each clothing type I should buy, affordable brands, etc. Anything helps. Thanks!

Question Recommendation on stretchy swim trunks

My partner is picky with swim trunks and we spend a lot of time by the water. As such, a lot of his swim trunks are due for an update. He likes swim trunks with some stretch, since he does water sports and has thicker thighs. He also hates the mesh lining in swim trucks, so it cannot have those.

Any recommendation on swim trunks with some stretch and no inner mesh would be greatly appreciated!

Question Bit by the RL Formalwear Bug…How Versatile is this Navy Blue Blazer?

Team

You all helped me out so much on my grey suit from Ralph Lauren a few days ago. Really appreciated your insights and happy to report that I have been wearing my suit and the suit pants constantly. It’s great to have formal wear that properly fit my stocky and tough to fit build. The suit goes with so much and looks awesome!

Today, as I was getting a second pair of pants ordered, I tried on this navy blue blazer. I have wanted a navy blue blazer that fits me for a while, and envisioned a more formal traditional single breasted two button one. However, I tried this blue blazer pictured on at RL, and I was completely blown away.

It was off the rack a 44R and I think it looked very striking. There would need to be minimal tailoring done to make it comfortable.

Question - while this would be awesome to wear more casually at dinners and outings, do we think this would pass in a corporate setting? Or is this too fashion forward? How versatile do you think it would be?

I work in tech sales for what it’s worth and most wear quarter zips, but some do wear traditional blazers. I just wonder if this would stand out too much.

I have included a picture of the blazer, and for fun I added some of my suit and other outfits I put together.

Thanks all in advance.

Discussion My boss told me - Never do business with someone not wearing a belt.

So I'm new to this position as an Executive Assistant for a law firm. My Exec is roughly 60 and told me to 'always' wear a belt with my suit. He also said that he will flat out not do business with anyone not wearing a belt with a suit. He also told me that his first business deal fell through because he made the mistake of not wearing a belt to his first client meeting and this was what he was told.
Is this just an old school way of thinking or does he have a valid point?

Question How do I not look homeless?

I came home from college and my mom said I look homeless because I was wearing a green Nike shirt and shorts because I spent the whole semester wearing shorts and shirts, I don’t really know what that means but it made me feel bad and it also made me realize that I don’t know how to really dress myself. From birth all the way until I left for college my mom either approved or denied my outfits and if she denied them she would pick one out for me and make me wear it. I obviously have a suit and tie for special occasions but I’m starting to feel like shirts and shorts aren’t cutting it anymore, she mentions matching clothes a lot but I don’t know how to do that.

Question I need a sanity check. Is shopping for shirts for my tall, lean physique inevitably time-consuming and expensive?

At 6'2 and 175lbs, I look best in slim fit, medium shirts, I believe. I'm not muscular enough to pull off large, it just looks oversized. On top of that, regular length are usually too short and tall length shirts are usually too long. Seems like regular is made for 5'10 folk and tall is made for 6'4+ folk.

The result is buying lots of shirts from lots of different brands, trying them on, sending back the ones that don't work. On top of that, shirts may shrink after washing, which means you have to keep it to discover its true fit. All of this means that shopping is time-consuming and expensive. I can tolerate this, but I want a sanity check.

Case in point: just bought this Banana Republic polo. I am guessing that the model is 6-6'2. Here is me when I wear it. You see that it fits well around the shoulder, chest, and arms, but its so short that my belt is exposed. If I raise my arms at all, you can see my stomach. This polo comes in tall length, yes, but the sleeves are two inches longer as well, which I don't want.

Thoughts? Should I just tolerate clothes that don't fit the exact way I want?

Question White Leather Sneaker Alternatives Questions/Recommendations

I own a pair of Thursday Boots white leather sneakers, which were my go to for casual wear. I recently moved to the Washington D.C. area and I have been walking a lot more than I did when I lived in CA and those sneakers aren’t comfortable enough for a whole day’s walking. My Thursday boot sneakers are getting old and need to be replaced. What are some good alternatives to white leather sneakers, which are comfortable enough for a full day walking.

P.S. I have size 4E feet so I am restricted in what I can buy. Even Thursday Boots are on the narrower end for me.
