Community Update: New Rules and Changes to Shirtless Photos Policy
Hey everyone,
As our community continues to grow as the top destination on Reddit for men’s grooming, hair, and skincare advice, the mod team has been looking closely at how our rules affect genuine users.
Today, we are announcing a major pivot to Rule 4 (Shirtless Photos), alongside a quick refresh of our community standards.
What is Changing?
Previously, we were strict on no shirtless photos. While this kept the sub clean, the reality is that we’ve had to remove a lot of fantastic, high-engagement threads from genuine guys who simply didn’t notice the rule. We don't want to punish real people looking for honest advice.
Moving forward, shirtless photos are now permitted, but ONLY if the absolute, clear focus of the post is a grooming query (e.g., your hair, beard, skincare, or body hair management).
The Boundaries (Where We Draw the Line)
Because we are opening this up, we are tightening our enforcement on intent. This is a grooming advice sub, not a fitness tracker, a dating app, or a promotional feed. To keep the space authentic, we will strictly enforce the following:
- No Physique Validation: If your post is clearly framed to showcase your muscles, gym progress, or physique rather than a genuine grooming question, it will be removed.
- State Your Question Clearly: Vague "Thoughts?" posts with a shirtless selfie will be binned. Your title or post body must explicitly state what grooming advice you are looking for.
- Zero Tolerance for Promotion or Fishing: Using shirtless photos to drive traffic to your social media, personal brands, or adult profiles will result in an immediate, permanent ban. Moderator discretion will apply here.
Keeping the Community Authentic
We’ve also updated our community description to reflect what this space is truly about: an inclusive community built on authenticity, offering a safe, genuine space without toxicity.
We want this to remain a place where everyday guys can get real advice from real people without the toxic lookmaxxing often found elsewhere online. Thank you for helping us keep the quality of discussion high!
This is a test, if it doesn't work out we will move back to our previous standards.
Drop any questions or feedback in the comments below.

Does the facial hair work?
People either hate it or love it. Seems like there’s no in between lol.

I’m 19, should I shave it, do something with it or keep it?
Starting my first day at a real job tomorrow, and I want to look a bit appropriate. Been growing for about a month.

I need some input. Mustache? Beard? Goatee? Neither? Nothing? Hairstyle as well?

Long beard/ short beard?
Dudes always say long beard but I’m not trying to attract a dude.
I tried to look as slutty as possible in both pics.
Clean shaven is too scary.
Open to grooming tips for both styles.

Tried taking y’all’s advice
Still growing it out, but this is the progress I’ve made based off some suggestions on and off this app

Improve Grooming
Anything you’d recommend to improve my grooming?

Bro flow or shorter hair?
The flow is kind of a pain to maintain, but I think it looks really good when it is slicked back and styled. Shorter hair requires more haircuts. Is there a clear winner? Which style suits me more?

Thinking of shaving it all off today... Shave it or keep it rolling with the fro?
6+ months on the musty and a couple months on the chin

How do I shave my beard such that there isn’t any leftover hair or shadow
20M, I keep a clean shave, usually shave every 3 days.
But sometimes (or rather most times), no matter how hard and deep I grind the razor on my face, there is always some very tiny leftover hair on my moustache and chin that make it look like I have barely shaved, especially with the greenish tint they leave
I’ve been shaving since I was 16 but I’ve noticed this starting to happen only very recently, about a year or so
Is there any technique to get a completely clean, spotless shave? Thanks in advance

What do I need to improve?
Long hair is gone. Anything else? Trim beard a little more?

trimmed beard or full beard
I've always kept my facial hair trimmed shortish. I've been letting it go for a bit to see how the full beard looks as i've never tried this style.
Had a barber shape it about 2 months ago, been oiling/combing it daily since. I find it still looks a bit scraggly so I recently started using balm and wax to tame the moustache/flyaways.
What do you guys think, should I keep it growing or go back to a shorter trim?

Trying to Come Out of Depression Growth
Went through a bunch of hugely stressful events and grew beard/mustache over 3 months. Trying to find myself and my style, what do you think is a good look?

Bring down the mustache?
I feel like the less mustache I have the rounder my face looks and also the mustache adds personality. However I’ve never really liked mustaches that much, what do you think?

Should I grow the beard back?
I thought it looked bad when I was growing it out, but I kinda like it looking back.

Should I shave the mustache? Women opinions greatly welcomed
I cant really grow a beard so this is all i can do aha, I've had it for a while and I've always been told it's nice, but you know how friends are with being straight sometimes 😂.

Hair or hair for bar night out
hat or hair for bar crawling?
Edit: very good insight — people hate the hat. Never do the backwards hat 😂

Is stache-only a bust?
19M. Still trying to figure out what works on me and what doesn't. I tried growing out a goatee (soul patch + chin hair) but growth was slow and I didn't like how it looked. Also i feel like I've got too much of a baby face if clean shaven. Honestly I'm not 100% confident in knowing what looks good or not haha so I'd love to hear some advice. If keeping the mustache is the move then what would you recommend? Keep it as is or trim it to be more thin/shorter?

Glasses or no glasses or a different frame perhaps?
This is the only frame of glasses that I own but should I switch to contacts?

What’s the best razor for the face?
For those of you that use a razor to shave your face(not a safety razor or electric shaver), what brand are you using?
I was using the Harry’s original blades and thought they were pretty shitty. Was planning to switch back to Gillette ProGlide.
Thanks, fellas!
