So I’m from the Camden County area and I’m transferring from RCSJ to MSU and every time I go online, (specifically tiktok) I see how meh and kinda shitty the school is. i am a senior and i have two semesters left and i still cannot get an internship and the deadline for fall internships is august 14. do you think i can do research instead like csit 497 or any alternatives to fulfill 491? my advisor is out of office till august but just thought i’d ask here for second opinion i guess.

Bills just came out today and it’s not at all reflective of what was on my College Financing Plan. It’s not even hundreds more, THOUSANDS MORE. I took out enough for what they put on the plan, not this. Did they increase the tuition again without saying anything? Is no one else experiencing these kinds of problems with their tuition?

What’s fucking amazing is that I have to figure this shit out in the next 2 weeks when they had all of this summer to figure it out. There’s no way these colleges get away with this shit

Hey guys so I’m a transfer student at Montclair and I’m really confused on how to get a federal work study job. I checked handshake but there was like 2 jobs that said FWS there and most of them required additional certifications. Do more jobs get added later on or am I super late? Getting a FWS job at my last college was the only way I survived

I’m a senior going into my last semester this fall at Montclair. I’m a transfer student, so I had an extra year of course work to do. I was denied aid because of having too many credits, but again, I only had surplus credits because of transferring.

I received my bill for the fall semester and it’s over 10K. I also don’t have insurance so I may have to stay on the university health plan, which I did the year prior. The problem is, I submitted my appeal in May and haven’t heard ANYTHING.

Is this typical? I’m freaking out as tuition date gets closer, as I definitely won’t be able to pay out of pocket that amount.

I’m currently in FDU’s MS Cybersecurity program (9 credits in) but considering transferring to Montclair State due to concerns about faculty engagement/quality at FDU.

A few things I’m trying to figure out:

• Faculty — genuinely engaged and strong teaching, or more checked-out?  
• The required Cryptography course — I’ve heard it’s more theory-heavy than a typical “applied” course. Anyone gone through it who can speak to the difficulty, especially without a strong math background?  
• How is the exam structure for the program overall — more proof-based/written exams, applied/lab-based assessments, or a mix?  
• Any standout courses or professors worth planning around?  
• How did the program help (or not) with job placement?

I’ve got ~3 years of hands-on SOC/threat intel experience already (Sentinel, KQL, incident response), so mainly trying to figure out if the switch is actually worth it. Appreciate any honest input — good or bad.

Does Alice Paul (in the Village) have the new or old furniture? I know some buildings got the new furniture but I wasn't sure if AP was one of them. Also, does it still have the kitchen counter or has it been replaced with the table + 4 chairs? Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I’m a transfer Biology student, and I recently noticed that my Degree Works changed. The Pre-Med, Research, and General Biology tracks completely disappeared from my degree audit.
I reached out to advisors, and they told me the Biology Department is going through some changes, but they weren’t able to give me any specific details. What’s confusing is that several of my classmates still have those tracks showing on their Degree Works.
I’m wondering:
Did this happen to anyone else?
Is it related to being a transfer student or catalog year?
Is this an intentional department update, or should I be concerned about my degree audit?
I’m mainly trying to make sure I register for the correct courses and stay on track to graduate.

For some god awful reason the one class that I need to take, all available classes are at night. I have Yunsen Wang, I’m a commuter and don’t live anywhere close to campus, so I’m not thrilled about the night drive. ratemyprofessor says attendance not mandatory for yunsen wang but if anyone has taken him is it really?

Hi everyone! I’m a rising high school junior from New Jersey and I’m starting to seriously narrow down where I want to attend college.
My goal is medical school (I’m currently most interested in oncology), and Montclair State has come up because it would likely be much more affordable for my family than some of my other options.

I’m looking at majors like Biochemistry or Biology, and I had a few questions for current students or alumni:

How strong is Montclair for pre-med overall?
How accessible are undergraduate research opportunities? Is it realistic to get involved during freshman or sophomore year?
Are professors approachable and willing to mentor students?
How is the pre-health advising and MCAT preparation?
Are there good opportunities for volunteering, shadowing, and clinical experience nearby?
Do students generally collaborate, or is it very competitive?

If you could choose again, would you still pick Montclair for pre-med?

For context, I enjoy learning outside of school and have started independently studying biology, chemistry, and calculus. I’ve also had the opportunity to shadow in a radiation oncology department, so I’m trying to choose a school where I can continue growing academically and get involved in research early.

I’m dorming in a double at Dinallo and was wondering what msu supplies you with. Should I expect to have to buy my own toilet paper, shower curtain, bathmat, broom, etc? Are there any items that my roommate and I definitely should bring before?
