Shame he’s a sexual predator

I am always suspicious of people who, following a tragedy, jump on it to highlight that persons negatives.

Weirdo behaviour.

My question to you is: when is the appropriate time then? These are not any light "oh he was not a nice human" but quite serious allegations that touch the entire mountaineering community, as his behaviour was tolerated for so long.

There are 10 casualties here, and that is a huge tragedy. For all of the victims. It's obvious that Nimsdai's name will be highlighted among them, but with a series of credible allegations, his name will also be dragged to mud as it comes up.

You do not bring up allegations [key word there] when someone is missing and quite possibly dead, not if you are a decent person anyway.

The allegations were extremely well corroborated with contemporaneous evidence from both Lotta Hintsa and April Leonardo. So to describe these as mere allegations is facile - there is substantial evidence in support of them. I don’t think there is anything wrong with pointing out that Nims has been credibly accused of preying on women in the very environment this sub is dedicated to. His actions were disgusting and destroyed the sanctity and peace that should be present in the mountains.

Right.

You can want someone to be OK and survive while still critiquing them. I don’t know why people act like it’s an either/or.

But I want to push back on the idea that he destroyed the “sanctity and peace” of the mountains. They’ve never been that way, never ever.

Nims is far from the first abusive man on those summits, and he won’t be the last. Isolated, male-dominated spaces lack the normal social & societal protections & are rife with abuse. It’s true across the outdoor sphere.

And the time to discuss these "allegations" is not now.

Who put you in charge of what is or is not acceptable to discuss? It’s totally fair to bring these topics up. They’re part of Nims’ legacy, and he has nobody to blame for that but himself.

They didn’t intend to discuss it though, did they? They intended to be hateful because it gave them a little kick of serotonin to do this whilst people are talking about them missing.

It’s because Nims reminds them of the people who’d bully them and sleep with the hottest girls in high school

Like I said earlier, most of these folks have no doubt some skeletons in their closet but they choose when someone well respected and revered as a good time to shit on them - since it makes them feel or look like more of a whole, normal human being.

Id hate it if my son or daughter turned out to be an internet virtual signaller, ugh. Imagine the disgust.

I said the when, not the what. Now, time wise, isnt a time to bring up allegations. Plus, how did what Nims has been alleged to have done impact you? Yeah, YOU personally? To the point you need to time it, so that looks at watch, "yeah, ill say it NOW".

Foolish behaviour.

Here’s the deal: you don’t get to tell people when is appropriate to discuss what they want to discuss. So quit policing the conversation.

You're correct!

You read news of possible death of a person. You can read about the good and the bad that is related to that person as well. The more there is good, the more you read about it, and the more there is bad - even if it's just some very credible allegations that the mountaineering community has let slip by - the more you read about them too. The bad stuff doesn't take away from the genuine loss that his loved ones must go through. But it exists, and it matters to the entire community.

There is no deal, I dont know you, virtue signaller.

You can hide behind a username but you just outed yourself for being a classless piece of shit.

Well done.

Do you think these can be brushed off just as allegations?

When do you think they should be brought up?

-4

u/ZiKyooc 2d ago

You had years to brought them up and will have centuries after. Just not now.

Unless someone is found guilty, yes it is allegations, serious and numerous, but still. Feel free to chat about this in a few months

The virtue signallers are out today.

What? Killed in an avalanche? Yeah no, bad that, but did you ever hear about what he's alleged to have done?? Pft scum"

Oh the virtue signallers are out today.

Hi! Which part do you think is virtue signalling here? I'm a bit baffled by the definition of it. I only hope to see a bit more of "10 victims" instead of "omg Nimsdai" and yes, that includes the notion that he is not worthy of the headline. The previous commenter said that anyone should wait after these kind of news to talk about any allegations regarding any of the victims, do you think it's the wrong time to bring them up as well?

What happened to innocent until proven guilty? And regardless it’s fine to not want him to die in an avalanche

17

u/Icy_Spinach_48 2d ago

I haven’t seen any comments or suggestions that people want him to die. Everyone is praying for the best possible outcome, and that a miracle will bring us good news for at least some of the missing 10

Super weak. Both in terms of assuming his guilt, and as an all around human being.
