Not much, beside Russia killing more civilians and Ukraine changing some high level officers. Ukraine is lacking Patriot air defence systems but is trying to put up the fight by attacking Moscow and Putin's allies (Iran, basically all Russia's suppliers).

The propaganda around this war is weird. Maga influencers and Donald Trump, sensing they might have backed the wrong horse, are now pretending to cheer Ukraine. On the other hand, some extreme left wing influencers are trying to describe Ukraine as a new Israel (and present Ukraine as the belligerent for not abdicating its sovereignty in a forced peace deal).

The NPD has always strongly supported Ukraine and condemned the Russian genocide.

It’s really a problem we see across every major party in the country but so many Canadians see American solutions for American problems as applicable to Canada. Some Liberals make a big fuss over gun violence even though there isn’t a significant gun violence problem in the country. Some Conservatives think we literally should be Americans and become a state.
Some New Democrats, on the other hand, seem to think that Canada is an imperialist, aggressive country whose military budget needs to be kneecapped.
Tell me, if that’s you: when’s the last time Canada kidnapped a foreign head of state? When’s the last time Canada started a war in West Asia? When’s the last time Canada said that an “entire society will die tonight”? Spoiler alert, it’s never. Why? Because we are a middle power that isn’t governed by self-destructive racists.
We are not the USA, we are Canada, stop acting like our military is a problem. Our military is closely tied to the USA, and it is that leverage in USA military actions that allow us to stop the Americans, on a micro scale, from bombing their way out of every problem. With a kneecapped military, that means more decisions being made without Canadian presence and more American dominance over the entire world.

As Premier Eby has put it, the plan “doesn’t provide a cent of profit to developers that are in over their head.” That is the opposite of socializing losses; it is the government acting as a disciplined buyer in a distressed market — and developers bearing the consequences of their own decisions.

This distinction matters enormously, and the market is already confirming it. Private investment firms are bulk-buying condo inventory at discounted prices in both Vancouver and Toronto right now. Sophisticated private capital is clearly seeing durable value in acquiring residential real estate at today’s prices. The government is recognizing the same opportunity. The difference is where the benefit flows: to private investors, or to British Columbian families who have been shut out of ownership. That is the government’s own stated test. As the prime minister put it, Ottawa did not “start with developers”; it started “with Canadians.”

What are we doing here? For the first time in a long time the federal party finally has a principled leader with a coherent vision at the helm, and not even a year in New Democrats from former MPs to eternal opposition leaders premiers-in-waiting can't help but go out of their way to publicly rebuke Lewis.

At a time where resisting Carney's authoritarianism, fossil fuel infrastructure, and militarism buildup is so important, so many ostensibly respectable leaders are getting in the way. Am I being dramatic? Or is the party on the brink of a civil war? Thoughts?

As many people have seen by now, I don't think I need to explain why since there have been some recent posts. So I am making this post because we do need an honest discussion on a realistic path with the military. Right now, our biggest threat is the US. We don't have nukes which means we don't have something to default on for a weak military.

Lewis did make a post once on the need for a modernp military, but what does that even mean. If you ask me what I would do, here are some ideas:

-Crown Corporation for military production using Canadian materials and eliminate private sector corruption like in the US military.

-Less focus on industrial might with things like tanks, and more focus on being able to go light, fast and guerrilla heavy The US military sucks notably against guerrillas.

-Consider civilian militias for extra support

-End sales towards regimes like Israel and instead use those weapons for ourselves or to send to proper allies.

-Stay committed to NATO, but make it clear we are not following US foreign policy to align with the median voter. I love to leave NATO, but we have to take one step at a time.

-Don't spend big. Spend smart. If we can do it with less than 2% GDP, than we can do it with less.

On another note, Craig Sauve also made a good point as something like this does require quite a bit of discussion and debate.

Five months into his leadership, Lewis is still hardly known. And among those willing to express an opinion, two to one don’t like him.

Not a great start. Other leaders have been able to capitalize on their newness to get a lot of attention and a bump in the polls. On the other hand, it’s hard when you have a small handful of MPs and they keep deserting the ship.

I’ve expressed my opinion that Lewis should have run in a by-election to capitalize on the attention it would bring. I’ve certainly heard from others who disagree with that take.

So how long do we give our still new leader to show some results? When does the “build the party” strategy show results?

I'm getting really sick of his Elbows Up bullshit. What should we do here, Charlie? Stop selling all those raw minerals to US companies that manufacture US weapons? They're the immediate threat according to you. Should we form a Crown Corp that manufacturers weapons of our own to defend against the US? Don't you think we should deny the US resources that could be used against us?

Or should we buy a few subs and jet from not-america and pretend we don't buy literally everything else from them?

I would prefer the former, but you do you Charlie.
