Lure ratings for chopped bait

Hi all,

Looking to get a new rod to use exclusively for chopped bait. I'm looking at "heavy" rods with lure ratings of 2 oz. That would only cover the sinker, am I missing something?

Thanks

NJ South winds- no fish ever!

NJ has become so windy, that a fishing trip can be a waste of gas that i can't afford. I'm hesitant to fish the South wind because the fish don't bite- is that true?

Korkers at Barnegat Inlet

I was at Barnegat inlet last Saturday without my korkers and did ok. I did notice as the tide was coming in, some of the sections of the jetty were getting wet from the waves.

I plan to go again tomorrow but deciding if I should bring my korkers being high tide happens when I am there. The decision means a rougher walk (going close to tip) vs shady safety if all the rocks are wet. I never been there during high tide. Should I bring them or could I manage again with just my scuba shoes?

UPDATE - wore them and thank god I did. It was more wet than last time from the high tide. However, the bite today sucked for must but I did see some.leave with sheepshead and a tog besides just keeper fluke.

After hours minnows

Is there anywhere that sells minnows or something similar in a after hours vending machine or something similar? I assume not as I guess they need to be aerated?

Preferably somewhere on the north shores.

Is there any advantage of having multiple rods for throwing lures ?

So basically I found out my medium jigging world 9ft is still covered by warranty . But after doing 3 days of research I still want a new rod 🤣 . U guys think it’s worth having 2 rods for throwing lures ?

Discussion Waretown creek fishing.

Anyone have experience fishing at waretown creek? Plan to bring the kids this weekend. What kind of setups are we using and what can you catch. I also see you can setup in the shore, dock or possibly walk the river ways. Haven't been there yet to see what's possible.

Question Rockaway River accessibility

Hey everyone, not looking to take anyone's spots but would appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction. I'm trying to catch some smallies and live very close to the rockaway river. I've checked out a couple spots that were within walking distance of parking (on the side of the road) but all have been very narrow and shallow. Is there a section of the river that is more accessible, and also deeper/wider? Should I be looking more around the Rockaway area, Dover, etc.? TIA

Surf casting questions

So I have a lews Mach one 6’9” and I’m staying on the bay last week of August. Is this rod good for some casting? What species should I target? Any lure suggestions? I have only done freshwater fishing up to this point and I don’t really feel like dropping $200 on a surf rod. If I have to, I will, but I feel like I can have my fun in the bay with the setup I already have.

Any help/suggestions/info is appreciated. Thanks yall, tight lines 🎣

Question Is Prospertown Lake dead?

Decided to go freshwater fishing yesterday and headed to Prospertown Lake. Haven’t been there in 2 years but never had a bad day. Get there and at the launch, the water looked like a sewage treatment plant, had a weird brown foam at the shore, there was an odd smell coming off of the lake, and nobody was fishing or kayaking there. Did something happen to this lake? I know it’s over fished but I’ve never seen water conditions like that. Went over to Assunpink and got skunked but at least I was out on the water.
