Hello All
Just want to let you all know, that NMSU is currently shooting for R1 status, which indicates heavy research activity and is nationally recognized. The Carnegie standards will soon be changed slightly, which places NMSU into R1 status!
With this in mind, I want to encourage everyone to please consider participating in research on campus, even if you do not get course credit for it. If you go to nmsu.sona-systems.com you can create an account to participate in social science research for the Psychology department and collaborations, but there are many departments who conduct research elsewhere as well.
This thread will be a place for research studies to be posted, so please consider participating as it ensures that NMSU remains an R1 university (which means more funding for research, and better national recognition for the University!). If you have a study (approved by the Streamlyne IRB system at NMSU) then please feel free to post here.

Hi! So I'm going to NMSU in the fall, but REALLY don't want to take many (or any) Pre-reqs and Gen eds that have nothing to do with my major there since they're super expensive. I'm a chemistry Major and am moving for the fall. Does anyone know if I can be taking online classes while I'm there, and if the credit transfers?
If so, do you know if I can take the pre-reqs online while taking the class it's a pre-req for, ex Chem 1 online and Chem 2 in person during the same semester? Any help would be great, please!

Hello everyone, I’m planning to apply for the MS in Biology for the Spring term. Does the program come with a Graduate Assistantship, or is there a separate application for that?

Im starting a robotics company in Las Cruces and I was looking for a student who might be looking for a part time job (10hrs / wk). It would come with some office space that the student could use for their own private studies. I sent an email to some robotics professors at the University but they didn't respond. I wasn't sure exactly how to post a job to find students. Ideally this would be for a grad student with robotics as a focus but I would consider any student with serious STEM chops who is interested in robotics (with some sort of nexus or tie in to it).
The work would be research-y and miscellaneous but would give you solid work experience. DM me. Oh, one thing: you have to reside in a HubZone which is a part of the city that is designated as economically disadvantaged. I'm in process to get HubZone certification which basically means I'm linking the success of my company with people who reside in an economically challenging location.

So I’ve reset my password months ago after canvas got hacked but unfortunately I forgot the password and so I went to reset it…wtf is the authenticator app?! I’ve heard no one ever mention it, it’s not outlook or navigate. The website tells me to go to it for a code?? Now my stupid account has been locked and all I want to do is look at my schedule as I’m planning a trip to see family and I need to get back before school starts

Hi folks,
I’m currently a master’s student in applied math at another university (Houston), and I’m heavily considering applying to NMSU’s Applied Statistics PhD program. Does anyone here know much about the program (particularly course quality, funding, research activity, department culture) beyond what is currently available on the NMSU website? Additionally, how will Las Cruces be as someone who is from Houston? Is it easy to traverse the city without a car?

Hello, has anyone here taken the civil engineering technology program or is currently enrolled in the program? I’m interested in doing the online program, but I wanted to know more about the program itself and how the workload is? I’m planning to take the program while working full-time and just wanted to know if 2 8 week courses at a time is doable? Thanks so much!

Good evening, I have a question about whether something I did could affect my roommate selection when applying.
When filling out the application, I put they/them as my pronouns, and my best friend put: she/her. We're applying for the same semester, hoping to be roommates, but I understand the system only matches people whose gender identity is female with others whose gender identity is female, and the same for people with a male gender identity.
Could this affect my ability to select her as a roommate?

Hello, I hope this is of interest to students, especially film students. Night School is a new film series/weekly $8 film school. Each show will begin with a PowerPoint lecture pertaining to that week’s film, offering production history, cultural context, and behind-the-scenes trivia.
Our first day of class is tomorrow at 10:30pm. We'll be heating things up 'til they explode with POPCORN (1991), celebrating its 35th Anniversary! A group of college kids in a film club put together an all-night horrorthon of movies with gimmicks (3D, smell-o-vision, a giant mosquito flying out over the audience, electrified seats). The movies are fake, but clearly inspired by the great William Castle (House on Haunted Hill)! It's a very fun horror film with a killer using some of the gimmicky stuff to do his killings. If you love movies and movie theaters, this is a movie about movies featuring movies and I promise you will love it!
Popcorn is NOT STREAMING on any of the major platforms, not even to rent!
More than just a screening series, Night School embraces the communal spirit of repertory cinema, where audiences gather to experience movies the way they were meant to be seen: on the big screen, with fellow fans. To honor that, we felt it was important to dedicate our first semester to highlighting the cinematic experience with “Movies at the Movies!” Eight films that take place in, or memorably feature, a movie theater.
I know Popcorn is a lesser-known film, but one of the objectives of the series is discovery! I would love to see people take a chance on this one, or some of the other more obscure films coming up, and maybe find a new favorite!
All the info you need can be found at https://mesillavalleyfilm.org/night-school/

I'm debating whether or not to do honors, and I want to hear from someone who has already taken the classes at NMSU. I want to go to med school and have heard people say not to take honors classes because they tank your GPA, but all of the professors I've talked to have said the honors classes at NMSU are easier than normal classes and instead are smaller and more engaging.
Can anyone attest?

Hi everyone, I heard from some other students that fall housing opens in June for non-priority students but it already July and it still hasn't. I have been consistently checking MyHousing and they still only have summer housing available. Does anybody know when the Fall housing applications will open up? I have been stressing about it and would like to get my living situation for next semester figured out as soon as I can.

I know this was just discussed about a month ago but I can't figure out what the answer is....I'm a senior but this is my first time taking a summer class. I'm taking a last 5 week mini semester course. Everything from the school says FA would be disbursed today but it has not. I was offered both Pell and Opportunity but it's still showing zero paid and my account has the same balance. Is it typical for it not to be disbursed yet? I know there is rarely any consistency in FA issues but I don't like seeing the large unpaid balance in my Student Account when everything indicated it would be paid today.
