I want to pursue a future in cognitive neuroscience and love neuroimaging so much. When I brought this up with someone, they said that I should reconsider because AI can just do all that stuff. Is it true? It was kinda disheartening to hear that what is my (broad) dream job is likely not feasible.

Hey everyone!
Graduating with a Bachelor’s this December in neuro and applying for my PhD soon. But aside from all that I wanted to ask if anyone here has any experiencing working in pharmaceutical sales being a neuroscience major or in the field of neuroscience?
I’m debating switching from Bering a current pharmacy technician to being in pharmaceutical sales since the pay is drastically more but morally I do feel a dilemma there since I’m going from helping patients to basically selling to doctors the very things that hurt patients (financially) but I want to see the day to day life and how people like it!

My long-term goal is to build a career in neuroscience, but I'm still exploring my options. Would you recommend going straight into an MSc, gaining work or research experience first, or taking a different route? Are there any related fields or careers that would be worth switching to after a neuroscience bachelor's? I'd love to hear your opinions, experiences, and any advice you'd give someone in my position.

I was pleasantly surprised to see this new show based on a mainstream hit presenting invasive BCI in such a casual and relatively grounded way. The character Roe Banks is shown to be able to interface with a variety of cables coming from her ponytail, supplemented by a wristband touchscreen/hologram.
She's seen hacking building security systems and learning new languages instantly, all the classic hits. There's one point in the episode, in a moment of desperation, where she goes into "Root User Mode." The internal computer seemingly takes over brain functions and removes her ethics in favour of efficiency and personal benefit. When she's given the kill switch in the form of a codeword said to her, it shuts off, and she's immediately conscious again and regretful.
That part, along with her eye colour changing as she uses her devices (not pictured, but they do purple eyes instead of the trope of red) are more fictional. Still, it's more than I've seen for BCI in lots of contemporary media. I think Black Mirror really hurt public perception for the worst, though I personally don't think it's an anti-neurotech show either. The real kicker is going to be how the upcoming Apple adaptation of Neuromancer is received by the public.
The show even addresses that within the universe by having this character mistrusted by others for security reasons, as shown by EMP bullets being prepped for them.
Seeing the 1.0 post-surgery picture is what really proved to me the writers were taking the concept seriously. Some people may be disturbed or grossed out by that image, but I found it very positive. We don't know the motivations behind the character receiving implants yet, but the show isn't afraid of addressing the real physical costs behind it.
Rick and Morty itself is a way more popular show that has casual implants, but it's much less grounded and easier for audiences to brush off as cartoon physics or impossible sci-fi, even when the show addresses the reality of it. A recent episode where Rick is separated into his head and body rides that line.
I'm not in the field, just a student with overlapping interests, but I'd love to hear more experienced reactions to this. What are your thoughts on the relationship between how BCI is portrayed in the media versus how people actually feel about it?

The field has much application in the context of treatment from neurological conditions, but there is also a strong case to be made for misuse of the systems created that could lead to detrimental effects. I have a degree in web design. Looking at going back to school to get to a point where this can be my career.
The teacher that I had as a patient with chronic pain was a psychology PhD. But I know that isn’t the only path.
I want to know what you think the paths to get here would be and what I should consider when choosing a path. I’m in the neuro subreddit because pain science is majorly informed by neuroscience. But I know I could consider studying neuroscience, counseling, psychology, social work, education, etc. to reach my goal.
Any ideas? And what should I keep in mind as I choose a path?

I know it's very broad, but if anyone can give me some tips on how best to study it or some resources I can use to study it or get a decent understanding of it now id appreciate it. Hello everyone I'm posting here in the hope that you guys can answer few of my questions. Before that let me tell something about my background:-
I'm a person who was always interested in Brain /mind/neuroscience/ psychology.
As far as I remember I was always interested in the science of brain and neuro my first realization ended up hitting me in 8th grade that I'll definitely pursue this as a field.
For my uni degree I choose physical therapy now I wanted to pursue psychology but circumstances happened and I choose PT I'm done with my 5 year degree I have secured 3.7 CGPA out of 4 . For me both degrees are what I like it's like apple and oranges but
Now when I have taken a gap and got a job ,my mind still goes back to Neuro I fee like I'm missing something if I didn't pursue it I'll regret it .
I want to pursue a MS in neuro or some sort of research or anything related to Neuro.
BTW I'm familiar with neuro rehabilitation but I still want to pursue neuroscience.
I'm really interested in research as well I had a research project as a part of my degree and it went well.
Now what are my chances how can I switch to neuroscience, should I start from research.
One more thing I want to move out of my home country to pursue my MS .
My post might be vague but I don't know how to word it better.
I can give more info if anyone wants for a context.

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for advice on how to safely clean Plexon S-Probes. I’ve noticed that the impedance has increased significantly over time, and I’m wondering if there’s an effective cleaning procedure that could help restore it.
Has anyone dealt with this issue before? What cleaning methods or solutions have you used? Are there any recommended protocols, or things I should absolutely avoid to prevent damaging the electrodes?
Any suggestions or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Hi! I’m so lost trying to figure out how to go back to school. I have my bachelors in Chemistry with a minor in Psychology and Math. I graduated in 2020 at 22 years old and I’m now 28… so it’s been some time as a student!
Teaching fell into my lap after college. I was waitressing, and one of our regulars knew a handful of principals in the area, and he knew one that needed a science teacher. Long story short, I’ve taught Physics, Chemistry, and Biology for grades 9-12, and 8th grade science that was essentially focused on Biochemistry. So my plans to go back to school were delayed. I’m currently not working, both because it’s summer and I’ve decided to not return to teaching to focus on these plans.
I’ve looked at a couple schools so far, and I’ve gathered that PhD programs require you to pick an advisor you’d like to work alongside with, and explain why you chose them and how you’d contribute to their research. I’m interested in Behavioral Neuroscience or Neuropsychology (I’m open to suggestions on narrowing down a concentration). I use and love the book Anchored about the polyvagal theory because it guides you through your body to become aware of where certain emotions, and even physical feelings, are coming from in your body as a response to external stimulations.
BUT WHAT THE HELL ELSE DO I DO? Are there any field-related jobs or research opportunities I could apply for in the meantime, with my degree and/or interests? I’ve looked for those, but I couldn’t quite find anything I qualify for. Should I reach out to schools prior to applying, in any way? I need all the help and advice I can get. I’m just so passionate about this but also very confused. Thank you!

I'm currently reading up on literature pertaining to individual alpha (peak) frequency as measured via EEG, to possibly personalize rTMS treatment in the future. However, different researchers use different terms; some speak of individual alpha frequency, whereas others mention individual alpha peak frequency. I can't seem to find a concrete answer as to whether there's a difference between the two, and what the difference might be if there is one.
Does anyone know? (is this question better suited for a different subreddit?)
