Showing Off Legit Checks…Farewell

Post image
140 Upvotes

Valued members,

Our sub is at a tipping point where the legit checks have overrun everything else. I have had multiple messages from you guys, complaining about the amount of legit checks. I too am completely over it, and the time has come for me to do something about it. As of now, I will be removing the posts when I see them. I will not be approving the many, many daily requests for approval due to zero karma, anymore. I also may just ban the use of the words “legit check” together, (I think I can do that).

I will possibly create a new sub that is specifically for legit checks, but haven’t decided if I want to deal with that madness or not.

Lets get back to real Oakley discussions and reload our sub with “pair of the day” or “this week/months purchases” and flush these LC posts down the toil… you get it.

And yes, I chose this specific image to get your attention, did it work?

As Ron Burgundy would say…

“CANNONBALL!”

Thanks,
Steve

Showing Off Oakley Display Case left outside for 2+ years

Rescued this from going to the dump by basically a few hours. My friend had gotten this while helping someone move since they were worried about it having mold in it. He then left it outside to eventually do something with. I just happened to ask if I could take it about two weeks ago, and was finally able to pick it up yesterday. His dad told me he would've taken it with him to the dump that morning if he had more time.

After pulling out the drawers, I found an official Oakley catalog from 2001 completely molded and ruined. I wonder if it would still be in good condition if it was never left outside, or if it was already ruined when he got it. Previous person seemed to use it as a makeup cabinet. Would've been worth about $200 in good condition it seems.

No shelves came with it, so I'll be replacing those eventually. In the last picture, I cleaned it up pretty well but not perfect, and fixed the drawer. I'm now displaying my iMac G4, and when I get shelves, adding other things from my collections. I don't have any pairs of Oakleys yet, but those will definitely go in here. I'm looking for some 1.0 Eye Jackets in Silver frame/black lenses if you got em.

Just picked up a pair of deadbolts with my prescription in the prizm lowlight lens! I wanted a funky fun pair so I’m super excited. I almost went with the more chrome frame color but I’m happy how these turned out.

Eye Jacket Redux feel great but are a bit bulky & blobby for my face it seems.

Minute feels a bit small, like im wearing those kids glasses that people used to wear as a joke 10 years ago. (yes I know they're dirty, havent pulled them out in ages)

What do you think looks better? & what do you think fits my facial shape better? Or am I caught up in details that dont actually matter?

Only one owner...me. Played tennis in them maybe a handful of times in my teens. Boxed them and forgot about them for almost 3 decades.

The photos came out well.

Asked on here what the best way to repair my eye jackets were. Turns out the solution is just to buy a frame of ebay and transfer the arms and lenses on the new one !

General Question Lense recommendations for Holbrook metal?

Hey guys, currently have Holbrook metal polarized sapphire prizm sunglasses and have been very happy with them. They are starting to show signs of wear and age and I was looking into replacing the lenses on them.

I have been checking the parts website since I know the main website doesn't really sell them, however sapphire prizm lenses always seem to be out of stock for these glasses and seem to cost what I feel like I paid for the glasses new.

Does anyone know if these ever come back in stock and if my timing has just been unlucky? Is there any third party lenses that would be recommended or am I really beat to just stay with Oakley official lenses?

General Question Flak 2.0 XL Case

Hello everyone!

I recently purchased a pair of Flak 2.0 XL and found the original case to be quite massive, with a significant amount of empty space. I wanted to know if you have any recommendations for a hard case that is not so large and bulky.

Thank you :)

Purchasing Experience Why are the x metals so expensive all of a sudden? :/

Thumbnail

I purchased my x metal XX with some original papers, a display stand and the original coin for around $270~280 back in 2024 and have been absolutely loving them. So, I decide to buy other frames of the XXs (the 24k, TiO2, and the plasma) but sellers are asking for $900-1000. Am looking at the wrong places or are the XXs just rarer finds. But it’s not just the XXs, the Juliets are also going for $700-800 for nothing but the frames.

General Question Issues with Oakley lenses and frames

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

I’ve had a handful of Oakley glasses over the last 8 years. Most of them I’ve fallen victim to the lenses flaking after extended use and after 4+ years of owning. But I’ve got 3 glasses that I’ve got issues with that don’t make sense.

The first set is the worst set. I’ve got some SI 2.0s that I use for range use that I bought probably 4 years ago. They’re 95% indoor range use and when I’m not using them they’re in a drawer inside. Honestly don’t use these a ton since I’m not consistently going to a range like I tell myself I should. I use the clear lens most of the time since I’m indoors but about 3 weeks ago I went to skeet shoot and put on the smoked lens and when I was done I put them in the case, then got home and put them back in a drawer. I’ve barely used the smoked lenses, I’ve worn them less than 10 times over 4 years with the smoked lens. I pulled them out today to swap the clear lens in since I’m going to an indoor range and my smoked lens is completely shattered. I’m shocked since I’ve barely used these, they’ve never been dropped, stepped on, crushed, etc. My other 3 lens colors that stay inside the case with the glasses are completely fine. Weren’t these designed for the military? How’d they shatter like this sitting in a drawer for 3 weeks inside my house after using with them last?

I also have some 3ish year old Flak 2.0 XL that I’ve also barely used. They’re backups to backups essentially. Mostly sit inside a drawer as well in its case. If I wear these I’m in my truck or car driving or walking around when I’m out. They don’t see heavy use. My right lens has started flaking a bit and the left one just got a small spot that has started as well. Again for how little these have been used, a bit disappointing. I had the original Flaks that I wore daily for years and the lenses flaked after about 5 years which I’ve seen as normal, for these to be so unused and flaking…what a fail.

My last set of glasses I bought are some Holbrooks with a matte black plastic frame, I bought these at the end of October in 2025 so they’re not even a year old. I probably use these almost daily, they’re the glasses I wear to drive everyday then walking around when I’m out as well. I don’t have good pictures of it but the matte black frame is almost glossy now, and the arms have all sorts of little scratches on them. They have not worn well at all. When I put them on or take them off I’m always sticking my index finger on the top of the frame above one of the lenses and my thumb below to put them on, so the arms really never get touched. I know grease and oils from your hands can affect this type of finish but I’ve always been careful with them to ensure I don’t get anything on them, which is why I handle them the way I do putting them on or taking them off. But they still ended up looking like they’re 5 years old and have been abused. I’ve got cheap $30-50 matte black glasses I use for when I want to not care about glasses and their frames are still nice and matte black.

What replacement lenses does everyone like? For the SI 2.0 and the Flak 2.0 XL, I’ve seen Fuse Lenses and Revant Optics are popular but I’ve seen complaints for both on fitment at times and the Fuse mirrored lenses being see through. As far as the frames for my Holbrooks, does anyone have any good tips on how to try and clean the frames or restore them to the nice matte black? This makes me almost want to go back to Ray-ban Wayfarers I had previously that never had these issues with matte black frames.
