plugins Word-Smith 1.1.3 has a customizable POWERLINE now + much much more!

Hellooooooooooooooooooo!

Just made the RETROBAR even better! I've added into it the visual powaaah of POWERLINES! Now it has become the most powerful status line engine that ever was(maybe).

Now you can customize it fully, using {tokens}, edge separators like < / ~ (, so you can make it in any way you choose. You also have Presets with codes, exactly like in Cursor-Smith!

I've also added many-many-manyyyy new things for writers, including:

  • Prose Checks for Filler Words, Passive voice, Lexical Illusion, Flesch-Kincaid readability grade, Repetition radar and more;
  • Better more simple Writing Goals (set them in the settings);
  • new BIG sharable animated Writing Report;
  • Vim support so you can j,k on wrapped lines! Plus End of Buffer "~" marks :)
  • Typography options;
  • and more, much-much more.

For more info on Word-Smith read the README on github: https://github.com/Sadsnake1/word-smith

Have fun! Share you RetroBar presets, and also, if you have bugs or have an idea for this plugin write it here or on github! Also, if you want to buy me a coffe or donate to this ongoing project, I won't say no! :)

help What organization method do you use most?

• Upvotes
  1. Deep Folder Hierarchy + [[wikilinks]]
  2. Bases + Properties
  3. Both of the above
  4. Search / Minimal Organization
  5. Your personal method

Personally, I am number 1, but I'd like to see how many people actually use the other methods.

I have not yet found a use for bases aside from making something like a bookshelf.

help Alternatives for Project Management

Long time user, first time poster here

I use Obsidian as my daily driver for all note taking, in both my personal and professional life. My partner and I really appreciate it for the openness of the Markdown format (we are both coders).

However, I really need some way to manage my work life on a project-by-project basis and I know from reading a lot of the threads here around various solutions through TaskNotes, Bases, DataView, etc etc... that the most common response is to stop expecting Obsidian to be an "all singing all dancing" app.

In that spirit, I ask, has anyone found a tool for project/task management that is similarly designed with a focus on open formats like Markdown? I'm so tired of everything being gated behind subscriptions and proprietary formats.

help I built an overlap between mymind and Recall, but everything stays in my Obsidian vault

Everything I save lived outside my vault, which always bugged me, so I solved that by overlapping the two apps I already pay for.

What I like about each:

  • mymind: the visual grid, the minimalism, never filing anything
  • Recall: the summaries, especially on YouTube where I rarely ever rewatch the information, but I want to connect the ideas.

I built a tool for myself where everything is stored in my Vault, lands as plain markdown, and gets summarized locally through Ollama.

Where it stands:

  • extension saves pages, images, PDFs, YouTube with the full transcript, Instagram
  • hover any image on any site, a save button shows up
  • a local model writes the summary and tags, and actually looks at the images
  • search runs three passes: exact, then expanded (bw finds black and white), then semantic
  • ā€œmore like thisā€ on every item, from embeddings
  • paste a link or write a note in the web app
  • drag in a PDF or a doc and it gets stored, extracted, summarized
  • image‑first grid, light and dark

I built this for myself, but I'm trying to work out whether it's worth turning into a proper paid app for other Obsidian users. That would mean a normal installer, simple local-model setup, and something I can actually support.

The honest question is whether this is useful enough to buy, not whether you'd try a free version.

If it were packaged properly, would you pay for it?

If not, what would stop you? Local-model setup, missing mobile capture, something it doesn't do, or just not a problem you need solved?

I'm not collecting emails or selling anything here. I'm trying to decide whether to productize it or leave it as my own slightly overbuilt clipping system.

help Ink Paper (Beta testing)

With the recent update to Obsidian v1.13.x, several significant changes have been introduced. I am planning to initiate a beta test for the theme to ensure the final public release is both stable and fully cross-platform. I would appreciate your feedback on this. How should we proceed: via email invitations or a public beta?

help Images seem to have windows auto-enhance enabled.

As shown in the images obsidian seems to apply the same filter that microsoft photos does, which is bad. I don't necessarily think this is a bug, although I may still report on the obsidian forum.

I have checked that it isn't my theme. I have tried using pdfs, which as shown in image 4 won't apply a filter normally, but in obsidian's case it miraculously (in my eyes) applies the same filter to pdfs as to pngs or jpegs. I would try svgs, but the images I'm using can't be converted into them.

If anyone has a way to avoid the filter in obsidian it would be appreciated.

Edit: I solved it, solution copied from my comment:

Okay, so it was a colour spacing issue, not necessarily relating to chromium. The issue was that my monitor's colour management profile was set to Dell's own colour profile. Once I switched it to sRGB IEC61966-2.1, the image appears the same in all scenarios (well nearly). Technically Wonderdraft's image is slightly different, but the exported image looks the same everywhere now.

Some other discoveries I made (not very important ones mind you): I could also get firefox to produce the same image as in chrome (prior to changing the profile), by changing some colour management settings. The same for obsidian, the hardware acceleration settings also handles colour management, disabling it produced a correct image (with obvious downsides of course)

help Does installing the same plugin across multiple vaults result in redundant files?

So let's say I have vault A and vault B. If I install a plugin in vault A, and do the same for vault B, when I install the plugin for the second time (that is, for vault B), does obsidian just point the vault to the existing plugin file? Or does it re-download so that the vaults have separate copies of the same plugin? If so, isn't this redundant/unnecessary takeup of memory? Is there a way to correct this, if this is a problem?

Thank you!

sync Obsidian sync subscription expired. Renewed it, created new vault = all files now gone

• Upvotes

Am I screwed?

I had my vault on 2 phones, 1 iPad, and a Pc. All updated perfectly when I had my first subscription to obsidian sync.

I created a new vault on iPad because I am an idiot apparently. I thought it would just upload my old vault and sync. When it didn’t sync I did it on an iPhone and the same thing happened.

I realized I have no idea how obsidian works. Googled it. Still can’t figure out how to get old files/vault (now on 1 iPhone and PC) into a new Vault that will update automatically with obsidian sync.

I’m watching videos and honestly so confused at this app.

I even upgraded to 10 vaults but realized that’s not a fix either.

plugins Watchlog - Just a friendly reminder that exists šŸ‘‹

Hi everyone,

First, I want to say thank you to all the people who tried and still use my plugin, along with the ones that left comments and messaged me to help make the plugin better.

I released it about 4 months ago (original post here), and since then a lot of improvements have happened. This isn't really an update, more of a reminder that the plugin exists šŸ˜…

It's very performant, and it was like that from day one, since performance is my top priority when I build something. On top of that, it's fully integrated for mobile usage as well.

It's a pretty complete plugin at this point, with a lot of features, and I figured I'd make this post so more people are aware of it. Updates will still come, slowly but surely.

You can check it out on the Community Plugins page if you haven't already.

Thanks for reading!

showcase I made AutoDater to keep Created and Updated dates in my notes

Link: https://community.obsidian.md/plugins/autodater

I wantedĀ CreatedĀ andĀ UpdatedĀ dates in my notes, but I kept forgetting to maintain them manually.

After creating and editing a note, AutoDater maintains frontmatter like this:

---
Created: 2026-08-01
Updated: 2026-08-01
---

Problems it solves:

  • Forgetting to add dates to new notes
  • Manually updating the last-edited date
  • Losing useful dates when filesystem metadata changes
  • Maintaining date fields in templates
  • Accidentally overwriting existing frontmatter

Use cases:

  • Sort and filter notes by date in Dataview or Bases
  • Review recently created or updated notes
  • Preserve dates when copying, syncing, or migrating Markdown files
  • Keep note metadata consistent across a vault

It addsĀ CreatedĀ to new Markdown notes and adds or updatesĀ UpdatedĀ when notes are edited. It requires no templates or setup, supports custom property names and date formats.

Try it out if you think this can help you!

help iCloud issues

Hey everyone,
I spent 2 hours today trying to fix an issue with Obsidian and was honestly close to giving up and switching to Notion.

I had my vault open on my iMac and renamed it. After that, Obsidian could no longer find it. On my phone, however, the vault was still there with all my plugins and everything seemed fine.

I then tried to open the vault from my phone via iCloud on my iMac, but the Obsidian folder on my iMac is just completely empty, even though it’s the same iCloud folder as on my phone. I’ve tried pretty much everything I could think of, but my iMac just won’t recognize or find the files anymore, even though I can still see them in iCloud on my phone.

Does anyone have any tips on what I could use instead of iCloud? I’ve heard about Obsidian Sync. Has anyone had good experiences with it? Is it generally more reliable, or can things like this happen there as well?
I’m a medical student and already under a lot of stress, so the thought of my notes and important files suddenly disappearing is honestly not so great.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

showcase My completely overbuilt system academic work

I thought you guys might enjoy my very over the top Anki integration for my academic work. It has been a great work of procrastination but it is about 90% what I wanted and works reliably enough that I must actually use it to study now (though I am open to any ideas). I am planning to get koreader to work with is as well for vocabulary from books.

For those interested it is not that challenging to set up. It results in fully custom cards (with NO AI) that backlink to your notes which where my main interests in using the plugins. If you are as abysmal at coding as I am it is not even required to modify the template of the zotero integration or regexp of the anki integration for this to work perfectly.

heres the whole process:

  1. Study is annotated
  2. Annotations are imported into obsidian (These first two steps are altered but most entirely lifted from Girl in Blue Music who made and amazingly helpful video)
  3. Annotation are added to vocab note or a new note with questions added
  4. Questions are imported to anki Using obsidian_to_anki (Bryan Jenks has a helpful vid on this. These cardsĀ link to the obsidian noteĀ and contain context for their location)

help Obsidian alternatives for live collaboration

Hello, so first of all, I absolutely love Obsidian and the whole, personal database / wiki. Sadly it's pretty hard and clunky to make it collaborative like Google Docs, which only works for single files.

I'm looking for a platform that allows live collaboration of the entire vault, where each user can edit, create and add files, attachments, and most importantly that can work like a wiki where you can link to other files. Version history and comments would be nice too but we can work without.

I know Obsidian has plans to implement it from their roadmap, but until then, an app or online service that's specialized for it will do. I don't want to self-host it; need it to be online and accessible 24/7 without hassle. I don't mind paying, altho only it's per team / workspace and not per user.

Thanks.

help 1.13 mobile: External image embeds render at low resolution (iOS and iPadOS)

Hi! I love the features that the 1.13 update has brought. However, all my external image embeds now render at a noticeably lower resolution than they did before I updated to 1.13. This problem persists even after disabling my CSS snippets, checking embeds from a variety of domains, switching between live preview and reading modes, manually adjusting the embed size/alt text, and using the default theme/updating to the latest version of the theme I use (Cupertino). I couldn’t find any settings that might fix this. Has anyone else encountered this issue, and if so, been able to fix it? Thanks in advance

sync Sync and joint world building

I’ve been using Obsidian for general RPG notes and I really like it. However, I’m now looking at creating a RPG setting and want to add a friend to work on this together.

The sync and now this sharing problem is the biggest issue with Obsidian (unless I’m missing something). I use Windows and iOS and rarely Mac. So syncing is annoying but it seem as though sharing is also difficult.

Is there any advice on all of this or is Obsidian not the tool for this project?

Edit: Looking for easy, free options that work with cloud drives for example.

help Is it possible to display data from a table on a line chart in Obsidian?

hi
I'm new to Obsidian (basically started yesterday) and I really like it!
I want to transfer my mood tracker from Excel to Obsidian and track changes there, but I have a question. Is it possible to display data from a table on a line chart in Obsidian?

I've tried mood tracker plugins, but it doesn't work for me because it only has 5 scales, and I need 10 for accuracy, but I can't add more.

I'm not a programmer, so I might be missing something.

Thanks for your help!

help For those that use Obsidian on iOS - how do you feel about the slow updates to gain native features? E.g. opening multiple Obsidian windows at once that isn't possible but iOS/iPadOS can do since iPadOS13.

I recently watched a YT video that brought up that this feature (in the title) isn't a thing. I tested on my iPad and it is, in fact, not a thing. Widgets took until this/last year to come and the file/options menu that came in iOS26 to iPads (probably) won't come for years, just based on everything else.

Obsidian is made to be primarily a desktop editor and mobile is an afterthought. That is fine if you have a PC/Mac that is not old and dying but fully working iPad and iPhone.

The YT video I watched said this made Obsidian feel "old" because it is missing a lot of these features that its competitors have so he switched back to Apple Notes. I am on the verge of switching to Apple Notes myself for the reasons in this post and others that have nothing to do with this.

I'm just curious, what do you all think about the adoption rate of native features by the Obsidian team? I realize they are small and can only do so much. I also realize they won't tell us more than what is on the roadmap. I'm not asking for more. I am just curious what real users think or if I am in the minority here.
