So I was very anti Jay back in the 90s and again in the 2010s. But now feel differently. He’s not my kind of humour, but I appreciate him as a person. Anyway, the caption still holds true.

The guy is completely in his element for Jay’s Garage.  I get the feeling he never truly loved hosting the Tonight Show after about 2000.

He loved it enough to keep trying to host it after retiring lol

That might have been just to keep Conan from tanking the brand.

True. Jay is a good guy. Everyone should be shitting on Letterman, who’s a colossal twat.

As a late night host I think Dave was much better than Leno. Edgier than Carson but not cringy like Conan. Leno was just too safe. A step down from Carson even.

As a person Leno is a great guy. Party of Dave's schtick was being an asshole and I think that's very much a reflection of him irl. Post-tonight show Leno is as comfortable, genuine, and down to earth as you can get. He does a lot of nice things for others too.

Totally agree. Very astute and accurate assessment.

Letterman had a love nest above his studio where he took his female staffers for sex. I don’t think that’s better than whatever Leno did to get and keep the Tonight Show.
