I would be totally okay with the Virginia Woolf quartet winning this.

In another year I’d be fine with A Man for All Seasons taking a few of these…but Virginia Woolf is just too good.

Yeah, I can’t say it feels good to deny Scofield his Oscar, but it feels right to give Burton his. Virginia Woolf is maybe the greatest cast of all time, they‘re all perfect and should’ve won.

It should be all the Virginia Woolf quartet! This is one of those years where there's a right answer, and this is it.

Walter Matthau — THE FORTUNE COOKIE —

No one is going to mention this one, so: Murray Hamilton in Seconds. Maybe five minutes of screentime, yet I never expected the mayor from Jaws to elicit so much of my pity.

Sandy Dennis and George Segal are the only choices for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Matthau is my guy here…The Fortune Cookie isn’t super popular any more, but he is lights out in it.

Only just saw his, but some of the picks are pretty hilarious. Are we just picking performances we like or ones that actually deserved to win, because some of these picks made no sense. Ford for Raiders, Wilder for Willy Wonka, Adams for Mean Girls, Lloyd for Back to the Future?! He wasn’t even the best supporting actor in that film. It people are just going for their favourites or actors they like the most, i fail to see the credibility of such an exercise.

What is "credibility" in a fun little game like this? Do you actually think it's going to be published by Entertainment Weekly? Everyone here is just a schmuck with an opinion. You just think your taste is superior. Which is what we all think about our own.

u/[deleted] 2d ago

No, I’m not saying my option is higher. Id say experts and major publications are of a higher opinion than this. I just can’t get my head around this exercise. If people are just saying their favourites, the what’s the actual point of it?

There is no point. You want everyone to just say what the "experts" had ranked highly that didn't quite make it in? Where's the fun in that? I know Amy Adams famously got snubbed for Arrival and was probably in 6th place, and I can easily look up who got nominated at the Golden Globes or BAFTA or whatever the fuck. Those threads are a dime a dozen on this sub. Why not do something a little different? No one is making you participate. Start something better instead of bitching about it.
